~ The Entity's famous catchphrase. |
“ | Little sister, He is searching for you. The Shadowsmiths, will, take you. | „ |
~ The Entity's last words after being killed by the Deadbolt Strike Team, Ravenov and Dr. Ava Jansen. |
The Entity is the main antagonist of the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III's zombies mode. She is the dark shadow of Dr. Ava Jansen, who attempts to enact a full bond with her, despite this putting the latter’s world at risk from the forces of the Dark Aether.
Biography[]
The Entity was born in 1993 in the Dark Aether, as seen as her being a dark shadow of Dr. Ava Jansen born at the same time as her due to their mother Samantha Maxis’ strong connection to the realm. Throughout her life, The Entity repeatedly attempted to reach out to her sister, but a full connection could not be made due to the dimensional barriers between their worlds. Jansen also began taking pills to suppress visions from The Entity.
Contacting her sister[]
When Viktor Zakhaev opened a dimensional breach within Zaravan, Urzikstan, the forces of the Dark Aether spread throughout the entire city. However, Jansen was able to contain this outbreak via The Neutralizer, which destroys any Aetherium around it. However, it also opened a portal to the Dark Aether, of which The Entity was able to emerge and pull all soldiers around her towards her, included Jansen. While the soldiers were killed, The Entity contacted Jansen, causing her to scream and pass out, awaking with no memory of what happened.
Meeting Operation Deadbolt[]
The Entity begins opening Dark Aether rifts, of which various Deadbolt Striketeams enter. In the first, The Entity speaks to them and has them power various alters. After they return to their home world, Jansen researches Project Janus and the Office of Requiem, the latter of which Deadbolt’s consultant Sergei Ravenov was apart of. The entity gives her a nightmare, and had her believe HQ had been taken over by zombies, she fights them, only for things to apparently return to normal as she kills Ravenov. She awakes, however, as the real Ravenov contacts her for debriefing.
Manipulating her sister[]
As Ravenov explains that The Entity represents her dark shadow, Jansen is overwhelmed by the weight of these revelations. Feeling betrayed and hurt by Ravenov's decision to keep such crucial information from her, she storms out of the headquarters, grappling with feelings of anger and confusion regarding her identity and the implications of her origins. Once there, Ravenov takes a moment to reveal a shocking video recorded by the late Dr. Elizabeth Grey. The footage unveils a hidden truth about Jansen's origins: although she was carried and birthed by her, her biological mother through surrogacy was none other than Samantha Maxis, who is currently trapped within the Dark Aether. This revelation is further complicated by the fact that Jansen’s DNA was combined with Ravenov’s—without his consent—during a time when Requiem was facing imminent collapse due to the overwhelming effects of Dark Aether exposure, which prevented them from continuing their critical research.
Their search leads them to a confrontation where they discover The Entity has taken possession of Jansen. With determination and teamwork, they manage to break the hold The Entity has over her, freeing Jansen from its sinister grasp. However, The Entity, furious at their interference, retaliates with lethal intent. In a harrowing escape, the team narrowly avoids a deadly confrontation and makes it back to their headquarters. Jansen's frustration reaches a boiling point when she confronts Ravenov for withholding critical information about a past incursion into the Dark Aether. As tensions rise, The Entity, a malevolent force, takes advantage of Jansen's anger and vulnerability, skillfully manipulating her emotions and ultimately persuading her to embrace the dark powers of the Dark Aether. In a desperate attempt to bring her back, Ravenov and a specialized Strike Team embark on a relentless pursuit to rescue Jansen from the clutches of The Entity.
Death[]
Jansen ultimately manages to mend her relationship with Ravenov, persuading him to join her for a final confrontation with The Entity. Accompanied by a Strike Team, they embark on a journey where they uncover numerous relics from Jansen's past. As they delve into these artifacts, The Entity reveals memories associated with them. In an act of determination, Jansen cleanses these relics, liberating them from The Entity's influence and breaking the connection they once had. Throughout this process, she desperately implores her sister to cease her actions, warning her that there are malevolent forces in the realm that seek to exploit her immense power.
However, Jansen remains steadfast, recognizing that their bond poses a significant risk to her world due to the looming threat of the Dark Aether. After discovering the lair of The Entity, Jansen resolves to compel her sister's cooperation by resorting to lethal measures against Ravenov and the Strike Team. Utilizing her abilities, Jansen weakens The Entity, allowing the team to exploit her vulnerabilities and ultimately bring about her destruction. With The Entity's demise, the forces of the Dark Aether begin to recede back into their own dimension, leading to the swift conclusion of the Zaravan outbreak shortly thereafter.
Echo[]
After her death, a more powerful echo was spawned in the Dark Aether. When a Strike Team entered, it guided them with secret markings to it’s lair, where it attempted to kill them. However, the Strike Team were able to destroy it too.
