Daichi Isuzu (五十鈴 大智, Isuzu Daichi) is a young man who participated in the Desire Grand Prix as Kamen Rider Nadge-Sparrow (仮面ライダーナッジスパロウ, Kamen Raidā Najji Suparou). He later transformed himself into the Marrella Jyamato (マーレラジャマト, Mārera Jamato), also known as the Sanyochu Jyamato (三葉虫ジャマト, Sanyōchū Jamato, lit. "Trilobite Jyamato").

History

Background

Daichi Isuzu is a man who has an interest on knowledge and human thinking, especially the latter. To learn these, he spent time to study all kinds of books to obtain all types of knowledge and now sets his interest on omniscience. He was once invited to Desire Grand Prix to a game where he met Ace Ukiyo and successfully proceeded to the finals but was eliminated in the final round while Ace became the Deza Shin in that game.

Divergence Arc

Introduced as the "Quiz King", Daichi along with Sae Ganaha were veteran players who were chosen to return as Kamen Riders for the Desire Grand Prix. His wish is to obtain the memories of humanity in order to acquire omniscience. Following the events of the Jyamar Ball round, he would be eliminated via voting for being suspected as the Dezastar, as a result of his attempts to cast doubt onto Keiwa Sakurai. After his elimination, he would be later be recruited by Beroba to be an advisor to the Jyamato and regains his ID Core through Beroba's authority. Under his suggestion, Beroba ordered Archimedel not to deploy the Jyamato into the game, forcing Chirami to join the game himself as the enemy, giving opportunity for Beroba to steal the Vision Driver. Later, when the DGP riders went to Jyamar Garden to take back Vision Driver, Daichi appears in front of them as the enemy.

Lamentation Arc

With Beroba's reform of Desire Grand Prix into Jyamato Grand Prix, Daichi did not join the game due to his status as a pure human, while showing his interest in the evolved Knight Jyamato, who has the complete memories of its host and its own personality. Despite Beroba's suggestion for him to enter the game by using Jyamato Buckle, Daichi still did not use the buckle for once throughout the game, while enjoying to watch the game from the audience side and witness the evolution of Dunkleosteus Jyamato, the truth of Goddess of Genesis and Neon Kurama.

Yearning Arc

After Michinaga Azuma recreates the world, Daichi's memories in both DGP and JGP were erased, while returning to his life as a college student. When Suel starts the Desire Royale, Daichi was given his Driver and ID Core again, while now fighting to avenge himself for his loss in DGP due to Keiwa Sakurai, holding a grudge for being played as a fool. Daichi ended up tricking Sara Sakurai, Keiwa's older sister who recently joined the Desire Royale as Kamen Rider Hakubi into battling Kamen Rider Buffa. Unfortunately for him however, Michinaga decides to battle him instead to eliminate him from the game forcing Daichi to fight back, in which his attacks as Nadge-Sparrow didn't even hurt Buffa at all. Buffa ended up cracking his ID core, forcing Daichi to retire all while exclaiming that this isn't the last time he'll ever see of him. However, before Buffa is able to completely crush Nadge-Sparrow's ID Core, the Dunkleotus Jyamato, now taking the form of Archimedel, retrieved the core before fleeing away. Beroba later obtained Nadge-Sparrow's ID core while saying that she has plans for him.

Genesis Arc

Daichi?

Daichi creating miniature Jyamato.

After the Grand End was successfully postponed by GeatsIX's reality alteration ability, Daichi presumably recovered his memories as a Kamen Rider. However, his experience with the Desire Grand Prix has had a drastic impact on his sanity. Using Archimedel's research notes, Daichi cultivates a new breed of improved, parasitic, miniature Pawn Jyamato. From his lair, before his specimens, Daichi manically declares his intention to become the new Jyamashin and the initiation of the "Parasite Game".

