"Well, yeah, attached to a giant revolving treadmill with a giant soft neighborhood containing soft obstacles." — Phineas[src] |
The Foam Town is a treadmill course created by Phineas and Ferb as a safe space for them and their friends to skateboard around.
History[]
Phineas, Ferb, and their friends are attempting skateboarding tricks in the sidewalk of the Flynn-Fletcher house. While Isabella and Baljeet perform successfully, Buford lets his skate hit the hydrant. Intrigued, the kids wonder the reason for his carefulness, which he explains is due to not having credit for hospital visits. As a solution, Baljeet suggests they construct a foam obstacle, inspiring the boys to instead create a whole soft neighborhood.
Later in the day, the foam wheel is ready to begin operating. Inside it, Phineas gives the signal for Ferb to activate it, starting their safe ride through it. Still clumsy, Buford falls multiple times, though he admits to having fun skating in the treadmill. Meanwhile, Candace is chit-chatting with Jeremy at the Danville Space Laboratory, when she gets the idea to check on her brothers via the surveillance satellite.
The giant structure in the backyard piques the couple's interest, leading Candace to fetch her mother to view it. At the house, the kids turn the invention off for a snack break. Soon after, a bat carries a doctor to the structure, quickly loosening it as the latter bangs his head on the cogs. The town rolls away to a desert before anyone else can see it, stunning the gang and Candace ("Face Your Fear").
Design[]
The Foam Town is a treadmill structure composed of foam material, having a color scheme consisting primarily of pink, orange, blue, and green. A tilted oval wheel, it is sustained by four pairs of cogs connected to a center piece, with its bases linked to the outside areas of the backyard. Based on a neighborhood, the artificial town contains many houses, background objects, and constructs usually found in suburban boroughs, such as trees, benches, a stairway, fire hydrants, trash cans, logs, posts, a park table, plant vases, traffic signs, fences, bushes, flower patches, and a billboard.
Mechanics[]
The Foam Town is constituted of foam material, stable elastic substances that minimize the impact of an accident in its surface. This enables a safe environment for otherwise risky activities like skateboarding, thus permitting the realization of more dangerous maneuvers. Examples of such as demonstrated are rail sliding, 180 degree jumping, in-motion flipping, close-range obstacle dodging, and aerial flipping.
Background Information[]
- Baljeet's initial idea is to concoct a special fire hydrant out of foam rubber, likely stemming from the compound of firefighting foam.
- When Phineas accepts Baljeet's plan, Ferb is confused about its simplicity, prompting his brother to clarify that the project has a larger scale.
- The skateboards used by the kids are the same ones appropriated for squirrels in a past endeavor of theirs.
- Once the global satellites are presented, Jeremy anticipates Candace using their functionality to bust her brothers. This does not happen until some time later, when they stop at the cafeteria.
- At the end, the Foam Town unravels at a desert near the location of a Crazy Old Coot and his donkey, forcing them to continue navigating the hot land.
- Foam Town and its respective song are consistently renamed "Sponge Town" across several dubs, including the Japanese, Korean, Polish, and Spanish (Latin American) versions.
