"Well, it's no Four Seasons."
"Well, as safe houses go, it's not bad."
―Antoine Triplett and John Garrett[src]

The S.H.I.E.L.D. Safe Houses are a series of secure locations maintained by S.H.I.E.L.D. and located in different cities around the world designed to provide a hideout for agents during their missions.

Cairo Safehouse[]

"Cairo had thousand thread count sheets with that sateen finish."
―Antoine Triplett[src]

John Garrett and Antoine Triplett visited one of S.H.I.E.L.D. safehouses in Cairo during one of their missions. This particular safehouse impressed the agents, later comparing it to the one in Sydney, as Cairo's safehouse even had luxury thousand-thread-count sheets, with a sateen finish.[1]

Phuket Safehouse[]

"Phuket didn't even have mattresses."
―John Garrett[src]

S.H.I.E.L.D. agents John Garrett and Antoine Triplett visited one of S.H.I.E.L.D. safehouses in Phuket during one of their missions. This particular safehouse badly impressed the agents, later comparing it to the one in Sydney, as Phuket's safehouse did not even have mattresses.[1]

Sydney Safehouse[]

"I take it you've all read Agent Garrett's latest report?"
"The hit on the safe house. Mr. Peterson's alive and kicking."
―Phil Coulson and Jasper Sitwell[src]

John Garrett and Antoine Triplett entered one of S.H.I.E.L.D. safehouses in Sydney, with Triplett noticing that it was not the Four Seasons. Garrett asserted it was a good safehouse, like the one in Phuket did not have mattresses, though the one in Cairo even had luxury sheets. Garrett ordered Triplett to contact Phil Coulson to study a list of potential candidates to be the Clairvoyant taken from the subjects rejected off the Index.

Deathlok-Electrocuted

Deathlok being stopped during his attack

Before they could contact Coulson, Deathlok breached the safehouse, and both agents shot him with regular weapons and a Taser Projectile Launcher. The taser rounds managed to stop him, and Triplett was about to shoot him with an I.C.E.R. in order to knock him unconscious. The metal plates under Deathlok's skin prevented the dendrotoxin from penetrating his system, and he removed the taser projectiles from his body. Seeing himself cornered, Deathlok escaped, jumping through the ceiling of the safehouse.[1]

European Safehouse[]

Agent 33 was dragged from a European safehouse by Sunil Bakshi[2] to be brainwashed by Daniel Whitehall. When Phil Coulson went there to recruit Palamas, he found her gone and realized that S.H.I.E.L.D. and HYDRA were attempting to recruit the same people.[3]

Bruges Safehouse[]

Beckers3-AFH

Julien Beckers betraying Noelle Walters

"Why would HYDRA be targeting one of their own operatives?"
"We've been played. Get May on the line. They need to reroute to our safe house in Bruges."
―Alphonso Mackenzie and Phil Coulson[src]

Director Phil Coulson of S.H.I.E.L.D. ordered a team led by Noelle Walters to find Julien Beckers and protect him from a HYDRA mercenary team led by Marcus Scarlotti, as Coulson was led to believe that Beckers was Scarlotti's next target following an attack against the United Nations Headquarters. Walters arrived at the S.H.I.E.L.D. Safe House in Bruges, finding Beckers already there. Surprised as many of her agents had been unsuccessfully searching for him, Walters asked Beckers how he found the place. Beckers had followed some of her agents, whose bodies were on the ground in another room, as Scarlotti had already killed them.

However, before she could react, Walters was disarmed by Scarlotti and his mercenaries, and left by Beckers Walters to the mercy of Scarlotti, who intended to kill her slowly. Walters resisted, head-butting him, and Scarlotti regretted having to kill her quickly. Scarlotti stabbed Walters with a Splinter Bomb. She promised that HYDRA would never defeat S.H.I.E.L.D. while the weapon petrified and disintegrated her body.

Lance Hunter entered the safehouse as a distraction in order to buy some time for Melinda May and Bobbi Morse, who needed 90 seconds to take positions and attack the safe house. Hunter offered the mercenaries a drink and offered his services as a fellow mercenary while Scarlotti and his men pointed their guns at him.

Scarlotti vs May

Hunter revealed that he knew the exact locations of two S.H.I.E.L.D. agents, before confessing he was just distracting them. Morse and May crashed through the windows, and while Hunter and Morse fought the mercenaries, May went on to chase Scarlotti, who tried to escape from the ambush.