Beroba & Kekera find Daichi in his lair, musing to himself about his evolution, and offer him his broken Nadge-Sparrow Rider Core ID, in an attempt to recruit him to their cause, but Daichi utterly dismisses the notion. Instead, Daichi expresses his reverence over the Jyamato and how he endeavors to use the Jyamato in his ambition to acquire absolute knowledge by taking advantage of their ability to acquire the memories of the humans they consume. Then, in gruesome display, Daichi proceeds to consume a Baby Jyamato in front of the two Supporters, whom express equal shock and amusement in the act, before releasing more of his parasitic Pawn Jyamato from their captivity.

After their encounter, Daichi enacts the next phase of his scheme and successfully lures Keiwa's sister, Sara and coyly explains the characteristics of this deadly, new breed of Jyamato and their stages of infection, the curable Stage 1 and the irreversible Stage 2, before exposing her to a swarm that encases her in a cocoon for Stage 2 Jyamatization.

Ace and Keiwa track Daichi and confront him about Sara's whereabouts. Daichi attempts to deflect his involvement in her disappearance but is exposed by Ace's keen intuition. A battle ensues, with Daichi assuming a new Marrella Jyamato form but, despite his impressive abilities, is defeated by GeatsIX. Yet, Daichi delights in his results of his machinations, as his scheme achieved the goal of eliminating Sara.

After Sara was trapped in the "Tree of Knowledge" in the Jyamato Garden, Daichi ate a tomato-like fruit growing from the tree, allowing him to gain her memories.

When Daichi was gathering a group of followers, Keiwa also disguised to blend in the meeting. He later confronted Daichi and they both got into a fight as Keiwa transformed into his new Bujin Sword form. Marella Jyamato is defeated by Keiwa and soon came back to his human form. When Tycoon was about to execute Daichi, Geats appeared and stopped the fight, stating that Tycoon has already won the fight and then Tycoon left eventually. After the fight, Daichi was hospitalized with many injuries. However, he was later confronted by Michinaga, who was on the mission to find the "Tree of Knowledge" in order to free the innocent people, but Daichi stated that the memories and knowledge that he got from the victims have already gone, possibly because of Keiwa's wish.

Eventually, he sought out his tree again, feeling it might hold the key to his own salvation, and finds Beroba and Kekera with who appeared to be Tsumuri attempting to take the tree and use it for their own ends. He gets into a fight but either doesn't or is unable to transform to fight back. Just as he is about to be finished, Michinaga and Neon intervene and get him to safety. He asks why they bothered saving him and they both state that he is the only one who can bring Keiwa's sister back. He says that in order to do so he needs access to his tree, which Beroba stole the essence of and until that returns, there's nothing he can do. Michinaga leaves, stating he'll do what's needed to get Sara back for Keiwa's sake. He points out that he's running to his death, but Neon says that he chose to do so still.

After Michinaga beats Beroba, he, Michi, Neon, and Keiwa all witness the Tree of Knowledge shed Sara out from its form as she's revived.

The next day, the Riders, bar Keiwa and Ace, have turned into inanimate objects, due to Kekera wishing for Tycoon to be the only Rider. This leaves Daichi unaffected though, as he is part Jyamato and no longer a Rider. He assists by protecting Sara and holding off Premium Kekera on his own, until he is knocked out by the latter and is later trapped alongside Keiwa. The two chat about happiness, with Daichi believing he doesn't deserve it due to selling his soul to the Jyamato. Keiwa sympathizes, believing that everyone can have a fresh start, as long as they have their humanity. Daichi also reveals that by protecting Sara, he protected her true happiness, claiming that it is found "in a boring life", such as one that she and Keiwa leads. The two face off Kekera, who is holding three civilians hostage, threatening them with Jyamato. However, these Jyamato were raised by Daichi, who has control over them and would use them to free the civilians.

