Amokization has been a featured article on the front page. This article is related to the Peacock Miraculous.

Oh, amok! Let our thirst for truth take shape!

Argos, "Representation"

Amokization is the special superpower granted by the Peacock Miraculous to its owner.

Description[]

This superpower allows the user to manifest a person's emotions into a physical form, a Sentimonster.[1]

Miraculous owner[]

Amokization

Mayura creates an Amok.

The Peacock Miraculous holder takes a feather from the Hand Fan and clasps it in their hand to charge it with magical power. The magically charged feather is known as an Amok,[2] which is then sent out and floats away to the intended individual.

Hack-San (37)

Shadow Moth manifesting Hack-San from his own emotions.

Once the Amok reaches that person, it will infuse itself into and inhabit an object belonging to that person. Upon the Amok making contact with the object and disappearing into it, a telepathic connection is established between the recipient and the Peacock Miraculous owner. After the target accepts the Miraculous owners offer of assistance, the power is activated and the Peacock Miraculous owner manifests a Sentimonster from the target's emotions via a magical dark-blue ether that appears next to the Amok recipient. The Peacock Miraculous owner does also have the option of having the Amok inhabit an object in their own possession and manifesting their own emotions.

The Sentimonster will obey whomever is in possession of the object containing its Amok, and will possess an appearance and powers that correspond to the needs, desires, and abilities of the Amok recipient, allowing them to best serve and support their master.

In "Representation", an Amok can inhabit multiple objects, if those objects are pieces of a whole, and separating the pieces will not have any negative consequences on the Sentimonster. In the event that multiple people each possess one of the pieces of the Amok object, then both/all of them will have the ability to command the Sentimonster. One Amok holder can even overwrite a command previously given by another Amok holder, referred to as a "counter-order", in the case of Émilie and Gabriel where he is alive while she is in a coma therefore not giving any orders it was more like Adrien had partial freedom. But it's unknown if the same will work if the sentimonster has one piece while someone else has the other. Unlike the others, Adrien was created by the feelings of two people not just one meaning that similar to multiply akumatizations, sentimonsters can be made out of the feelings of multiple people as long as they share the same feeling.

Protection 180

Nathalie encouraging Adrien to call Marinette to their date on his house, even while Gabriel has the other part of the amok.

The user of the Peacock Miraculous can revoke the Amok, causing the feather to exit the objects, thus destroying/releasing the Sentimonster from existence. The Peacock Miraculous owner simply needs to snap their fingers. They can also feel a sentimonster(s) presence when they're close or harmed, the Peacock Miraculous holder can even feel the emotion(s) the sentimonster(s) feel as seen in "Feast".

Similar to how Rena Rouge and Volpina can communicate through their illusions, the Peacock Miraculous holders can communicate through their Sentimonsters.

Monster Destruction

Mayura destroying/releasing Ladybug Sentimonster from existence.

The Peacock Miraculous owner is limited to only one Amok at a time and can thus only manifest one Sentimonster at a time. The Peacock Miraculous owner would first have to release the current Sentimonster from existence before they could create a new one, curiously while the Peacock Miraculous holder is limited to only one Sentimonster at a time under normal circumstances, the holder can actually release more than one Sentimonster at the same time, as shown in "Optigami" when Shadow Moth snapped both Sentinino and Optigami at once. An additional Sentimonster can be created if the Peacock Miraculous is used by a different holder,[3] or if the user creates a sentimonster with the ability to duplicate Amoks[4] or if the Butterfly Miraculous is unified and used to create a Kamikotized/Akumatized champion with the ability to duplicate Amoks. However, Adrien, revealed to be a Sentimonster in "Representation", must have been created by Émilie Agreste, and almost definitely would be the reason why she passed away.

Duusu[]

The effects of Duusu's Amokization is unknown, but it would most certainly be unconstrained and result in some kind of catastrophe. Sentimonsters may appear all over the place, though that may be the only possible explanation.

