Princess Zipp Storm, full name Zephyrina Storm, is a female Pegasus pony and one of the main characters of My Little Pony: A New Generation and My Little Pony Generation 5. She is a princess of Zephyr Heights, Pipp Petals' older sister,[note 1] Queen Haven's eldest daughter, and the heiress to the Zephyr Heights throne.
Development and design
Zipp Storm was designed by character artist Celia Kaspar.[1] Hasbro filed a trademark for the name "Zipp Storm" with the United States Patent and Trademark Office on February 25, 2021.[2]
Depiction in A New Generation
In My Little Pony: A New Generation, Zipp first appears doing parkour and stunts on the mountains outside Zephyr Heights. She runs into Sunny Starscout and Izzy Moonbow, surprised to see an Earth pony and unicorn traveling together. When Zipp sees a pair of royal guards approaching, she quickly runs away.
Zipp meets Sunny and Izzy again when they are brought before her, her sister Pipp Petals, and their mother Queen Haven. When Sunny asks Haven questions about magic, she orders her and Izzy to be imprisoned in the castle dungeons. Zipp visits Sunny and Izzy in the dungeons and learns that unicorns have no magic. She frees them from their cell, leads them to an abandoned station for hot-air balloons, and reveals that Pegasi cannot fly - not even the royal Pegasus family as civilians believe.
Zipp teams up with Sunny and Izzy to acquire two magical crystals in an effort to bring magic back to Equestria. They steal the first - the Pegasus Crystal - from Queen Haven, but in the process, they accidentally expose Zipp's family as non-flying frauds. Zipp, Sunny, and Izzy are subsequently joined in their quest to bring back magic by Pipp and Sunny's childhood friend Hitch Trailblazer.
Zipp and her friends acquire the Unicorn Crystal in Bridlewood, but nothing happens when it is joined together with the Pegasus Crystal. Sunny returns to Maretime Bay in failure and despair, but Zipp and the others follow out of a desire to stay friends with her. Upon arriving, they get swept up in Hitch's deputy Sprout's destructive plot to wage war against unicorns and Pegasi. After Sunny succeeds in bringing the three pony races together, Zipp and her new friends happily welcome a new age of friendship and magic.
Depiction in Make Your Mark
In the hour-long special My Little Pony: Make Your Mark, Zipp notices strange occurrences surrounding the ponies' magic and investigates their cause, while simultaneously struggling to deal with her mother's pressures for her to return to Zephyr Heights and embrace her royal duties. She eventually discovers that magic is glitching due to increasing tensions between the pony races, and she and her friends work to include unicorns and Pegasi in the Earth pony festival of Maretime Bay Day.
When tensions lead to magic going haywire, Zipp and the others help to save their fellow ponies. After the problem is resolved, Zipp plucks up the courage to tell Queen Haven that she wants to stay in Maretime Bay and further investigate the mysteries of magic. Haven accepts her daughter's choice, and Zipp becomes a detective in the special's final scene.
In Izzy Does It, Zipp takes note of all the magical happenings in her friends' lives. She also notes the magical compact Pipp supposedly "gifted" Sunny and seemingly forgot about. In Growing Pains, Zipp joins Hitch and Sunny in Hitch's appraisal of Earth pony magic. She also joins Sunny in protesting Hitch wanting to remove the Earth pony Unity Crystal, and she is present when a hologram of Twilight Sparkle is projected by the crystal, warning them of a dire threat. When the Mane 5 create a tree by uniting their magic, Zipp notes that the tree's flowers look strangely familiar to her.
In Portrait of a Princess, Zipp, eager to escape the preparations for the royal portrait day, talks Pipp into sneaking away to find a special flower. After getting trapped in a cave, the two argue over Pipp's drawing attention to each other and Zipp's lie. Realizing how much Pipp was looking forward to Portrait Day, Zipp sings the song they sang together as fillies. The two reconcile, escape with the help of Pipp's fans, and arrive in time for the painting. In Ali-Conned, Zipp helps cheer Sunny up after she finds out no one cares about her causes, and she and the others reveal that they brought her dream of a community garden to life.
In The Cutie Mark Mix-Up, Zipp, Pipp, and Izzy struggle to deal with a stampede of critters in the Brighthouse. Zipp also manages to piece together the reason for Hitch and Sunny's cutie mark switch and helps them reconcile. In The Traditional Unicorn Sleep-Over, Zipp takes part in throwing a unicorn sleep-over for Izzy, and she quickly becomes suspicious of Misty. In Hoof Done It?, Zipp puts her detective skills to work in trying to find Sunny's lantern. She suspects Misty of being the thief but is convinced otherwise by Pipp. In Have You Seen This Dragon?, Zipp tries to help Hitch find Sparky, but she is unintentionally sabotaged by Izzy's own efforts. Encouraged by Sunny, she works together with the others to locate the missing baby dragon.
