"Nice work, guys! We'll have no trouble beating the heat with the World's Largest Drop of Water." — Phineas[src] |
The World's Largest Drop of Water is a ball of water created by Phineas and Ferb so that they can cool down in a fun way with their friends.
History[]
Phineas and Ferb are contemplating the hottest day of the summer, which Buford confirms by frying his saliva. At that moment, Baljeet returns from physics camp, where he had freshened up on concepts such as the surface tension of water molecules. Excited by the prospect of cooling off, the boys declare that they will explore the property in their favor. Buford soon leaves to tend to his pet goldfish, Biff, leaving the rest of the kids to proceed with the project.
Later on, the group finishes the invention, forming a near unbreakable water ball in which they can have fun whilst beating the heat. More of their friends join them throughout the day, with the Fireside Girls and Django partaking in a race alongside Baljeet. Surprisingly, the momentum from the swimming motion breaks the object's rest position, creating a flowing pool party. Controlling the sphere via jet skis, the gang begins to steer it through the various streets of Danville.
Along the way, they come across a road blocked by a guard, who suddenly allows them to pass on a double negative. Subsequently, the boys roll by Candace, giving her the urge to drag her mother to them. Meanwhile, Buford is ready to perform in the Danville Fish Show, when the liquid ball takes the entire setting with it. The sphere bursts once it hits a familiar public art, turning a nearby empty hole into a lake, wherein Buford takes the chance to win the contest, and Jeremy sets off to enjoy the party ("Great Balls Of Water").
Design[]
The World's Largest Drop of Water is an enormous sphere composed of a large quantity of packed water molecules, strung together to give its distinct shape. Initially affixed to the backyard's floor, it gains movement, deviating its form to an approximate droplet configuration.
Mechanics[]
The World's Largest Drop of Water is a water droplet with a modified constitution. Its hydrogen bonds are strengthened in order to create a semi-indestructible surface tension, permitting the allocation of heavier bodies within the stable area.
Background Information[]
- As explained by Baljeet, surface tension is the property which allows water molecules to form a stretchy layer, thus mantaining the shape and durability at a conventionally small size.
- Baljeet confirms via calculations that the water ball is indeed virtually unbreakable, owing it to its tighter attractive forces.
- Entering the sphere, Phineas exclaims, "let's surf the surface tension!", an alliterative play on the words "surf" and "surface". Afterwards, he screams "cowabunga!", an expression popularly associated with surf culture.
- Each of the kids do different initial activities while in the ball:
- Following their first stunts, the kids pull off collective rounds of racing, surfboard rowing, and jetskiing.
- Phineas, Ferb, and Isabella use the same surfboards from the squirrel endeavor.
- Phineas states that they can steer their creation by paddling to the opposite direction of their desired path, to which Isabella remarks that it is rather counter-intuitive. This is a technique known as countersteering, in which reverse steering is utilized as to not lose momentum in a turn.
- Riding the giant droplet, the kids go through Bumpy Street, Zigzag Street, Loop-de-Loop Street, and a prohibited road.
- The popping sequence is a reference to a previous adventure, where the boys nearly burst their bubble in the same artwork.
- In the end, Linda pokes fun at her daughter by comparing the lake to a hypothetical giant ball of water.
