Gladys Sharp is the secondary antagonist of Over the Hedge, the other being Vincent the Bear. She is the former president of the Home Owners Association, Dwayne LaFontant's boss and love interest, Tiger's former owner, and the second arch-nemesis of RJ and his gang.
She was voiced by Allison Janney.
What Makes Her a Hate Sink?[]
- She has an obsessive hatred for wild animals.
- While she does care for her pet cat, Tiger, this is just about the only redeeming quality that she has. Additionally, she spoiled her cat into being like herself. Luckily, Tiger decides that he will change his ways after meeting Stella.
- In order to get rid of the wild animals, she hires the Verminator, and agrees to have an illegal device installed on her lawn that kills wild animals.
- It is implied that she thinks that she is above the law.
- While it would be understandable that she would be upset that the wild animals decided to break into her house, she insists the Verminator deal with them as inhumanely as possible. Additionally, this doesn’t count as a redeeming quality, since she is likely responsible for the Wild Animals’ lives being at a problematic state due to her ordering other humans to cutting down and destroying half of the forest and replacing half of the forest with a Hedge, giving them and their home limited food source.
- When the police discover that she had installed the Depleter Turbo on her lawn, she attempts to blame everything on the Verminator, even though she agreed to have it installed on her lawn and had gotten it in writing. She also decides to resist arrest by attacking the police officers.
