The Uni-Mind was a link between the minds of the remaining Eternals and the Celestial Tiamut to draw their collective power and focus it into a single entity.
History[]
In order to stop, or at least delay, the Emergence, a method must be devised for Eternals to share their power to have a chance of doing so. Observing that Deviants can absorb Eternals' energy, Phastos figured Eternals could also absorb each other's energy. He constructed bracelets which shut down an Eternal's regeneration process, freeing up their cosmic energy for sharing, allowing one of them to become immensely powerful. He called the resulting configuration the Uni-Mind. The term wasn't received warmly by the others, and Kingo suggested the term "Brainstorm" instead, though Phastos asserted his right as the inventor to call the concept whatever he wants.[1]
Tiamut's Emergence[]
Phastos was close to figuring out the Uni-Mind when Ikaris destroyed his workspace. Following this, he asked Sersi for her Celestial Communication Sphere, thinking its connection between her and Arishem the Judge could be repurposed to connect the Eternals instead and activate the Uni-Mind. He then refashioned the sphere into bracelets distributed to Druig, Makkari, himself, Sersi, and Thena.
At the Emergence point on the Indian Ocean, Druig attempted to call on the Uni-Mind with the other bracelet wearers to put Tiamut to sleep, but he was momentarily disabled by Ikaris. It then fell on Sersi to do it, though using her powers meant killing the Celestial instead. Ikaris was unable to kill her because of his lingering feelings, so Sersi was able to activate the Uni-Mind: not just with the bracelet wearers, but also with Ikaris, Sprite, and Tiamut himself. On her own, Sersi was able to transmute a chunk of Tiamut's rising hand, though with the Uni-Mind she was able to transmute the entire Celestial.
After the failed Emergence, Sersi still had some leftover energy remaining from the link. She used it to turn Sprite into a regular human as per the latter's deepest desires.[1]
Capabilities[]
Eternals linked with the Uni-Mind gain golden lines and geometric patterns outlining their bodies. They begin to float mid-air, and golden power lines connect them to the recipient. The recipient of all that power has their abilities amplified to levels capable of affecting immensely powerful beings such as Celestials about to be born, however, this is only the case due to Tiamut himself joining the Uni-Mind to give it enough power to kill him.[1]
Trivia[]
- In the comics, the Uni-Mind is a personification of the combination of all of the Eternals' free will and intelligence. It was made of light and could be joined by other species, including humans, safely, and could only be summoned by the Prime Eternal.
