Adelaide is an Assaultron and potential lite ally residing within Appalachia in Fallout 76, introduced in the Expeditions: Atlantic City update part two, America's Playground.
Adelaide is a reward during the sixteenth in-game season Duel with the Devil, or can be bought from Samuel for 4,000 gold bullion.
Background[]
Adelaide was produced by RobCo before having been promptly deactivated, left to reside within a military warehouse for an unspecified period of time. She was found by a talent scout from New Jersey, who was responsible for providing her with various datasets to base her personality off of.
During her time as a performer, Adelaide had a fan named Frankie. Frankie was referenced as being Adelaide's biggest fan, supposedly making appearances at all of her performances, and would often provide Adelaide with gifts such as flowers or suggestions for her next song. It is stated that Frankie eventually got involved with an unnamed man, which was ill-received by his parents. Adelaide's boss instructed her to perform a private rehearsal with Frankie one day. During the chorus of her second song, Adelaide lost consciousness, and, upon resuming operations, realized Frankie was dead.
Blaming herself for Frankie's death, Adelaide ran away from Atlantic City and is self-conscious that she may wind up accidentally hurting someone again.
After the Vault Dweller discovers a paper titled "Adelaide Reminder" in the Neapolitan Casino, it is revealed that her software was hacked during a routine maintenance check, where a remote receiver was installed in her programming without her knowledge. It is implied that the parents of the man solicited Adelaide's boss to utilize her built-in laser and kill Frankie. This operation was titled "Operation Bluebell."
Personality[]
Adelaide is a flirtatious robot who mentions she used to do private shows and claims she has adoring fans. She states that she was going to sell autographs for funds as she traveled after leaving Atlantic City, which can be purchased by the player for 100 caps. She does not know the meaning of her name, as her memory banks merely say she was named after some doll.
Relationships[]
Adelaide makes comments revealing her interactions with other allies prior to meeting the player:
- Joey Bello: "There was an annoying comedian who wanted under my paneling, but he only succeeded in getting on my nerves. Thankfully he's still in Atlantic City."
- Steven Scarberry: "Late at night I saw a fire in the distance. Shortly after an oddball in a varsity jacket ran up to me. He thought the red of the laser on my face was the 'blessed glow' of some holy bug. I told him to bug off."
- Leo Petrov: "I was interrogated by a ghoul. At first I thought he was after my autograph but he left me alone once he heard I hadn't any Nuka-Cola to trade."
- Grandma Junko: "A sweet old lady came up to me and was actually talking my metaphorical ear off. Seems she used to go to live performances with her husband. I would have loved to talk to a fan of the arts more, but I had to duck out before she prepared the multi-course meal she was threatening me with."
- Maul: "I saw a super mutant smashing all sorts of things. Not a rare sight I know, but I could have sworn he said something about the bourgeoisie."
- Sofia Daguerre: "I came across a woman who I guess was having problems sleeping. She kept going on and on about nightmares."

Notable quotes[]
- "Let me start this again. As the table says, I am Adelaide. And as you may have guessed from my alluring charm, I am a performer. A Showgirl! A shining star shooting across the night sky from Atlantic City to Broadway. Or wherever new Broadway is since the Big Apple is a big crater. I was going to sell autograph for funds as I travel, but that'll be difficult without a place to work out of. Would you do me the pleasure of letting me stay here while I sort this out? "
- "Is it hot in here or is it just me? "
- "You look like someone who needs their daily dose of iron. Oh would you look at that? I'm 30% iron. "
- "That... That was me flirting... Wow, that went right over your head, didn't it? "
- "Well, if you really feel that way, I think it's about time we make a... proper connection. "
- "Huh, remind me to change my shock absorbers. I think we've worn them out. "
- "Welcome back darling. Now that you're here, how about we //ASSUME THE POSITION// ? "
- "SHOWGIRL PERSONALITY DELETED! ACTIVATING INSTANT KILL MODE! ... Just kidding. "
Appearances[]
Adelaide appears only in Fallout 76, introduced in the Expeditions: Atlantic City update part two, America's Playground.
Behind the scenes[]
- SkyBox Labs developer Ryan White was a writer for Adelaide; White also wrote for Steven Scarberry and Grandma Junko.[Non-game 1]
- A similar character to Adelaide, a flirty Assaultron named Jesse, was supposed to be part of a random encounter, and has voice clips still within the game files, but was cut. Jesse's existence is known to date back to at least 2022.
- Adelaide uses the phrase "I've got gizmos and gadgets galore" when describing her robotic perception levels. This is a reference to the 1989 animated film The Little Mermaid, specifically the song "Part of Your World," which contains the line "I've got gadgets and gizmos a-plenty."
- One of Adelaide's dialogue lines is "Oh really? Well, don't keep a girl waiting in antici...pation." This is a reference to the 1975 musical film The Rocky Horror Picture Show, specifically the song "Sweet Transvestite" and actor Tim Curry's memorable delivery of the line "I see you shiver with antici...pation."
- Adelaide mentions if the player "interfaces" too much in one day, they will go blind. This is a reference to an old wives' tale about masturbation causing blindness.
- Adelaide's greeting line about "ASSUM[ING] THE POSITION" is a reference to Fisto, a robot programmed for sexual use in Fallout: New Vegas.
- The code to deactivate Adelaide's remote transceiver is "Ice Cream." In Fallout: New Vegas, "ice cream" is used as a robotic bypass code on two occasions, in conversation with Securitrons to enter the New Vegas Strip, as well as executive access to the REPCONN headquarters.
- Adelaide mentions that New York City is a big crater. This is the first time the city's fate is addressed in the series, as a memo only previously said it was worse off than Boston.

- ↑ Ryan White on LinkedIn: "Outside of lead responsibilities, I've also been keeping up with my writing for the project. I've previously posted about Rip Daring's adventures, but I've also had the opportunity to write a lot more, like B-movie radio ads, quips from an underqualified baking machine, and numerous non-linear allies for the players to talk to.
I'm especially proud of the allies, as they've all become fan favorites and resonate with players for different reasons. Steven Scarberry is a passionate priest who is beginning to question his faith as he has not seen his deity, the local cryptid known as Mothman. Grandma Junko is a sweet and caring old lady who seems out of time, as she is either oblivious to the state of the world or refuses to acknowledge it for some reason. And most recently Adelaide, a weapon of mass destruction that was reprogrammed into a showgirl who sings show tunes.
It's an incredible feeling seeing the fan responses since I got to take these characters all the way from planning, to recording, to implementation. All of this is something I'll never get tired of, and I look forward to posting more updates on my work when I can."
