Weasel is a one-time character and a minor antagonist in the HBO television series Game of Thrones. He is a servant to Ser Gregor Clegane, the head of House Clegane, and assisted the Tickler, one of the Mountain's Men in his interrogation and torture of prisoners at Harrenhal.
He was portrayed by Paul Kealyn.
Biography[]
Season 2[]
Weasel is seen assisting the Tickler in the torture of one of the many prisoners at the ruined castle of Harrenhal, the former seat of House Whent. While the Tickler interrogated a prisoner on the whereabouts of the Brotherhood without Banners, Weasel strapped the man and when the latter denies any knowledge on the Brotherhood's whereabouts and who aided them, he places a rat inside a bucket before strapping over the prisoner's bare chest.
As the prisoner continues to deny knowledge on who aided the Brotherhood without Banners, Weasel began heating the bucket with a torch, causing the rat inside to start clawing at the prisoner's flesh. This made the man reveal that a Butcher named Ganes and his son were the ones who aided the Brotherhood. Though the Tickler was satisfied, he callously and sadistically has Weasel torture the prisoner to death, which was witnessed by Arya Stark.
Weasel is later seen again assisting the Tickler in the questioning of prisoners, with the Mountain selecting Gendry as the Tickler's next victim this time. Weasel restrains Gendry as the Tickler's asks him the same questions as before. As Weasel is about to place the bucket on Gendry's chest, the soldiers are interrupted by the arrival of Lord Tywin Lannister, who arrives and chastises them for torturing many prisoners, as he believes that they are more useful alive for labor.
What became of Weasel by the end of the series is unknown.
Trivia[]
- Weasel appears only in one episode of the second season (Garden of Bones).
- In the A Song of Ice and Fire novels, there is no House Clegane retainer named "Weasel". In Harrenhal there is instead one man named Weese. Rather than being a servant of the Mountain, he is the understeward of the Wailing Tower of Harrenhal. He initially serves as a servant to House Whent but later submits to House Lannister after the castle is taken by the invading Westermen. Being a cruel and abusive person, Weese was also very unhinged and possibly insane, as he would become aggressive at the slightest provocation, even just staring at him. Because of his attitude and his tendency to violently mistreat other servants, including Arya, this earned him a spot in her prayer kill list and became her second victim when he was killed by Jaqen H'ghar on Arya's orders.
- In the TV show, Weese's role as Arya and Jaqen's second victim was given to Ser Amory Lorch, who in the books lives longer and is eventually and brutally killed by Vargo Hoat.
- In the novels, the closest counterpart to Weasel is Chiswyck, a man-at-arms who is the one who occasionally aids the Tickler in torturing smallfolk, whenever the Mountain's warband leaves Harrenhal to raid. Unlike the show, their worst atrocities and tortures mostly occur outside Harrenhal, due to Tywin and his Westerlords being residents in the castle and keeping civil order. For his cruelty and his role in rape and torture, Chiswyck became Arya and Jaqen's first victim at Harrenhal.
- The name "Weasel" in the books is given to an unnamed two-year-old girl, who was found by Yoren during the march north with his caravan. Lommy Greenhands called her Weasel, as because of her dirty matted hair, he thought she looked like an animal. When Arya, Gendry, Hot Pie, and Lommy were caught by Gregor Clegane and his men, Weasel ran off into the woods and was never seen again. In the House of Black and White in Braavos, the big eyes and hollow face of the Waif remind Arya of Weasel.
- During her service to House Lannister at Harrenhal, Arya takes the name "Weasel" for her own.