During the Final Round, hundreds of civilians would be transformed into the End Riders, with Game Masters forcefully exploding them if they either lose or don't participate. The Kamen Riders would spread out to stop this game, including Daichi, who assists Win Hareruya in defeating a Game Master by summoning Jyamato to help defeat them. An announcement is made that Ace is dead, and the Desire Grand Prix starts gaining the upper hand. However, the defeat of Suel and Ace's restart of the world causes the DGP to fall, erasing all the Game Masters, and removing the End Riders' Drivers.

After the world restarted, this time with the memories of Ace Ukiyo being erased from the general population, Daichi is seen in a garden with other Jyamato, remarking that one in particular is starting to grow up. His wish is revealed to wanting "humans and Jyamato to co-exist".

Personality

Daichi has a great pride and greed towards knowledge. For him, knowledge is everything and he states that he is willing to do everything to have every finite of the world's knowledge, even utilizing underhanded tactics such as joining the Jyamatos. He is cunning and calculative, either as a DGP player or an ally for Jyamato alliance, being able to make an accurate observation of someone just based on some clues, such as rightly guessing the wishes of other DGP players.

In contrast to his excessive intelligence, he has a lack of morality, he mainly relies on logical reasonings and explanations to get alliance with others. This can be his downfall, as his schemings and actions can get other people fed up with him, making enemies easily and by result, his plan doesn't go the way he expects. While he was DGP player, he calculates the better way to find a Dezastar by backstabbing Keiwa to frame him as one and have other players turn against him. When his schemes are exposed by Ace, the others notice that his actions are similar to Dezastar's of sabotaging them, causing him to be the first to retire in the game by being voted out. He also fails to take into account that Michinaga Azuma would be pissed at his treachery when he tries to set up Neon Kurama and Sara Sakurai's elimination in Desire Royale after they reluctantly relying on his help to gather ID Cores, getting him attacked and eliminated instead of the girls.

As a member of Jyamato alliance, he even shows that he can even outsmart Chirami. Because of his plan, Beroba was able to rob the Vision Driver from the latter. His lack of morality is further shown by him enjoying the Jyamatos terrorizing the citizens along with Beroba and Archimedel. Later he stooped to even lower means by succeeding Archimedel as the next Gardener, having no qualms of mass murdering people with the Parasite Jyamato, and even luring more people to be infected, to become one with humanity's knowledge. He describes himself as a wild card who will use anything he can to gain advantage, be it allies or enemies. When he's outmatched, he tries to beg for Kekera's help, only to be rejected because he favors Keiwa, and shortly after, he begs for his life to be spared by Keiwa after he has a great heel turn, using logical reasoning that both are manipulated by Kekera. His lack of morality continues to be his downfall, because Keiwa is too fed up with him to accept his reasoning.

He views his Tree of Knowledge as his pride, when the tree got reverted back, it breaks him, making him more subdued, and he would try to defend it against those who will steal it away from him, such as Beroba. He would even agree working with his enemies if it can get his Tree of Knowledge back. The reason he's more subdued is also because, according to Ace Ukiyo, Daichi feels the joy of all the people's memories he absorbed, making him aware of just what he's deprived them of, and thus he can never be happy proceeding through his goal of absorbing all humanity's knowledge. Afterwards, he shifts his focus to observe happiness that lies in a simple, ordinary life from those memories, particularly Sara's, albeit he deemed it as a boring thing, much to Keiwa's dismay, which also leads him to command several Jyamatos to free Kekera's hostages, and later creating the Himawari Jyamato to assist the Riders. He ends up treating his Jyamato better than his start as the Gardener, seeking their co-existence with humans.