Scarlotti was cornered in a room and disarmed May with his Rope Dart Knife to confront her. Scarlotti skillfully used his weapon against May, but a bad move gave May some advantage, as she was able to break the tip of the weapon and use it as a knife against him. Scarlotti, confident that he would defeat May, started to choke her with the chain of the weapon, but she was able to turn the tide and use the chain to trap him, knocking him unconscious.

Meanwhile, Morse and Hunter coordinated themselves in fighting the rest of mercenaries, defeating them one by one. Hunter saved Morse's life by kicking one of the mercenaries in the path of a Splinter Bomb that had been thrown to Morse. Morse thanked him for saving her life. Once all the mercenaries had been killed or defeated, May called Coulson at the Playground, informing him that six agents had died in the mission. Coulson then asked her to get home safe.

Hunter prepared his belongings to leave S.H.I.E.L.D., due to the discomfort of having to work with his ex-wife, acknowledging that S.H.I.E.L.D. had always been Morse's place instead of his. Morse explained that S.H.I.E.L.D. was not like before anymore, so she was still trying to find her own place. Morse said her goodbyes reminding him not to die, something they used to tell each other, but as she left the room, she also told him to stay if that is what he wanted.

May, Hunter, and Morse waited at the safehouse for the arrival of Glenn Talbot and his soldiers, who had already arrested Beckers at the border, and proceeded to take the mercenaries into custody. Talbot, burying the hatchet against S.H.I.E.L.D., gave his condolences for the lost of the six agents.[4]

Billy Koenig's Updates[]

Sam and Billy Koenig saved Raina from a kidnapping attempt by HYDRA operatives, and took her to the S.H.I.E.L.D. Safe House in Vancouver. Billy contacted Phil Coulson, who was in the Bus traveling to Puerto Rico, in order to inform him of HYDRA's attempt to kidnap Raina. Billy assured the HYDRA operatives were lead by a woman who looked exactly like Melinda May, except for a huge facial-scar over her left eye.

Coulson explained that the woman was Agent 33, who was wearing a Photostatic Veil when the real May electrocuted her in the face, making the veil to become permanently attached. Sam interrupted Billy to claim that May's action was "badass", but Billy reprimanded him for the interruption. Coulson asked Billy to clarify if HYDRA intended to kidnap Raina instead of killing her, and Koenig assured there were at least four two-man HYDRA teams in surveillance mode, so the kidnapping was the most plausible explanation. Koenig also pointed out that Agent 33 specifically said that Daniel Whitehall wanted to talk to Raina.

Billy told Coulson it was the first sighting they had of HYDRA since Coulson allowed Raina to escape on her own, and Coulson decided to send an extraction team headed by Agent May. Sam was excited to hear that May was coming, and Coulson ended the communication.[5]

Escaping the Safe House[]

Sam Koenig went to the streets of Vancouver in order to bait some of the HYDRA operatives that were searching for Raina. One of these operatives followed Koenig but was easily knocked out by Lance Hunter. Meanwhile, Melinda May found two operatives, and dispatched them using an I.C.E.R. to grab their van.

Inside the S.H.I.E.L.D. Safe House, Billy Koenig held Raina, and quickly grabbed his gun as someone knocked the door, given him and his brother Sam had a special knock to identify themselves. Skye identified herself using her S.H.I.E.L.D. Lanyard, and told both Koenig and Raina they needed to abandon the safe house. Agent 33 ambushed them in the hallway, and Skye confronted her while Koenig took Raina through the stairs. Skye and Agent 33 fought on the hallway in a very close fight, as neither of the women was able to defeat the other. They continued their fight inside the safe house, where Skye offered to help Agent 33 if she stood down.

Agent 33 seized that opportunity to corner Skye and grab her handgun, but Lance Hunter arrived and tackled Agent 33, knocking her down. Hunter explained that more HYDRA operatives were coming, but was shocked to see Agent 33's face. He compared it to the Koenigs, which he considered to be creepy, at least until she saw Agent 33's similarity with May.Skye ordered Hunter to contact Phil Coulson to inform him that they retrieved Raina, and they left the safe house leaving Agent 33 behind.[5]
