Nordle, this scone is too dangerous. We've got to destroy it.

Gretel Grant-Gomez

"Romancing the Scone" is the second segment of the fourteenth episode of the first season of Hamster & Gretel, and the twenty-seventh episode overall. It is paired with "Hamnesia" and premiered on Disney Channel on February 4, 2023.[1][2]

When Gretel and Nordle are being paired up to work on their book reports, a scone with evil energy ends up in Nordle's backpack, causing a robot to chase them. Meanwhile, Kevin needs to take Hamster to the veterinarian.

Plot

Gretel and Nordle are assigned to work together on a book report, much to their mutual dismay. While arguing about the characters of Larry the Magic Boy and the Grapefruit which is Also Magic, the aliens inadvertently give powers to a scone, which is then dropped into Nordle's backpack by accident. This leads to the two children being followed around by a robot that thinks they have evil powers. Meanwhile, Carolina asks Kevin to take Hamster to the vet, which proves to be difficult due to Hamster's strong fear of the vet. Kevin spends the episode helping Hamster overcome his fear.

Seeking refuge at Nordle's house, the two discover the scone in Nordle's backpack and analyze it with Nordle's radio spectograph, after which they find that it has powers. Gretel is then introduced to Nordle's father, Professor Exclamation, who has the robot, revealed to be named Tobor, serve Gretel in the kitchen, allowing him to attempt to persuade Nordle to consume the scone and gain evil powers. Gretel uses Tobor's hospitality to her advantage by requesting oat milk, allowing her to rush to find Nordle. She manages to convince Nordle not to eat the scone after declaring her friendship to him, leading to Nordle destroying the scone, ruining Professor Exclamation's plans.

Memorable quotes

Gretel: Larry the Magic Boy entered the room. Is this an ordinary room?
Hamster: It's not an ordinary room, it's a trap! ...Uh, I've read this one already.
Hamster: Humans are so unperceptive. This is my calm face. (waves his hand over his face) This is my terrified face. (waves his hand in front of his face again) Calm. (and again) Terrified! (and again) Calm. (and again) Terrified!
Gretel: Wow, nice house. What do your parents do for a living?
Nordle: My father is a used tire salesman.
Gretel: Must be some pretty nice used tires. Does your mom work?
Nordle: Mother has been gone for a while.
Gretel: Oh, Nordle. I'm sorry.
Nordle: Oh, don't feel bad. She's just down the street...
Gretel: (sigh of relief) What a relief!
Nordle: ...at the cemetery...
Gretel: Oh, Nordle.
Nordle: ...where she works as a groundskeeper. (beat) That's it. There's no more misdirecting clarifications.
Gretel: Is this regular milk? I don't like that.
Tobor: This is the only cereal-dampening liquid we have.
Gretel: Yeah, I can only have oat milk. And Professor Ex said to give me whatever I want. You wouldn't want to go against a direct order, would you?
Tobor: Uh... I will go to the mini mart. Is there anything else that you need? I don't want to do that thing where I come back with the milk and it's like, "Tobor, we're out of laundry detergent." (beat) No? Okay then. I'll just get my keys.
Vet: Okay, let's take a look at the little fella. He's fine.
Hamster: Hm. That wasn't so bad.
Vet: That'll be $200.
After Nordle destroys the scone.
Nordle: I may be weird, but I'm not evil!
Professor Exclamation: Nordle, you made a terrible decision! I renounce you, I disown you! I forbid your name ever to be uttered in our house again! So, pick you up at five after soccer?
Nordle: Okay. Thanks, Dad!
Gretel: Well, I think you made a great decision. What made you change your mind?
Nordle: I decided that I'd rather be like Larry the Magic Boy, who has friends, than Immoralis, who just has power.
Gretel: Well, that was a good choice because Immoralis gets destroyed at the end of the series!
(record needle scratch)
Nordle: NO!!! I haven't... ugh! ...read it yet!
