The Chimera (ã‚マイラ, Kimaira? or ã‚メラ, Kimera?), also known as the Gidrah, Harpy, or Khimaira, is a recurring creature in the Final Fantasy games, debuting in the original Final Fantasy. It is usually depicted as a monster made up of a lion, dragon, goat and snake. Most varieties of Chimera attack with Fire-based attack, though in later entries they are prone to using a variety of different elements, each emanating from a different head.

The Chimera, also known as CHIMERA, appears as an enemy encountered in the Chaos Shrine, Flying Fortress, and Mirage Tower. It can use Blaze, a powerful fire-elemental attack, to damage the entire party.
Final Fantasy II[]
The Chimera appears as a boss in Deist Cavern, guarding the spring where the player must deposit the Wyvern Egg. It later appears as a regular enemy in the Mysidian Tower, Fynn, and the Coliseum and its surrounding area.

The Chimera appears as an enemy encountered in the skies of the surface world near Doga's Manor.

It is a dangerous enemy when first encountered, with several powerful abilities such as Aqua Breath, Snowstorm, Fireball, and Cyclonic. It can much later appear in the Dragon's Den in the Advance and Matrix Software releases, though it is of little threat by this point.

Final Fantasy IX[]
The Chimera appears as a demon-type enemy encountered in Memoria. It is one of the strongest enemies and can attack with Virus Crunch, which inflicts a party member with Virus.
Final Fantasy X[]
The Chimera appears a type of fiend born from the conglomeration of several fiends into a single composite entity. It has the heads of a bull, an eagle, a wolf, and a snake. It first be encountered in Macalania Woods. A stronger version is later summoned by the Guado Guardians during the attack on Home.
Final Fantasy XI[]
The Khimaira appears as a family of powerful arcana-type enemies comprised entirely of notorious monsters. The common Khimaira is normally encountered in the Caedarva Mire, but can also be found in Nyzul Isle and the Arrapago Remnants.
Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII[]
The Chimera appears as an enemy on the final day in Luxerion Cathedral, and based on its Final Fantasy XIV design. It is encountered as a mini-boss and later as a regular encounter.
Final Fantasy XIV[]
Chimera refers to both a classification of artificially created creatures that combine aspects several different creatures, as well as a specific family of creatures within that classification. The chimera family are creations of the Allagan Empire, and while many can be found within Allagan installations they have for the most part become wild. Despite this, chimeras are still considered a dangerous invasive species wherever they may appear in the wild.
The common Chimera first appeared as a boss in Patch 1.21, serving as the final boss of Cutter's Cry. The Chimera came to Cutter's Pass thirty years prior and slaughtered any traveling merchants entering its feeding grounds. The merchants hired the Darklight Raiders to kill the Chimera, only for the monster to nearly decimate the mercenaries with everyone believing it was killed off before it eventually resurfaced. In Patch 1.23, another Chimera could be found in the skirmish zone of Turtleback Island, fought with several other enemies in a boss-rush fashion. The Chimera reprises its role as the final boss of Cutter's Cry in A Realm Reborn.

The Chimera appears as an obtainable SR monster. It is a Light-elemental monster whose type is Burst, class is Enchanted and its specialty is Tech. Its hero tech is Shining Blast which fires small seeker shots. Its leader bonus is Aurora which increases Light damage dealt by 50%. Its auto-effect is SOS Attack +30% which boosts Attack by 30% when below 30% HP.
Final Fantasy XVI[]
The Griffin appears as a mini-boss exclusive to the higher-difficulty Final Fantasy Mode, encountered in the Greatwood stage.
Final Fantasy Tactics[]
The Chimera does not appear on-screen but is mentioned in the errand "Hilltop Estate". In a follow-up errand, "Pitiable Monster", it is discovered the chimera was the pet of a girl called Diara Luca.
Final Fantasy Mystic Quest[]
The Gidrah appears as a boss encountered in the Giant Tree in Alive Forest and rules over the monsters infecting the tree. After Benjamin and Kaeli defeat it, the tree carries them across the forest, allowing them to proceed to Windia.
Final Fantasy Adventure[]
The Chimera appears is a boss found within Glaive Castle, guarding the Fuji's room. It attacks by shooting fireballs.

The Chimera appears as an enemy found on the sixteenth floor of the Tower, and a potential transformation for monster units.
