Mario & Luigi

Anuboos are enemies found in Teehee Valley in Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga and its remake Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga + Bowser's Minions. They replace Gritty Goombas after Princess Peach is sent to Little Fungitown, at which point the Gritty Goombas retreat to their subterranean lair.

Physical description[]

Anuboos appear as a black shadowy jackal that wears an Egyptian headdress, similar to how their basis, Anubis, wears one in his profile. Their eyes are reddish-pink, giving the creatures a macabre appearance.

Profile[]

Anuboos can be found at Teehee Valley. In the field, they attack by firing a laser before teleporting to another spot, telegraphed by their physical form blinking in and out of existence. Anuboos cannot be hit while their bodies blink.

Combat[]

Anuboos take shape of Mario or Luigi and will attack either of their victim with a laser beam. Their laser beam can be dodged by jumping. Mario and Luigi's hand techniques can heal them, but their abilities are no protection versus other types of attacks. When killed, Anuboos may drop Ultra Mushrooms or the Anuboo Jeans.

Names in other languages[]

The Anuboo is called "Anubin" in Japanese and Spanish (Spanish Genitive Anubinus). This translates to the Egyptian jackal god's name, Anubis, in Japanese. They are called Lasercane (Genitive Lasercánius), which means "Laser Dog", in Italian. Their German name, Dunkelmann, translates to "Dark Man", referencing their shadowy appearance. Their Chinese name, Wánglíng Zhī Guài, means "Monster of the Dead Spirit", implying that the creatures are undead.

Trivia[]

  • Anuboo's name is a portmanteau of "Anubis," a mythical, Egyptian jackal god and "Boo".
