“ | I'm gonna blame the movies. | „ |
~ Mickey Altieri |
Mickey Altieri is the secondary antagonist of the 1997 slasher film Scream 2, the second installment of the Scream film series.
He was one of Sidney Prescott's best friends at college and was obsessed with movies and often filmed whatever was going on, but in reality, was actually an already active serial killer. Altieri subtly increases paranoia and suspicion when the murder spree begins with intimate conversations.
He was portrayed by Timothy Olyphant. While in-disguise, he was voiced by Roger L. Jackson. In-costume scenes as Ghostface were portrayed by Allen Robinson, Chris Durand and Lee Waddell.
His Evil Ranking[]
What Makes Him Close to Being Pure Evil?[]
- Despite being clearly certifiable, with even Mrs. Loomis feeling the need to express a justifiably low opinion of his sanity alongside Sidney calling him "psychotic" to his face, he has a functioning moral agency, and in any case, is sadistic and intelligent, evident by gaslighting Sidney into thinking Derek is his partner.
- Whilst he has plenty of comedic moments, most of them happen before the killer-reveal, and any comedy that happens after the reveal only highlights how sadistic and deranged he is.
- When Nancy Loomis talked about how they met, she mentioned that "there's only 97 active serial killers in the country today so Mickey here was quite a find, definitely one on the way, all he needed was a little guidance and nurturing", implying he was a serial killer even before the events of the film.
- He decided to help Mrs. Loomis in her killing spree just to get caught and have a trial in which he can "blame the movies", planning to become immortalized by the media and have the most talked about trial in the world.
- He stabbed Phil Stevens through the ear and killed him.
- He murdered Maureen Evans in front of an entire theater, making the audience think it was a stunt prank, just to psychologically torture her more in her final moments.
- He murdered Cici Cooper by stabbing her in the back before throwing her off a balcony.
- He tried to kill Sidney at the party and in the theater.
- He slashed Derek's arm and planted seeds of doubts in Sidney's mind so she would think he was the killer.
- He killed Officer Andrews by slashing his throat, before killing Officer Richards by bashing his head against the window several times before impaling him in the head with a pipe.
- He attacked and tried to kill Dewey Riley and Gale Weathers in a classroom alongside Mrs. Loomis.
- He stabbed Hallie McDaniel to death in front of Sidney, to signify her own curiosity got the better of her, which got Hallie killed, traumatizing Sidney.
- He gaslighted Sidney into thinking a restrained Derek was the killer only to murder him in cold blood right in front of her just so she can feel worse about his death, before taunting her about Derek and Maureen Prescott's deaths.
- According to Wes Craven, Mickey’s actions left Sidney with deep psychological scars, leaving her with trust issues and sending her into hiding for a while, as depicted in the third film.
- He shot Gale after Mrs. Loomis shot him.
- He came back to life after Mrs. Loomis seemingly killed him to try once again to kill Sidney and Gale.
What Prevents Him from Being Pure Evil?[]
- His crimes as a serial killer prior to the film aren’t given any details, meaning he fails the Heinous Standard to Roman Bridger, Jill Roberts, and Charlie Walker due to offscreen villainy.
