Big City Greens Wiki

Wholesome Foods, the supermarket division of Wholesome Foods Corporation, is a company depicted in Big City Greens. It is the main rival of Green Family Farms.

It operates a supermarket that sells mostly organic produce. It was run by Mr. Whistler until "Reckoning Ball", where he retired and passed control of the company down to his son Chip Whistler, until he was fired and banned from Big City as of "Chipocalypse Now". It first appeared in "Steak Night", and after the events of "Feud Fight", its opinion with the public significantly decreased.

Appearance[]

Dedicated supermarkets[]

The store that appeared in "Steak Night" and "Harvest Dinner" has a wooden facade, and green walls. Outside, to its left, there is a section that sells plants, and to its right there is a trolley parking slot, and what seems to be a cafe area (Chip mentions in "Coffee Quest" that the stores all have in-house coffee bars) Two sets of balloons are seen in a display board to the left, which may be where Tilly got her balloon. This store is in front of the street, implying the parking lot may be placed next to it. This store in particular is very close by to the subway station.

The store that appears in "Supermarket Scandal" and onward looks like a conventional store. Its facade drops the wooden textures, instead appearing on the walls. There seems to be 3 vending machines to the left, and a cafe area to the right. This store is in front of a parking lot.

Both stores have green roofs.

A third branch appears in "Times Circle" in the titular location.

A fourth branch, the Wholesome Foods Mega-Store, was planned in "Chipwrecked" and constructed in "Chipocalypse Now", as part of Chip's new expansion plan to turn Elkins Street into Wholesome Foods property. It takes the place of Big Coffee and the Elkins Apartment, with the area where the Greens' house stands to be replaced by a parking lot. After a long battle for the Greens' legacy, it was shut down and demolished by the mayor, and Chip is fired and banned from Big City for good.

History[]

Striking a deal[]

You have got a deal, little guy

Cricket and Chip strike a deal.

In "Supermarket Scandal", Chip Whistler, manager of Wholesome Foods, approached Bill Green, who was running a Green Family Farms stall, and asked him if he would supply produce for the supermarket, as their produce stock have been running low. While Bill declined, his son Cricket Green agreed to supply the produce.

Since their produce is not sufficient enough, Cricket and his sister Tilly Green decide to make fake produce - inedible items painted to resemble produce - which is enough to fulfill the deal. The fake produce was also stocked at the supermarket itself, though Cricket buys them all with the cash he earned through his deal.

Later, Cricket decides to sell the fake produce. When Chip decides to bite into one, disregarding Cricket’s warning, his tooth chips and splits down the middle. He swears vengence on the Greens for "ruining [his] beautiful face", beginning a rivalry between the Greens and Wholesome Foods.

Cricket's feud with Wholesome Foods[]

Start of tomato war

Once a deal, now a dispute.

In "Feud Fight", Chip, seeking vengence after his previous encounter, arrives to intimidate Cricket, setting up a Farmer's Market booth to rival Green Family Farms'. Not wanting to be one-upped by Chip, Cricket decides to recruit Tilly for his cause.

Later, they start a feud driven by customer loyalty, which turns into insulting and eventually an all-out tomato war between Cricket with his farmers and Chip. After being told by Tilly not to waste the produce, Cricket decides to stand down, but Chip believes he's forfeiting the match and decides to attack Cricket relentlessly, taunting him victoriously. This action causes public backlash, deciding to side with Cricket, and eventually a decrease in population for the franchise.

In “Coffee Quest”, Chip and fellow employees “Wholesome” Greg and “Wholesome” Rose try to obtain a bag of coffee beans for the Wholesome Foods in-store coffee bar from Cricket and Gloria Sato of Big Coffee, but fail to do so.

Period of backlash[]

Anti Chip video 2

After a video of Chip violently attacking Cricket with tomatoes went viral, public opinion of Wholesome Foods decreased.

The infamous act of Chip attacking Cricket had a big impact within and outside the company, with people even protesting against it. In "Reckoning Ball", Chip, humiliated that he lost to the Greens, decides to drive them out of town himself by destroying their home with a wrecking ball, though he fails, thanks to Keys coming out of nowhere to protect them and threaten to arrest Chip for attempting murder, causing him to lose control of the wrecking ball and destroy part of their roof instead, and he gets injured in their place.

Chip is soon reprimanded by his father, who threatens to kick him out of the company should he not apologize, and get the Greens to sign the forgiveness contract to prove that they forgive him. After going insane trying to work for the Greens, he is nursed back to health by them, and after seeing their true selves, he decides to issue an apology thanks to advice from Bill to "put in the work" before he can "reap the rewards", and once he does so, he can have anything he wants in life. Having been convinced he's truly sorry and really means it, the Greens sign the forgiveness contract as a family, though Alice remained suspicious.

