- Not to be confused with the ability.
Dragon Form is the twenty-ninth and penultimate episode of the fifteenth season of Ninjago and the 209th episode overall.
Synopsis
Lloyd and Garmadon face the Crystal King as the Ninja strike back at the enemy with old allies and new powers.
Extended: Lloyd and Garmadon battle the Crystal King in his new centaur-form. The Ninja's allies arrive, and the Ninja achieve their Dragon Form - golden armor and wings of elemental energy. The Crystal King turns Harumi against him when reveals he possessed the snake who would become the Great Devourer. Below, the Ninja defeat the council and restore the Weapons of Spinjitzu, but victory is short-lived.[1]
LEGO's YouTube Channel: During the battle against the Crystal King, Lloyd asks Harumi if she will side with the Ninja and save NINJAGO City. As more allies arrive, Master Wu realizes that this is the moment prophesized in the scroll to unlock the Dragon Form!
Will Harumi help the Ninja save NINJAGO City? Will the Ninja finally be able to use the Dragon Form?
Plot
Lloyd and Garmadon both take the fight to the Overlord on top of the Crystal Island. The Overlord, claiming that defeating him will not be easy, transforms into a centaur-like creature and overpowers both Lloyd and Garmadon. In the process, Killow's exo suit is destroyed. Meanwhile, the Resistance fight off the Crystal Warriors, the Dragonides and the Council of the Crystal King.
However, due to the influence of the Vengestone on the Crystal Warriors' bodies, the ninja and Skylor's powers are eventually nullified, and Ultra Violet, Killow and Ronin become crystalized. Just when the Resistance are about to be defeated, armies of the ninja's past allies return, such as the Army of Shintaro, the Upply, the Geckles, the Munce, the Keepers, the Maaray Guards, the Hypnobrai, the Red Visors, the Whack Rats, and their friends and families fight off the Crystal army.
Realizing the power of unity, the four ninja are able to unlock their Dragon Forms and fight off their respective Crystal Council counterparts; Zane fights Mister F, Cole battles Vangelis, Kai fights Aspheera, and Jay faces off Pythor while Nya, with help from Okino, takes on the Mechanic. As this occurs, the Overlord continues to overpower Lloyd and Garmadon, and reveals that he was responsible for corrupting the Great Devourer, resulting in Garmadon's corruption as a child, and everything influenced by the Overlord was all part of his design leading up to this moment. Harumi, however, is devastated upon the revelation of this and that it was the Overlord who indirectly took her parents from her during the Great Devourer's attack, and immediately turns against the Overlord, finally siding with Lloyd and Garmadon.
As the ninja reclaim their individual Golden Weapons, they channel their Elemental Powers to break the crystals corrupting them and restoring them back to their pure energy once more. This renders the Crystal Warriors powerless, and they are destroyed by the members of the Resistance. However, just when they think they've secured victory, Aspheera claims that the ninja and the others will be corrupted by the Overlord before being frozen by Zane. The Overlord only begins to grow stronger in power, and fights back Harumi, Lloyd and Garmadon. Wu finally realizes that what Aspheera said was accurate; that the Overlord plans to corrupt the Elements of Creation, which will petrify all life in Ninjago, and that they are too late to stop the Overlord's plan.

Trivia
- Narrator: Wu
- This is the seventh and final episode of the original series to include the word "Dragon." Other episodes include "Flight of the Dragon Ninja," "The Day of the Dragon," "Beasts and Dragons," "The Oni and the Dragon," "How to Build a Dragon," and "The Maze of the Red Dragon."
- The Overlord being behind the Great Devourer was first implied in Tomb of the Fangpyre, which released over 10 years before this episode aired.
- The Overlord's centaur form is similar to his dragon form from "Rise of the Spinjitzu Master."
- Both of these forms are an upgrade from The Overlord's previous humanoid form, to a more animal-like appearance.
- Coincidentally, both of these forms allow The Overlord to fly.
- The reason most of the returning characters don't make voice cameos is due to budget constraints. It would have cost more for the studio to bring back voice actors just to record a line or two.
- For instance, when The Mechanic asks who Okino is, Nya is the one who responds with Okino's catchphrase, as Alessandro Juliani wasn't involved with the season.
- The beginning of The Crystalized Whip plays as the Ninja achieve their dragon forms.
- This is the ninth and final Crystalized episode to feature Vangelis. Coincidentally, Vangelis also appeared in nine episodes of Master of the Mountain, of which he was the main antagonist.
- Pythor is the only Council member to not speak in this episode, not counting Mister F who can't talk.
- Interestingly, the order in which the ninja reclaim back their Golden Weapons (Zane, Cole, Jay, and Kai) is the same order in which they unlock their golden forms in "Enter the Digiverse."