Weaknesses[]

The biggest weakness of this power is that a Sentimonster will obey the commands of whomever is in possession of the object containing the Amok, no matter who it is. Even if the person in possession of the Amok object is an enemy of the Peacock Miraculous holder, or an enemy of the Amok recipient whose emotions the Sentimonster was manifested from, the Sentimonster will still obey every order without question or hesitation. Alternatively, if the person in possession of the Amok object is ignorant of their situation, then the Sentimonster can still defy them and work against them, such as the case with Monarch and Cat Noir. Though Monarch is in possession of Cat Noir's Amok, he doesn't know that Cat Noir is actually his son, and is therefore ignorant of the fact that he can control the hero.

And yet, it isn't completely sure how far the control the recipient has over the creature seen in various episodes a holder no matter how complex the creature is as long as the two are close enough and as long as the recipient has the amokitized object they can control the creature's physical actions but emotional actions like feelings is unclear. Such as with Adrien despite Gabriel's actions to keep his son physically away from Marinette, he didn't do anything in the terms of using his amok to change Adrien's feelings towards her, maybe because he thought he couldn't, Nathalie would just counteracts his orders or he didn't need to.

Miraculous World - Shanghai Special 1139

Cat Noir (Adrien) remained even after Hawk Moth (Gabriel) was eradicated by YanLuoShi.

If the object containing the Amok is broken/damaged/destroyed, the Amok will be released and the Sentimonster will disappear into nothingness. Even the Miraculous Ladybug cannot restore a Sentimonster who’s been released from existence. However, it is implied in "Representation" that it takes a certain amount of damage in order for the Amok to be released. The ring containing Félix's Amok was apparently cracked at some point in the past, but the Amok was not released and Félix did not disappear, he apparently did collapse though. It should be noted that in "Cat Blanc" or "Miraculous Shanghai", Adrien didn't disappear, even after Gabriel, and by extension, the ring containing his Amok were destroyed by the Mega Cataclysm or YanLuoShi, this suggests that if the Amok object is comprised of multiple pieces, then both must be put back together and then breaking/damaging/destroying it as a single object in order for the Amok to be released, and that the Sentimonster will continue to live, even in the event that one piece is destroyed but the other isn't. They can be brought back by the restoration superpower of the Ladybug Miraculous if their amokizated object is left intact.

Feast 102

A sentimonster created from bad emotions.

As seen in "Feast", the Peacock Miraculous holder must be careful with the emotions they're working with during the manifestation of a sentimonster, as the sentimonster will reflect those emotions; Wang Fu just tried to make a small, friendly companion to fetch him some snacks from the kitchen, but his intense hunger combined with the anger he felt toward the Miraculouses, resulting in his sentimonster being very different from what he envisioned, it was a violent and ravenous beast that devoured everything in its path and had an insatiable hunger for the Miraculouses specifically. The sentimonster ended up destroying the Order of the Guardians.

The user of Amokization must have a good memory of remember where and what the object the amok hides in looks like because if they forget then, that the sentimonster is freed to be controlled by anyone.

Similar to Kamikozation/Akumatization, if two Peacock Miraculous holders are fighting against each other outside of their amokizited objects controlling their creations they would be evenly matched being able to create and destroy their sentimonsters.

DC S01EP10 (389)

Cat Noir affected by Dark Cupid's power.

As shown in several episodes, Sentimonsters are vulnerable to the powers of the other Miraculouses; such as when Banana Boom-Boom was immobilized by the power of Venom in "Queen Banana", or when Adrien was Akumatized in "Ephemeral". Sentimonsters can also be affected by the powers of akumatized villains, such as when Cat Noir was transformed by Reflekta's cloning power, or when he was made hateful by Dark Cupid's arrows of hate.

Seemingly the holder must take into consideration where they want/need their creations to be because if not there may be complications such as when both Agrestes and Vanilies created Adrien and Felix as growing fetuses inside their respective mothers' womb outside of the jewel being damaged neither didn't consider what else could go wrong.

Resistance can cancel out the effects of Amokization.

In "Miraculous Paris", it is revealed that using the special superpower uses vital energy from the Kwamis, but also from the miraculous holder. It's one thing for an adult holder, but for an underage holder, who is less physically and mentally capable of handling the strain, there is a security system in place that limits them to only using their special power once and causes them to detransform before it becomes dangerous. However, using the Miraculous for evil overrides the limiter, allowing an underage holder to use their powers to their full potential. As previously stated, a younger holder cannot handle the strain; dark veins of corruption will gradually spread across their body, and they will inevitably be destroyed.

