“ | And you never met my father. He was a thousand times worse. | ” |
—Argos, about his father, "Pretension" |
Colt Fathom was a posthumous antagonist of Miraculous: Tales of Ladybug & Cat Noir. He was an American billionaire, the father of Félix Fathom, and the husband of aristocrat Lady Amélie Graham de Vanily.[1]
In "Representation", it is revealed that Colt was a temporary Peacock Miraculous holder, having been lent the brooch for a one-time use by his co-brother-in-law, Gabriel Agreste in exchange for the employment of one of his best men. He used his own feelings of jealousy towards Gabriel and Émilie to create his son Félix and have Amélie pregnant with him. However, after using the damaged Peacock Miraculous, Colt developed the same illness as his sister-in-law and ending up passing away not long after she became comatose.
Appearance[]
Physical appearance[]
If Félix and Kagami's depiction of Colt's physical appearance is accurate, then it's safe to say that he had a big bushy moustache.
Civilian attire[]
If Félix and Kagami's depiction of Colt's civilian attire is accurate, then it's safe to say that he wore a brown cowboy hat with a dark brown band around the crown and a vest he kept unbuttoned. He also wore a ring on his left ring finger.
Peacock Miraculous holder[]
If Félix and Kagami's depiction of Colt as a Peacock Miraculous holder is accurate, then it's safe to say that he would have had a blue suit and a blue cowboy hat with the Peacock Miraculous attached to the band.
Personality[]
According to Félix, his father was a very unlikable individual that used to control his own son all the time, being even worse than Gabriel and Tomoe when it came to raising him.
As shown in "Representation", according to the play portrayed by Kagami and Félix, Colt was a rich but cruel "warlord", and Amélie was forced to marry him by her parents to satisfy them. Like his in-laws, he also wanted a child to be the heir of their wealth and noble lineage. Despite very little being known about him, it was shown that he possessed an immense sense of pride, thinking that he and his wife alone deserved the best and looked down upon those he considered inferior, like Émilie (who had traded her "kingdom" for an "inferior tailor") and Gabriel (because of his birth status). That sense of pride eventually led to him to feel an immense jealousy towards his sister-in-law and her husband for being able to conceive a son while he and Amélie were unsuccessful.
After using the Peacock Miraculous to create Félix, Colt didn't feel any love for him and, after realizing the process had caused him to develop an illness that would end up killing him, he developed a deep hatred towards Félix, seeing him as the reason for his condition. Therefore, he started controlling him completely and took away anything that gave his son any sort of happiness. Just like Gabriel and Chloé, he never took responsibility for himself and instead blamed others for his actions and their outcomes.
Colt also possessed a great dislike for sorcery. Even with Gabriel willing to give him a way to have a child using the Peacock Miraculous, he was very snob about it, finding the idea of using magic disgusting. He was even hesitate to touch Amélie's pregnant belly after using it. All in which were also part of the reasons why he came to hate his own son.
Abilities[]
As a civilian[]
Colt was a very talented businessman, which allowed him to acquire a great fortune and status to satisfy his thirst for power. It seemed that part of his business activities were oriented towards war, particularly in military weapon construction and potentially mercenaryism.
As a Peacock Miraculous holder[]
The Peacock Miraculous granted him enhanced physical abilities, a hand fan as his tool, and Amokization as her superpower, allowing him to manifest emotions of himself or others into physical form to create sentimonsters. After amokizing his ring to create his son, he used it to physically, bodily, and telepathically abuse and control Félix until his death.
Relationships[]
Amélie Graham de Vanily[]
Not much is known about Colt's relationship with his wife. However in "Representation", according to her son Félix, Colt married Amélie because her parents arranged it, as they wanted her to marry an affluent man who came from a high position of status, unlike her sister Émilie, who married Gabriel, a low-class tailor who was beneath her social standing. Amélie only accepted his hand to please them, and in Félix's play, Colt was seen excited by his marriage, unlike Amélie, however it was unclear if he felt any love for his wife. As they were unable to have children, Colt used the Peacock Miraculous to get his wife pregnant with Félix. It is unknown if she ever knew about his abuse towards their son. It's also implied that Colt was abusive towards Amélie as Félix narrated, "if he became a fond of anyone who displeases his father", and it showed an arm of a stuffed bunny being ripped and in "Gabriel Agreste", Amélie also wore a bunny mask in the party.
Félix Fathom[]
It was revealed that Colt passed away around the same time his sister-in-law, Émilie, fell into a coma, due to using the broken Peacock Miraculous and the Agrestes didn't attend his funeral.
However, in "Pretension", while protecting Kagami from her akumatized mother, he mentioned to her that his father was "a thousand times worse" than Tomoe is to her.
In "Representation", through a play, Félix revealed to Marinette that his father didn't love him. His father created him from his jealousy towards Émilie and Gabriel, and blamed Félix for his worsening illness from using the damaged Peacock Miraculous. Colt was abusive towards Félix, calling him a "monster", actively using his Amokized ring to control Félix like a puppet and destroying anything that would make Félix happy. During one of these moments, Colt slammed his fist against the wall with enough pressure to make it crack and cause Félix pain. When Colt passed away, Félix took the ring, gaining his freedom and motivating him to free oppressed people like Adrien and Kagami from their controlling and abusive parents.
Gabriel Agreste[]
In "Representation", through a play, it's revealed that Colt despised and looked down on Gabriel for his common background; calling him the inferior tailor Émilie choose to give up her rank, wealth, and family for. When Colt heard Gabriel and Émilie were able to conceive their son, Adrien, he seethed and even confronted Gabriel as he believed he and Amélie were the ones who truly deserved a child, not the other way around. Émilie had Gabriel lent the Peacock Miraculous for her sister and brother-in-law to have a child. Gabriel gave Colt the Miraculous in exchange for his best man - Placide I.T. - to protect his child. At first, Colt refused, but eventually used it to create Félix out of his jealousy.
Émilie Agreste[]
In "Representation", through a play, it's revealed that Colt detested Émilie and called her the "curious and futile sister" who'd gave up her rank, wealth, and family to marry Gabriel, the "inferior tailor". He was jealous that Émilie and Gabriel were able to conceive Adrien before he and Amélie could conceive Félix.
Adrien Agreste[]
Not much is revealed on the relationship between Colt and Adrien, though the latter apologized to Félix for not being able to attend the former's funeral, due to Émilie falling into a coma around the same time. It is possible that Colt despised his nephew as much as his son, but never showed that hatred when they interacted.
Mr. and Mrs. Graham de Vanily[]
Through a play in "Representation", because of his wealth and status, Amélie's parents arranged their marriage and also wanted the two to have a child. Due to his wife's infertility, they were given the best medical treatments by them, but nothing worked.
Placide I.T.[]
Though a play in "Representation", Placide I.T. worked for Colt and was his best man before his employment was traded to Gabriel Agreste in exchange for being lent the Peacock Miraculous to create a child for himself.
Duusu[]
Though a play in "Representation", despite Colt's disdain for sorcery, he temporary used her power to create Félix out of his jealousy. However, due to the Peacock Miraculous being broken at the time, it slowly took its toll on Colt.
It is possible that Colt blamed Duusu as much as he blamed Félix for his illness. But since he only had the Peacock Miraculous temporarily, he was unable use it to mistreat her.