Abilities

  • Genius-Level Intellect: Daichi's analytical skills are strong, easily devising strategies and plans in battle and urgent situations, which he has no trouble putting in motion. He was also first to detect the non-delinquent Jyamato during the first round of the 4th Desire Grand Prix. His intellect is even capable of manipulating the progress of the DGP. Eventually, he was eventually hired as an advisor for the Jyamato Grand Prix, being the brains behind strategizing each of the games as it progresses. He later show his intellect can be high enough to mature a new improved Jyamato breed by himself using Archimedel's leftover research.
  • Jyamato Physiology:: After the Grand End, Daichi has mutated himself to become a Jyamato. Different from Michinaga, Daichi's method to become a Jyamato has make him mutated without any pain, though it risks parts of his sanity until he absorbs the memories of his victims. Due to this reason, Daichi's body durability and recovery speed has increased drastically, which makes him able to withstand the mulitple attacks and the Bujin Sword Strike of Tycoon. Also, Daichi can control the Pawn Jyamatos that he cultivated to do his bidding through mind communication such as releasing someone from their shackles.
  • Skilled Combatant: As a rider, Daichi is shown to have a certain degree of combat skills. Despite his preference to fight using wisdom, it is shown that Daichi can fight against the Rook Jyamato and Jyamato Riders on par with them in direct combat. After Daichi becomes a Jyamato, it is shown that Daichi can even fight against Premium Kekera on par at a certain degree.

However, after Buffa became Jyama Shin, his cooperation with Jyamato ends, with all his related memories erased until his participation in Desire Royale. After his memories from the Desire Royale returned, Daichi now cultivates Jyamato, succeeding Archimedel.
  • Archimedel: Though he and Archimedel had barely interacted during the course of their alliance under Beroba, Daichi had inadvertently served as Archimedel's successor as the new Jyamato cultivator. He also has a goal to provide the Jyamatos a world where they can be happy. without the expense of humans, unlike Archimedel who wants to replace humanity with Jyamatos.
  • Keiwa Sakurai/Kamen Rider Tycoon: Daichi "suspected" Keiwa as the Dezastar, and seeded doubt into the other players' minds to make them think Keiwa was the Dezastar. Despite that, Daichi hold a massive grudge towards Keiwa because he was eliminated after Ace showing the truth of Bishop Jyamato. This grudge also continues in Desire Royale as he also doesn't mind hurting his sister as a form of revenge, and he later ends up murdering Sara by infecting her with phase 2 Parasite Jyamato. Keiwa ends up holding a massive grudge as well, mercilessly beating him down with his Bujin Sword upgrade, almost killing him if not for Ace's interference. Afterwards, Daichi starts to observe the joy of simple lives due to the memories he absorbed, of which later he ends up protecting Sara from Kekera to understand her and Keiwa's life better, and Keiwa, applying Ace's lecture, thanks him for protecting her regardless his reasons, and the two later allies themselves against Kekera.

Meme

Daichi's Freaking Huge Flask

Daichi was the subject of a meme called "Freaking Huge Flask" (クソデカフラスコ, Kuso-Deka Furasuko). In episode 40, Daichi infects Sara by releasing Pawn Jyamato of improved breed in her, eventually causing her death. Daichi does this by getting a gigantic flask seemingly out of his bag, which contrasts with the seriousness and dark theme of the scene.[5][6][7]

This meme was also paralleled by the then upcoming Kamen Rider Gotchard, in which the main character is in a school called Furasu High School (富良洲高校, Furasu Kō), of which the name comes from the Japanese loanword for "flask" (フラスコ, Furasuko).[8]

Notes

  • Nadge-Sparrow's helmet is a retooled version of the avian helmet used by Kamen Riders Ginpen and Keilow, removing the feather-like crests from above the circular eyes.
  • Despite Nadge-Sparrow appearing in the Lamentation Arc's opening, Daichi does not transform in the arc.
  • The Marrella Jyamato's lower body is reused from the Knight Jyamato.
  • The color scheme of Marrella Jyamato is an homage to Zanbronzo from Kamen Rider.[4]
  • Daichi's Jyamato form was initially based on the Anomalocaris in Takayuki's first edition, but was changed to Marrella later to not to compete with another Anomalocaris monster by Katsuya Terada.[4]
