- "Toshiro has the weapons from the U.N. attack, so we have two options. One, firefight. Surprise them, take down as many as we can before they bring out the heavy artillery."
"And option two? Just to hear it."
"I use my HYDRA cover, a cover that could be blown." - âMelinda May, Lance Hunter and Bobbi Morse[src]
The Infiltration into Toshiro Mori's Estate was a failed attempt by Bobbi Morse to use her cover as a HYDRA agent and extract information from Toshiro Mori about the Splinter Bomb.
Background[]
- "The bodies just disintegrate. I saw references to this weapon in HYDRA's lab. Yeah, sent from their demolitions expert, uh... Toshiro..."
"Toshiro Mori. I've crossed paths with him before. He has a lab in Okinawa."
"Good. Then that's where you're going." - âJemma Simmons, Bobbi Morse and Phil Coulson[src]
The United Nations assembly was attacked by mercenaries led by Marcus Scarlotti. Though hired by HYDRA, the mercenaries claimed that they were S.H.I.E.L.D. agents. The main weapon used by them were Splinter Bombs; with them, they killed Italian representative Adamo Dioli and attempted to murder Glenn Talbot.[5]
Jemma Simmons recognized the weapon from a hard drive stolen from HYDRA Laboratories when Bobbi Morse, who was there undercover as the head of security, helped her to escape the facility;[6] Director Phil Coulson sent Morse, Melinda May, and Lance Hunter to see if they could obtain information from Toshiro Mori.
Morse, despite the risk that her HYDRA cover had been blown, infiltrated the estate of Toshiro Mori. She sat to talk with Mori to get him to reveal information about his invention of the Splinter Bomb, and give the information to S.H.I.E.L.D..
As Morse had her conversation, Agents Lance Hunter and Melinda May watched from secret cameras, while Hunter discussed his previous marriage to Morse, to May's annoyance.[5]
Infiltration[]
- "I know Toshiro. The best way to get him to leak intel is to get him bragging."
- âBobbi Morse[src]
Bobbi Morse kept calm when the conversation went wrong and Toshiro Mori reveals that he has heard rumors of her having betrayed HYDRA and was ousted as a S.H.I.E.L.D. double agent. Morse simply replied that all HYDRA agents are secretly S.H.I.E.L.D. and that Mori was mistaken. Noticing that something was wrong, Lance Hunter and Melinda May went to help her.
Morse teased some information from him about Julien Beckers, but the conversation continued to get tenser. Mori suddenly attempted to kill her, not believing her excuse, and called some other HYDRA agents he had hiding in his estate to take out Morse. Morse easily defeated Mori and proceeded to take on the agents.
She was nearly caught off guard, but Hunter and May arrived in time to kill the last HYDRA agent, who was about to shoot Morse. Morse insisted that she knew about that agent, and her and Hunter had a small argument. Hunter told her that Mori's men received video footage from HYDRA Laboratories showing her betrayal. During their brief spat, they both noticed Mori stirring on the floor, about to make an attempt on Morse again, but they both shot him dead without even looking and continued their arguing.[5]
Aftermath[]
- "Toshiro said they were going after Beckers. Recognize the name?"
"Yeah, Julien Beckers, Belgian Foreign Affairs Minister."
"The guy who's been keeping the peace?"
"If Scarlotti's team takes out Beckers, even the neutral U.N. countries are gonna fall in line with Senator Ward's proposal." - âMelinda May, Bobbi Morse and Lance Hunter[src]
S.H.I.E.L.D. discovered that Marcus Scarlotti sought Julien Beckers; Director Phil Coulson commissioned Noelle Walters and her team to find and protect him, while Melinda May, Bobbi Morse, and Lance Hunter go to Belgium to provide support. Unbeknownst to Coulson, this was a trap to kill S.H.I.E.L.D. agents.
S.H.I.E.L.D. learned that Calvin Zabo had become an ally of HYDRA, providing Daniel Whitehall with the Obelisk.[5]