In the My Little Pony: Winter Wishday special, the Mane 5 each prepare for their respective holiday traditions. Zipp and Pipp rehearse for a royal Wishentine concert. Zipp joins Izzy in unveiling the Mare Stream and acts as the craft's pilot as the group travel Equestria. While visiting Hitch's Grandma Figgy, Zipp's attention is caught by a storybook, which she borrows. After visiting Bridlewood, the group travel to Zephyr Heights, where Zipp joins Pipp and Queen Haven in window shopping and later performs in the concert. When an unnatural amount of snow threatens to engulf Equestria, Zipp uses the storybook she borrowed to deduce that the unicorn Wishiehoof greeting of "Frostyshivers" is actually a spell that brings snow. After the snowfall is reversed, Zipp and her friends return to Maretime Bay, where they witness the Wishing Star passing over the Brighthouse.
In My Little Pony: Bridlewoodstock, Zipp witnesses the Lumi-Bloom alongside her friends. She helps in Pipp's plan to out together a music festival by inviting her favorite band, Electric Blue to play, offering to let them headline (unaware that the other performers were offered the same thing). During the concert, creatures known as Troggles start stealing ponies' voices, and Zipp and her friends work together to repel them.
In Top Remodel, Zipp looks over the recording she took of Twilight's message, unaware that Misty is watching. In The Jinxie Games, Zipp travels to Bridlewood with their friends to cheer on Hitch as he participates in the Field Critter Day. While there, she and Pipp discover (to their horror) that Queen Haven is romantically involved with Alphabittle. In Sunny Side Up, Zipp assists in the production of a cooking show starring Sunny and Hitch. In The Manesquerade Ball, Zipp attends the eponymous ball but only so she can investigate Alicorn magic in the palace library. When she finds that Misty has followed her, Zipp airs her suspicions and learns that Misty does not have a cutie mark. Pacified by this discovery, Zipp joins her friends in performing Sunny's unity dance.
In A Little Horse, Zipp tries her best to keep the ill Pipp resting by introducing her to her favorite book series. She also shares the sum total of her investigations with Pipp and Misty. In Missing the Mark, Zipp and her friends are led to Opaline's castle by Misty in search of the missing Sparky, and they are captured by Opaline. Zipp realizes that her suspicions of Misty were justified and angrily rejects her, though she has a change of heart when Misty frees them. She and Hitch then save the captured Sparky, and their cutie mark magic plays a vital role in helping Sunny defeat Opaline.
In Cutie Blossom Bash, Zipp and her friends bring Misty to Zephyr Heights to celebrate her getting her cutie mark, sharing how she got her own cutie mark along the way. She and Hitch work together to try to ensure the ceremony goes well, and she and her friends give Misty a private ceremony when she admits she doesn't like being the center of attention.
In Family Trees Pt. 1, Zipp pesters Misty about the odd dreams she's been having, believing it will help stop Opaline. In Family Trees Pt. 2, Zipp is present when Misty reunites with her long-lost father Alphabittle. In Father of the Bridlewood, she, Sunny and Izzy try to gain more information about Equestria's history from the unicorn Elder Flower. In Mane Smelody, Zipp and Sunny finds an old map that used to belong to Sunny's father. In Nightmare on Mane Street, Zipp takes part in the Nightmare Night celebrations. The next morning, she is present when Sparky's fire reveals that the map she and Sunny found is a map to the dragons' home, the Isle of Scaly.
In The Isle of Scaly, Zipp pilots the Marestream as the group travel to the dragons' home, narrowly avoiding a crash landing when the Hope Lantern's power suddenly weakens. Soon after, she and the others meet the dragons and their leader, Spike, who tells them of Opaline's past. After the dragons agree to ally with ponies, Zipp and the others ride them back to Equestria.
In Roots of All Evil Pt. 1, the ponies return to Maretime Bay to discover that Opaline has corrupted the Together Tree and started stealing cutie marks. Zipp goes with Pipp to defend Zephyr Heights from Opaline's next attack. In Roots of All Evil Pt. 2, Zipp and Pipp take on Opaline when she attacks Zephyr Heights, distracting her with a song and then trapping her and the dragons in a large tarp. However, Opaline quickly breaks out and takes their cutie marks. Soon after, they realize that the ponies can give power to the Together Trees, and help rally all the ponies of Equestria to sing in front of them. The ponies unity spreads through the Together Trees, purifiying Opaline's and aiding in her defeat.
In My Little Pony: Secrets of Starlight, Zipp and her friends investigate the portal that has formed in Opaline's Together Tree, which brings them to Starlight Ridge. There, they meet the Auroricorns, with Zipp quickly growing suspicious of their odd behavior. She and her friends soon learn that the Auroricorns are in the thrall of a winged snow leopard named Allura. Working together, they are able to free the Auroricorns from Allura's thrall and repel the villain from Starlight Ridge.

Zipp also appears in the 2D animated YouTube web series My Little Pony: Tell Your Tale, which is set after the events of A New Generation. She appears in the videogame My Little Pony: A Maretime Bay Adventure in a nonplayable role, though she is playable in the minigame mode once the player unlocks her.