Amokized Sentimonsters[]

For a complete list of Amokization uses, see Sentimonster.

Giphy (2)

A Sentimonster being manifested.

Sentimonsters aren't only magical embodiments of emotions, but actual living beings that are controlled by the one who possesses the object containing their Amok. If the Sentimonster gets ahold of the Amoktized object, then they become able to act of their own free will. The more elaborate they are, the more sapient they become, with an example being the the Sentimonster in the likeness of Ladybug, who, once she got her freedom, decided to help the real Ladybug and Cat Noir defeat Mayura.

Sentimonsters can come in a very wide variety in terms of physical appearance and abilities. They can take the form of animals, anthropomorphic objects, even incredibly realistic lookalikes of real people, and much more. They can also come in a wide range of sizes; some might be gigantic, bigger than a tall building. Others might be tiny, small enough to fit in the palm of ones hand.

According to Thomas Astruc, "Sentimonster" is not a species, it is a "status" one may have.[5] The nature of the manifested emotion ultimately depends on what it is made to be. If a Sentimonster is made to be human, then it is just as real and human as anyone else.[6] A human Sentimonster can even be a Miraculous holder; they can even use the Peacock Miraculous to create their own Sentimonsters, as seen with Félix in "Emotion". Sentimonsters are not even necessarily living beings, it all depends on how they were conceived during the creation process.[7]

Sentimonsters can become dormant for centuries, and only a Peacock Miraculous owner has the power to revive or finally destroy a dormant Sentimonster. Furthermore, it is revealed in "Representation", that an Amok can remain in the object even after the Peacock Miraculous holder who used it and/or the recipient of said amok have died/passed away, therefore the resulting Sentimonster will continue to live and exist as well.

Kuro Neko - Cataclysm

Cataclysm being used on a Sentimonster.

A Sentimonster cannot be destroyed by the Cataclysm, but it can be severely damaged. Another effect is that the Sentimonster gets out of control and becomes berserk. The Amok can still be retrieved by the wielder if this happens, though. But it's unknown what happens if the Cataclysm was used more than once or to a stronger extent.

A Sentimonster can also be formed to give powers related to themselves to the holder of their amok, like in Optigami, where the titular sentimonster gives Natalie the ability to see what they see including Kwamis, and also Red Moon, who gives Argos the power to make anyone disappear/reappear in Red Moon’s Light by snapping his fingers in "Emotion".

In order to defeat a Sentimonster without the Peacock Miraculous, the object containing the Amok must be broken, releasing the Amok and causing the Sentimonster to disappear. The Ladybug Miraculous owner must purify the Amok in the same way they purify Akumas.

Trivia[]

