~ Mihawk's declaration following his first battle with Zoro. |
Dracule Mihawk also known as "Hawk-Eye", is a major antagonist in the manga/anime franchise One Piece. He is a pirate famed for being the Strongest Swordsman in the World. His title has attracted many swordsman that seek to battle with him, including Roronoa Zoro, whose main goal in life is to claim that very title from him.
Mihawk once served under the World Government as a member of the Seven Warlords of the Sea and was one of the few members to follow orders, though under his conditions. Likewise, he took part in the Summit War of Marineford where he assisted the Marines in defeating the Whitebeard Pirates. Afterwards, he encountered Zoro on his residence and helped train him in Haki after witnessing his determination.
Following the disbandment of the Warlords, Mihawk was once again deemed to be a threat to the World Government and is currently being hunted down by the Marines, forcing Mihawk to leave his home and relocate. As of now, he and Buggy have allied themselves with Crocodile, under his new organization called Cross Guild to establish bounties on the Marines' heads.
After his dismissal from the now-abolished Seven Warlords, Mihawk currently has a bounty of 3,590,000,000 berries making him as one of the most wanted criminals in the world, due to his great swordsmanship skills to be compare that to "Red Hair" Shanks of the Four Emperors.
He was voiced by the late Takeshi Aono, up until Episode 461 where he was replaced by Hirohiko Kakegawa in the Japanese. In an alternate English dub by Odex, he was voiced by Chuck Powers. In the English dub version of the One Piece anime by 4Kids Entertainment, he was voiced by Wayne Grayson. And in the Funimation English dubbed version, he was voiced by John Gremillion.
Appearance[]
Mihawk is a muscular man with black hair, goatee and golden hawk-like eyes. He wears a black trench jacket with red flower patterns underneath, purple pants, a black hat with a large plume. He wears a cross necklace, which carries a small knife he uses on rare occasions, primarily to test against swordsmen that challenge for his title. In his casual attire, he wears a white shirt and black pants. After time-skip, Mihawk grows wrinkles near his eyes.
Following the Levely incident, Mihawk began sporting a black trench jacket similar to his original one, only this time with golden flower patterns and light purple pants.
Personality[]
Mihawk is generally a stern and silent individual. Rarely is he ever seen with any other emotions and when he smiles, it's usually when he acknowledges his opponents' aspirations and growth. Unlike most of the warlords, he prefers to work alone and while he has shown to be willing to follow the orders given from his superiors, he doesn't care too much to be on time for attendance. In fact, he is very selective in terms of fulfilling his duties as most of the time, he prefers to sail around the seas, attacking other pirates, simply to have some fun.
During the war between the Marines and the Whitebeard Pirates, Mihawk agreed to take participation, only under the conditions to fight Whitebeard only. As such, he refused to fight Shanks upon his arrival, and took his leave. Likewise, he has also shown to be somewhat of a thrill seeker, as he expressed his excitement towards the Marines hunting him, following his revoked status as a warlord.
Mihawk has shown to be very perceptive of the people he faces and recognizes their strength and skill. As such, he usually looks down on those that are foolish enough to challenge him as most people he has faced are nowhere close to being equal to him. When faced in combat, he takes himself very seriously and fights with the full intent of grievously injuring his enemies, if not, outright kill them.
However, for this very reason, he is also able to recognize their potential from their determination alone. In situations like these, Mihawk acknowledges the code of the swordsmen and grants his opponents an honorable end. Most notably was when he first encountered Zoro, who he had looked down upon initially, but upon witnessing his determination, he looked very forward to the day Zoro would truly be able to face him as his worthy foe. He somewhat respects Luffy and also acknowledged his status as an Emperor as generally well earned for defeating Kaido. Despite this, Mihawk himself has no interest in becoming an Emperor of the Sea nor does he had any intentions of fighting all of them (including Luffy himself).
Like Crocodile, Mihawk is also intolerant for weakness and cowardice when he looks down on Buggy the Clown and considered him as a joke for being weak, pathetic and cowardly.
Despite his distant behavior, he has shown to be sociable with others, as he retains a friendly relationship with his old rival Shanks and attended a party he held to celebrate Luffy's status as a pirate. He was even willing allow Perona and Zoro reside in his castle, until both of them decided to leave under their own accords.
