Miklan Anschutz Gautier is a minor antagonist in the game Fire Emblem: Three Houses, in particular being a minor antagonist in White Clouds. He is Sylvain's vengeful older half-brother and archenemy who was upset that Sylvain had a Crest while he did not, causing him to abandon House Gautier and become a muderous bandit leader. He eventually stole the Lance of Ruin and was killed by Byleth and their class after being turned into the Black Beast.
He was voiced by Daisuke Endo in Japanese and Armen Taylor in English (who also voiced Risotto Nero).
Personality[]
Miklan is vengeful by nature and has an easy time blaming other people for things that aren't their fault. He is also extremely petty, since he is willing to take drastic measures on very minor things. This is best seen with his younger brother Sylvain and his relationship with Miklan. Since Sylvain the favourite child due to him having a Crest, this leads Miklan to hate him, and even try to kill Sylvain at numerous points in his life.
Miklan has a very bad relationship with Sylvain, mainly due to Miklan's pettiness. Despite the fact that Sylvain having a Crest while he did not was not Sylvain's fault, he still blamed him for taking his birthright. Even when Sylvain is about to fight him and Sylvain pleads to Miklan to give up and rejoin house Gautier, Miklan laughs in his face, telling him that he will enjoy killing Sylvain and will murder all of his friends once he is done.
Miklan is also extremely ruthless and sadistic, since Seteth mentions that Miklan has destroyed many villages and has sadistically enjoyed burning them to the ground. More than anything, Miklan has a lust for power, and is willing to do anything and kill anyone to get it, may it be innocent bystanders or his own brother.
Biography[]
Miklan is the oldest child of House Gautier and was planned to be the heir of the house. However, since Sylvain was born with the Crest of Gautier, and that Miklan was born without it, the family heavily favored Sylvain and ended up planning to allow Sylvain to become the heir of House Gautier, despite Miklan being older. This lead to Miklan attempting to murder Sylvain numerous times (including pushing him down a well), and when that failed, he abandoned House Gautier and formed a band of bandits. From there, Miklan and his bandits ravaged the area, tearing through villages and murdering hundreds of people.
Years later, he lead his bandit gang into his old home in order to steal their ancient relic, the Lance of Ruin. After successfully taking it, he retreated with his group to the Tower of Black Winds where he could hide away from the church. The church found his location soon enough and sent Byleth and his class to stop Miklan and take back the lance. While Miklan and his bandits tried to defeat them, they were no match for the power of Byleth, Gilbert and the class.
Miklan, knowing that he needs more power to defeat the class, tries to use the power of the Lance of Ruin to strengthen him. However, due to him being Crestless, the Lance doesn't work, and instead it consumes him and transforms Miklan into the Black Beast. After killing some of his own men, the Beast attacks Byleth and his class. In the end, the Beast is defeated, killing Miklan for good.
