General[]
- Moral: You don't have to succeed to impress your loved ones; what matters is you're trying your best.
- This episode takes place some time after "Chipocalypse Now".
- Gloria now resides in the Greens' basement.
- Gloria's parents are introduced, and her last name is revealed to be Sato.
- Mr. and Mrs. Sato are voiced by Keone Young and Amy Hill, who voiced characters on American Dragon: Jake Long; Young voiced Grandpa Lao Shi, while Hill voiced Aunt Cathy.
- Young also portrayed Silas Sinister in the Disney Channel Original Movie Return to Halloweentown, and Chief Tuka in The Even Stevens Movie.
- Hill also did the voice of Mrs. Hasagawa in the Lilo & Stitch franchise, and Wanda Wong in Kim Possible. She also played Phyllis Rangoon in Max Keeble's Big Move.
- This is the first time Gloria went into the Remingtons' mansion.
- The theme song is largely unchanged, with a few new additions:
- The scene of Cricket, Tilly and Remy vaulting over the Big Coffee fence and bothering Gloria is changed to a scene where Gramma checks on the basement and Cricket and Tilly jump on Gloria's mattress, reflecting that she now lives with them.
- The shots of Big Coffee are updated to have no sign and a "FOR LEASE" sign on the front.
- A clip from this episode was released on January 23, 2021.
- This episode features one of the hardest-to-find Easter eggs, only appearing onscreen for about eight frames. It is seen camouflaged as part of a football trophy next to the front door of the Remingtons' just before Gloria enters.
- Anna Akana may have strained her voice when Gloria found out about Emily buying a new house, so Anna Akana used a straw phonation to recover her voice.
Continuity[]
- Bill is shown gardening in a plant box, which was saved from the rooftop garden when it got destroyed in the previous episode.
- This is the second time that someone else speaks Japanese (Sato parents; the first instance is the man in Tilly's storyboards in "Cheap Show")
- The Remingtons' robot butler reappears since "Mansion Madness"; here, it is redesigned and now the same height as Gloria.
- Tilly answering Gloria's phone, and Gloria tries to stop her, is similar to "Remy Rescue" when Cricket answers Remy's phone, and Remy tries to stop him.
- Tilly gets Gloria's phone permanently in "Ding Dongers"; it's unknown if she kept it because she gave it up in the end.
Production[]
- The episode title is short for "Parent Control"; the apostrophe in the title card was added as a last minute decision to make "rent" be short for "parent", referring to what Gloria does in the episode.[1]
- The Remingtons' yellow car is a Lamborghini Huracan, it was added in by the request of Steve Lowtwait's son. [2]