  • The name Sentimonster is a portmanteau of "sentiment", a synonym for feelings, and "monster", hinting towards the fact that Sentimonsters are monsters formed by emotions.
  • This is the third Miraculous superpower to have a cancellation phrase, the first being, "Mirage" and followed by "Shell-ter".
  • The Peacock and Butterfly Miraculouses have rather similar powers.
    • Both allows the user to charge small things with magic to infect objects of specific people and telepathic communication with them.
      • Both create a light mask of their respective animal when communicating.
    • They are also the only two known superpowers which the user does not need to say the superpower's name to activate it.
    • Interestingly, both Miraculouses take the form of brooches, which may cast light on the fact that they have such similar powers.
    • However, even if possessing similar powers, they do have some differences:
      • The Butterfly Miraculous's power of Kamikotization cannot be used on the wielder (unless they renounce it), unlike the Peacock that can manifest the wielder's own emotions.
      • Unlike Kamikotization, Amokization can infect an object that's been destroyed, although it is still possible to damage it further to release the Amok.
      • Unlike Kamikotization, the Sentimonster can only be controlled by the one who possesses the object containing the Amok, while the power to control empowered champions belongs to the Butterfly Miraculous owner.
      • While one amok can't be shared among multiple sentimonsters the same way, an akuma can be shared among multiple champions.
        • However, it can manifest the emotions of multiple people mashed into one single sentimonster.
      • And, unlike Kamikotization that adopts a new name when used for evil (Akumatization), Amokization is still called the same, as its power to embody emotions is rather neutral.
        • Just like the Butterfly Miraculous owner can create heroes as well as villains, the Peacock Miraculous owner can manifest good and evil Sentimonsters.
        • Just like Akumatized villains can turn against the Butterfly Miraculous owner, Sentimonsters can turn against the Peacock Miraculous owner or the one that was controlling them, as long they acquire the object containing their Amok.
  • Because Sentimonsters are living emotions manifested into solid form, they can also be Akumatized, as seen in "Feast". As such, Amokization can fuse itself with Akumatization to create a hybrid mask.
    • Nathalie said that the Sentimonster was ancient and old expressing doubt that she'd be able to control it meaning that depending on how strong a Sentimonster is and the level of experience their creator or new controller has the Peacock Miraculous holder could have a hard time controlling it at least not without help.
  • A Sentimonster is supposed to represent the emotions and desires of the Amokized person.
    • For example, despite the fact that Master Fu manifested the Dormant Sentimonster to just get him some food, his immense hunger and hatred for the Miraculous caused the Sentimonster to become extremely violent and it attempted to swallow all of the Miraculous.
    • Another example is when Mayura manifested Ladybug. Despite the fact that she created the Sentimonster to deceive and fight the real Ladybug and Cat Noir, her dedication and love for Gabriel made the Sentimonster have a very non-violent disposition, and when it got possession of its own Amokized object it decided to help Ladybug and Cat Noir.
  • According to an official book of ambiguous canon, the Peacock's superpower is actually named Avatar.
    • This is likely untrue, as the book is filled with mistakes.
  • "Feast" and "Optigami" reveal that multiple Amoks can be created/exist at the same time, but only one can be created per owner. Optigami and Sentialec were able to exist at the same time as the former was created by Mayura and the latter by Shadow Moth. Though Shadow Moth dispelled Sentialec in order to create Sentinino.
    • An Ancient Chinese Peacock Miraculous holder is shown in the Miraculous spellbook in an illustration surrounded by multiple Sentimonsters, implying that it is possible for the same user to create multiple sentimonsters, but it could also be an example of the types that can be created.
  • Since Sentimonsters are real creatures, which can also become a real person depending on the feeling through which they were created, Amokization can be regarded as one of the most powerful superpowers, as the Peacock Miraculous holder can actually create life.
    • Further supporting this is the fact that Amokization can create replicas of the Miraculous jewelry and tools that function almost identically to the real ones, provided the Sentimonster is modeled on a known Miraculous holder.
      • In "Ladybug", Ladybug found that the superpower of the Peacock Miraculous can be even more cruel than that of the Butterfly Miraculous when used for evil. This is correct because removing the Amok actually results in the Sentimonster being killed which, depending on the complexity of its construction, technically counts as Murder.
      • But since sentimonsters don't abide by any set of physical laws or rules as it is suppose to be for real live humans, except for the rules the holder or recipient sets for them, it's technically not illegal for a sentimonster to be killed. But the good users of this Peacock Miraculous ability or the recipients most likely revoke them as a last resort (as an act of mercy, acceptance or understanding) to stop their creations from being used so cruelly or if too dangerous.
        • Nor Gabriel despite having the Peacock Miraculous fixed, he didn't use it to create one of Émilie knowing what that would do him and Adrien as well as fear that it may reveal his plans or identity.
        • Such as Rhythm in "Kuro Neko", as she got the titular sentimonster to replace the cat she lost but realized she could not replace her first pet.
        • As mentioned by Felix in "Emotion", when he regretted creating Red Moon out of so much anger and hate.
        • This is addressed in "Pretension" by Felix when he explains to Kagami that if someone creates a living being, they are responsible for it. Felix was so reluctant to create a living being only to control and destroy it that he refuse to create another sentimonster after Red Moon.
  • Similarly to Akumatization, the victim doesn't have to hold the amokized object when being amokized, as long as they have a connection with it, as seen in "Mayura" and "Gabriel Agreste".
  • In "Representation", the magical feather and amok had a lighter shade of blue. This can indicate that the colour change, depending on it's Miraculous holder uses it for good or evil.