Under new management, with a thirst for vengeance[]

Mr

Mr. Whistler retires and passes control of the company over to his son, not knowing of his true intentions.

Following Chip's promotion to CEO, Mr. Whistler decides to retire and hands over the position to Chip. Later on his office however, Chip reveals that the apology was all but an act; now the CEO, and with full control of the company with no interference from his dad, he vows to seek his full revenge against the Greens sometime soon, thus defying his father in the process, and Cricket must defeat Chip once and for all.

Despite becoming the new CEO however, this did not yet redeem Chip's reputation on the internet, and by the time he stepped in, people are still boycotting the stores.

Wholesome Foods appears in Farm Con, and Chip came along not to supervise the company, but to forge a fake friendship with Bill in order to sabotage his speech later on. However, he was thwarted once again. ("Friend Con")

Expansion plans/Battle for Elkins Street[]

Citizens sprayed with coffee 3

Chip tries to force Big Coffee out of business.

Reeling after failure after failure, Chip decides to pull out one of his last resorts; pulling up to Big Coffee a large truck with Greg and Rose launching a stream of coffee at passers-by. Cricket, who has stopped taking Chip seriously, completely doubts at this and begins to mock him over his failures, which bothers him.

However, even this is thwarted as Officer Keys has the truck be towed away due to parking nearby a fire hydrant; Chip attempts to hold on to the truck, but he doesn't realize one of his legs is straining the hydrant, breaking it loose and launching him towards a billboard. When Chip boasts, he falls off the building he was on and is crushed by the billboard, chipping his tooth once again, which Cricket keeps to himself.

Peace out, my dudes

Ms. Cho is bribed into handing Big Coffee over to Chip.

A few hours later, Mr. Whistler calls to check in on his son, and reminds Chip that he has been hearing that he's been skipping out on CEO duties, not knowing of his intent to pursue the Greens. When Mr. Whistler tells him to put the company to work for him, Chip takes it a different way and fires Greg and Rose, and at the next company meeting, he introduces his workers to the Wholesome Foods Expansion Plan.

Chip arrives at Big Coffee with a squad of burly men, who start to tear down the place to the Greens' shock; Cricket tries to stop them, but he is immediately outmatched. Chip then bribes Ms. Cho into retirement, taking over ownership of the cafe, and fires the Greens and Gloria. Before he leaves, Chip tells them that in order for the Expansion Plan to work, he has to target another place: the Greens' house. His plan successful, he leaves the Greens and Gloria at the sidewalk, nervous about what's happening next. ("Chipwrecked")

Mega-Store constructed over the Green house

Chip has had ENOUGH.

Chip's expansion plan commences with demolishing the buildings around the Greens' house, and with Big Coffee and the Elkins Apartment gone, the Mega-Store is built in less than a week (attributed to "shoddy building codes"). With the Mega-Store built, the Greens suffer production from their farming and the house is now targeted for demolition next day; Bill considers moving on like they did in the past, but Cricket refuses to back down.

Chopper held back by power lines

Chip is about to become the marble in the world's biggest slingshot.

To entice the destruction further, Chip issues a destruction petition with fake signatures of everyone in Big City, making Cricket think everyone hates the family. Fortunately, Cricket soon finds out the truth. By midnight, the construction crew arrives early and an all-out war for the house commences, only to get foiled by the Greens and Remy's joint efforts, and the rest of Big City standing up for them having taken Tilly's rousing speech to heart. With the battle won, the expansion plan is cancelled, the Mega-Store is closed and demolished, Elkins Street is restored back to normal (but Big Coffee is still closed), and Chip is banned from Big City. ("Chipocalypse Now")

The only "downfall" to Chip's plan was the Greens won't be leaving Big City should their house get destroyed, as Bill was shown looking up various city apartments (in the family's price range) to move to if Chip wins. The resulting ban of Chip from the city also almost culminated with nearly killing Cricket and the Greens, and by extension, all the citygoers who stuck up for them.

Aftermath, with a secret thirst for vengeance[]

Cloaked figure revealed to be Chip

Pariah. Outcast.

With the Wholesome Foods Mega-Store closed and demolished and Chip banned from Big City, with all his assets lost, many people thought he was dead after being flung out of Big City in his helicopter. However, he has faked his death, and is plotting to strike back in a big way. ("Long Goodbye")

Some time later, Chip sees a news report on his defeat, effectively putting him on hiatus, not knowing what to do with his life. In addition, while he survived the helicopter crash, the rest of the city thought Chip died in the crash due to finding the chopper wreckage with him nowhere around; Chip decided to use their idiocy so he can secretly sneak back into the Greens' lives and plan bigger revenge against them. ("Chipped Off”)

While Chip is currently at large, it is currently unknown what happens to Wholesome Foods. However, it should be noted that a Wholesome Foods still exists in Times Circle, as shown in "Big Resolution".
