~ Adrian revealing being the true culprit of his crimes towards Cecilia. |
Adrian Griffin, better know as The Invisible Man, is the titular main antagonist of the 2020 horror movie The Invisible Man, who is a very skilled person of brains coming up with inventions that gave him a supply of millions worth of dollars.
Despite Adrian's brilliance, that doesn't negate him from having a huge severity of that of a narcissistic sociopath, where he goes on gaslighting his ex-girlfriend Cecilia and stalks her in a way of physical and mental abuse, murders those around her, sets her up for crimes she did not commit, and he does all of this with a suit he created that makes him turn invisible.
He was portrayed by Oliver Jackson-Cohen.
What Makes Him a Hate Sink?
- Before the events of the movie, he was a horribly abusive boyfriend to Cecilia until she finally escaped his home. He'd control how she looked, what she wore, ate, said, and even thought. If he didn't like what he assumed she was thinking, he'd hit her.
- Worse still, it's revealed that he deliberately sabotaged her birth control to get her pregnant, effectively making him a rapist. It's also heavily implied that this wasn't just a one-time thing, judging from her "amongst other things" line while recapping her abuse at the beginning of the movie is any indication.
- He spends the movie's entire first half gaslighting Cecilia, using his faked suicide and invisibility suit to drive her loved ones away from her. Said gaslighting includes sending her sister Emily an e-mail wishing that she died instead of Adrian, and hitting the teenaged Syndey across the head just to scare her and her father James.
- He murders Emily by slitting her throat with a knife while she and Cecilia are at a public restaurant, framing the latter for it so she's then sent to a mental hospital.
- When Cecilia breaks out of the hospital, Adrian viciously beats and maims several cops in her cell and the following hallway. He even shows clear sadism while killing at least one of them, jokingly saying "BANG!" and then chuckling while pretending to let him live at first before shooting him in the back with his own gun.
- He threatens to go after and kill Sydney just to get revenge-by-proxy on Cecilia, during which he deliberately sends his own brother Tom to die in his place by giving him the invisibility suit while he pretends to be kidnapped. Of course, he eventually earns his comeuppance when Cecilia wore the spare, invisible suit, slitting his throat and earns his deserved death afterwards.
