Shadow(シャドウ, Shadou?) is a recurring enemy in the Final Fantasy series ever since its debut on the first game in the series. It appears very differently in different forms, though it is commonly an undead enemy, and in many cases, a skeleton.
Appearances[]
Final Fantasy[]
Shadow is a skeleton enemy fought outside Melmond and in the Marsh Cave. Its attacks may cause Darkness. Magic spells such as Dia and Fire can exploit its weakness easily without a risk of Darkness preventing attacks.
Final Fantasy II[]
Shadow is a skeleton enemy fought in the Snow Cave, Kashuan Keep, Dreadnought, Deist, Deist Cavern or Tropical Island. Similarly, its attacks can inflict Darkness.
Final Fantasy III[]
Shadow is a skeleton enemy fought in Sealed Cave and Mythril Mines. Though its attacks do not inflict the status, it can cast Blind on enemies to inflict the Blind status. By exploiting its undead status, players can use Fire, Holy, Cure and similar abilities and items to defeat them.
Final Fantasy IV: The After Years[]
Shadow is a skeleton enemy fought in the Subterrane. Players can easily exploit its Fire and Holy elemental weaknesses to defeat them, as they are a minor threat.
Final Fantasy V[]
Shadow is fought in the forests around Fork Tower and in Ghido's Cave in the Second World, and in the beach north of sunken Walse Tower in the merged world. It has several Blue Magic spells, meaning the player can use it to learn Blue Magic, but it will only use them when given an Ether.