In Issue #17, Zipp learns that Pipp inadvertently caused Milkyway to switch them, and together with their friends, they seek out Milkyway in hopes of getting her to reverse what she did. Milkyway refuses, saying that the magic can only be undone once Zipp understand the pressures of Pipp's pop star life. Zipp eventually convinces Pipp to go along with this, taking on Pipp's role as a pop star while Pipp gives her royal duties a try. In Issue #18, Zipp attempts to deal with the musician Carotang badmouthing her, but is manipulated into making herself look even worse to her fans. In the My Little Pony: Mane Event story Hair Cut for Time, Zipp and Hitch have a disagreement over their individual manecare techniques. After saving Misty from being trapped in an out-of-control bouncing ball messes up their manes, they both decide that they like their new look, and go to the movies together.
In the first issue of My Little Pony: Set Your Sail, Zipp and Hitch find pages of a popular book series buried in sand on the beach, with the word "LIAR" written on them. The two decide to investigate further. In Issue #2, Zipp's investigations are interrupted when she fears something happened to Pipp during her diplomatic trip to the Sparkling Seas. Utilizing a spell to become a Seapony, she meets with Queen Calla Lilly and her sister Princess Anemone, and learns of the history of the Sparkling Sea. She also befriends Princess Anemone, who offers to help her find Pipp. In Issue #3, Zipp notices several oddities, and confronts the sisters over it. While Calla Lilly has Zipp confined to her guest quarters for this, Anemone helps her get away, confessing that she knew all along that Pipp was taken captive by the trenchponies. They then hear Pipp broadcasting a message denouncing Calla Lilly. In Issue #4, Zipp and Anenome save the seaponies in the marketplace from earthquakes by Calla Lilly's reckless use of magic. They then set out to find Pipp and Izzy, only to get caught in another earthquake.
In the first issue of My Little Pony: The Storm of Zephyr Heights, Zipp is made acting queen of Zephyr Heights while Haven takes a vacation. After her friends arrive to help her, Zipp reminds Sunny of the poster in the abandoned station she brought Sunny and Izzy to, and requests Sunny's aid in seeking knowledge about Cloudsdale. Not long after, a massive storm suddenly hits Zephyr Heights, and the royal advisors suggest that Zipp call for an evacuation.

Zipp Storm[3] is part of the Wing Surprise[4] toyline with Opaline Arcana.[5]
Personality
Zipp is a fearless and independent thrill-seeker. Defiant of her royal lineage and responsibilities, she prefers to engage in athletic and high-flying activities like parkour, even though she is initially unable to fly. Like Sunny, Zipp wants magic to return to Equestria so that Pegasi can fly like they were originally able to, and she is even willing to defy her mother and work together with Earth ponies and unicorns to make it happen.
Zipp's research into and knowledge of Equestria's distant past, coupled with equations she uses for flight theory, suggests she also has an intellectual side. She also demonstrates a tendency to be snarky and sarcastic. Zipp's mother Queen Haven's expectations of her as the heiress to the Zephyr Heights throne causes them to have a somewhat strained relationship, but she is very close with her sister Pipp.
Zipp is far more humble than her mother or sister, insisting to Sunny and Izzy that they call her by her name rather than use her royal title.
In the Make Your Mark special, Zipp struggles with being heir to the throne of Zephyr Heights, and has trouble deciding what she really wants to do with her life. In the series itself, she dedicates herself to her newfound detective position, relishing in any chance to undergo investigations, and often using her phone to take notes.
In the Tell Your Tale shorts Zipp Gets Her Wings and Sisters Take Flight, Zipp is shown to be uncomfortable when placed in the spotlight. In Welcome to Mane Melody, she dislikes the idea of having her mane styled – though she allows Pipp to style it by the end of the short. She also demonstrates a passion for extreme sports in The Unboxing of Izzy, Alicorn Issues and Pony Partay. Both Zipp Gets Her Wings and Zipp's Yes Day show that Zipp is highly dedicated to practicing and honing her flying skills. Secret Ad-mare-er shows that she has an interest in botany, enthusiastically cultivating a venus fly trap.
The series also shows that, despite their polar opposite personalities, she and Pipp share a strong sibling bond (though Pipp tends to annoy Zipp by trying to film or take pictures of her against her will).
In The Traditional Unicorn Sleep-Over and Hoof Done It?, Zipp displays a deep distrust of Misty, quickly becoming suspicious of her for her lack of knowledge about unicorn traditions in the former, and (correctly) assuming she stole Sunny's lantern in the latter. This lessens In The Manesquerade Ball when Misty confesses to Zipp that she doesn't have a cutie mark, and fades completely after Misty turns against Opaline to help her friends in Missing the Mark.
In A Little Horse, Zipp is revealed to be a big fan of a book series known as The Chronicles of Chevalia.
