“Is he a Shintaran Ridgeback?”

Shintaran Ridgebacks are a type of dragon from Shintaro Mountain.

History[]

Background[]

Vania, as a child, owned and looked after a baby Shintaran Ridgeback, which she named Chompy.

Master of the Mountain[]

As years passed by, Vania would usually have Chompy around to keep her company, while the ninja searched for Cole in the Dungeons of Shintaro. Later, when Cole faces a giant spider in the caverns, Vania and Chompy come to his aid, though as the spider attacks Chompy, he transforms into a larger dragon, unnoticed by Vania. Later, back on the surface as Cole, Wu and Vania found out that Vangelis was the Skull Sorcerer, they were cast into Rock-Bottom, while Vangelis had Hailmar and his guards lock up Chompy. Eventually, Vania, alongside Cole, Wu and the Upply freed Chompy from his cage, and when confronted by the Army of Shintaro, Chompy transforms to ward them off. Vania is then able to reason with Hailmar and his guards, and they travel to the Dungeons to defeat the Skull Sorcerer and the Re-Awakened. During the battle, Wu rode Chompy into battle against Grief-Bringer. Following Vangelis' defeat, Chompy was present at Vania's ceremony where she is crowned queen.

Crystalized[]

During the final prophecy of Quanish the Elder, the Army of Shintaro, the Upply, the Geckles and Munce arrive to aid the ninja against the Overlord's Crystal army while riding on a transformed Chompy. Following the Overlord's defeat, Chompy helped the ninja and their many allies to rebuild the Monastery of Spinjitzu.

Abilities[]

  • Pyrokinetic Breath - Like most species of dragons, Shintaran Ridgebacks can spew fire.
  • Flight - Like many of the other dragons, Shintaran Ridgebacks can fly.
  • Size Manipulation - Their most unique ability is that they can grow from a small to a large dragon.

Trivia[]

  • The species' name is possibly a reference to the dragon species Norwegian Ridgeback from the J.K. Rowling book series Harry Potter.
  • It is currently unknown if Grief-Bringer was a Shintaran Ridgeback prior to his defeat.
    • However, this is unlikely since he was not native to Shintaro Mountain.[1]
  • They can get sick if they eat yellow flowers in the flower gardens.
  • They are the first dragons in the TV series that are not based on an elemental power.
    • According to Chris "Doc" Wyatt, the ability for Shintaran Ridgebacks to transform (as seen with Chompy) is a unique ability to their species, not based on an elemental ability.[2]
