Oliver is a one-shot character from the Theodore Tugboat episode, "Theodore and the Boat Bully". He was brought to the Big Harbour to move Owan the Oil Rig out to the ocean. The Harbour Master tells a story about this character when he takes out a collection of wooden figures he made of his shipmates for old time's sake, one of them being a bully who constantly threw his hat overboard.
What Makes Him a Hate Sink?[]
- The very mention of his arrival is enough to tame Owan, who is normally loud and boisterous. George also recalls that he met this guy out at sea once, and judging by George's experience, this guy is nothing but trouble.
- When he is first introduced, the first thing he does is bump Theodore and take his job of towing Shelburne the sea barge away from him for everybody else in the whole harbour to see.
- He bumps Theodore a second time even harder, and only backs off when George stands up for his friend.
- He chases Theodore around the Harbour in an attempt to bump him a third time until the smaller tug is forced to hide in fear and wait until dark to sneak back to his dock.
- He has no sympathetic backstory or moment of redemption, and is sent home in disgrace by the Dispatcher who hears about his actions from Theodore.
- The sound of his horn is a sure sign that someone is in for a heap of trouble.
- He is one of the few malicious characters in the entire show, being a realistic portrayal of a bully for a show aimed at preschoolers.
- He is primarily designed to show that no matter how hard you try to be kind, some people are just straight-up jerks period.
