Roy Burns is the main antagonist of Friday The 13th: A New Beginning and the overarching antagonist of Friday the 13th Part VI: Jason Lives. A paramedic in the town, he turned to murder under the alias of Jason Voorhees to murder people after the death of his son, Joey.
He was portrayed by Dick Wieand when unmasked, and Tom Morga while he was impersonating Jason.
His Evil Ranking[]
What Makes Him Close to Being Pure Evil?[]
- After the death of his son, Roy assumed the identity of Jason Voorhees to commit murders. Since he couldn't go after the man who murdered his son due to him already being arrested, he decided to take his anger out on innocent people.
- The same day after of his son’s murdered, he murdered two random greasers, Vinnie and Pete, by sticking a road flaire into Vinnie’s mouth and slitting Pete’s throat.
- Murdered a cab driver Billy by driving a axe into his head and a waitress Lana by chopping her gut with it.
- Stabbed Raymond, a random person in the woods on the guy with a machete.
- Murdered Tina and Eddie, two teens from the troubled home by gouging Tina's eyes out with garden shears and crushing Eddie’s head against a tree with a belt.
- Murdered Reggie’s brother Demon and his girlfriend Anita. He slit Anita’s throat and then taunted Demon by showing her corpse and then stabbing through the outhouse before impaling him.
- Killed a mother and son Ethel and Junior by cutting off Juniors head and stabbing Ethel in the face with a cleaver.
- He killed the remaining three troubled home kids, Jake, Robin, and Violet by stabbing them in the face, back and gut respectively and then tried to frame Tommy Jarvis for the murder.
- Murdered his paramedic partner Duke by slitting his throat due to him insulting his son (while some may say that Duke actually deserved it, it should be noted that he didn't know Joey was his son).
- Killed Matthew Letter, the runner of the home by stabbing him in the head with a railroad spike.
- Gouged out the eyes of Reggie’s grandfather George.
- Attempted to kill Pam Roberts, Reggie and Tommy Jarvis.
- Further traumatized Tommy Jarvis, causing the events of Part 6, where Jason ends up getting revived as an even more unstoppable zombie, to happen.
- While not as heinous as Jason Voorhees or Freddy Krueger, Roy has less resources than them, at least Jason after the latter became a zombie (where he would rack up a higher kill count per movie).
- Despite losing his son, it doesn’t begin to justify him in any way, since he abandoned his son and didn’t have any connection with him.
- While the novelization does imply that he was possessed by Jason's spirit, this is not confirmed in the film.
What Prevents Him from Being Pure Evil?[]
- He still had care for his son, being distraught over his death. While he abandoned him in the past, it's because Joey's mother died in some point and that made him feel unfit to take care of Joey on his own.
Trivia[]
- He and the remake Jason Voorhees are the only Friday the 13th villains to be Near Pure Evil.