Cultural references
- Harumi's betrayal of the Overlord is a reference to Darth Vader's betrayal of Emperor Palpatine in Star Wars: Return of the Jedi.
- The difference is however, Harumi lives while Darth Vader died shortly afterwards.
- The Overlord electrocuting Lloyd and Garmadon is reminiscent of Palpatine electrocuting Luke Skywalker around the end of film. The Overlord also tells them "all that has happened was by my design!," similar to Palpatine's "everything that has transpired has done so according to my design."
- Harumi's betrayal is also incredibly similar to an event in Supernova, the finale of the Renegades series.
- Both Harumi and Nova unknowingly served the villains (the Overlord and Ace Anarchy respectively) who caused their families' deaths.
- Both Harumi and Nova started fighting against their former bosses when the truths were revealed.
- Surprisingly, both Harumi and Nova are the love interests of heroes (Lloyd and Adrian respectively). They also reunite with their love interests following the defeats of their former bosses.
Continuity
- This episode marks the return of many of the ninja's past allies. These include:
- Skales, Ray, Maya, Okino, Unagami, Milton Dyer, the Army of Shintaro, Vania, the Geckles, Munce, the Upply, the Maaray Guards, Ed and Edna first appearing since "The Turn of the Tide."
- Chompy first appearing since "Master of the Sea."
- Scott, Red Visors and Whack Rats first appearing since "Game Over."
- The Keepers and Zippy making their first appearance since "The Storm Amulet."
- Lou also makes his first appearance in present time since "Pause and Effect," and his first appearance overall since the flashback in "Dungeon Crawl!"
- This marks the third episode where a resistance of some form made up of the ninja and their many allies are gathered to battle the villainous faction in a climactic battle, with the first time being "The Corridor of Elders," and the second time being "Green Destiny."
- Skales' character arc that began in "The Curse of the Golden Master," where he refused to fight the Overlord and preferred to stay with the other Serpentine in their village, is finally completed here, as he decided to go to the surface and to fight the army of the very enemy he had previously so feared.
- The Overlord confirms that he was responsible for corrupting the Great Devourer to purposely turn Garmadon evil and use him to create strife and chaos, which set his plan to obtain a 'worthy vessel' in motion.
- The Overlord also claims Garmadon's power was a 'gift' from him, although Garmadon's elemental essence of Destruction stems from his Oni heritage, it's possible the Overlord meant that the Devourer boosted Garmadon's destructive powers to a level that he would not have reached had he not been corrupted.
- According to Tommy Andreasen, he theorized that the Overlord is the Oni side of the First Spinjitzu Master and thus, gave Garmadon his powers through the Great Devourer.[2][3] However, this statement shouldn't be considered canon since this is just his personal theory.
- Harumi also finds out the Overlord is responsible for her parents' demise.
- This is slightly inaccurate as Pythor was the one who released the Great Devourer, therefore he too was indirectly responsible for her parents' death.
- When Okino appears, Nya says "He is Okino!" referencing how Okino frequently says the line "I am Okino," throughout Prime Empire.
- Zane freezes Aspheera at the end, similar to how he did in "Vengeance is Mine!"
Errors
- Although Kai was seen with a regular katana at the end of the last episode, he was fighting with his golden katana in this episode.
- Shortly before the Resistance allies arrive, Jay's hair is misformed.
- When MiniPix Seven arrives in the Ninja Ultra Combo Mech, P.I.X.A.L.'s right armor pad is missing.
- Although Fungus' clothing had no moss after the last episode of Master of the Mountain and in Seabound, his clothing is now seen with moss on them once again.
- When Scott was revealed as one of the many allies that came to help the Resistance, he was first seen in his avatar appearance instead. He appears in his human appearance later.
- The Overlord mistakes the Great Devourer as a male, yet it is actually a female.
- When the ninja achieved their Dragon Form, the Scythe of Quakes and one of the Shurikens of Ice were seen in their purified state, despite them being the Weapons of Destruction until they were claimed by the ninja.
- When Vangelis talks about what Cole did to him, Cole's body and right armor pad become slightly transparent.
- When Jay purified the Nunchucks of Lightning, they were seen with blue electricity, though in the next scenes they appear in and throughout the next episode, they do not have the electricity connecting them.
- It is probable that it briefly held some Lightning Elemental Power after Jay purified it, but did not contain enough power of its own to maintain this without Jay channeling his power into it.
- Cole once again refers Vania as a princess instead of a queen.
- This is the fourth time this had happened, with first three being "Nyad," "Compatible," and "Distress Calls."
- When Harumi betrays the Overlord, she cuts of his left hand with her sword. However, in the next scene the Overlord appears in, his left hand is still intact, but when he says "you have failed," to Lloyd, Harumi, and Garmadon, his left hand is missing again before he grows it back with his power.
