"Icarus was the boy who flew too close to the sun with fake wings."
―Turk Barrett to Zip[src]

Icarus is a fictional character based on Ikaris created by Sprite during their time living in Ancient Greece. As a result of Sprite introducing her story to the people of Athens, Icarus was adopted into Greek legend and mythology as a boy with wings who flew too close to the sun.

In 2024, Kingo portrayed Icarus for the film Legend of Icarus.

History[]

Ancient Greek Mythology[]

"Ikaris? The boy who flew too close to the sun?"
"Sprite came up with that tale when we were in Athens."
―Dane Whitman and Sersi[src]

The Eternals eventually relocated to Athens, Greece to continue fighting the Deviants. During this period, Sprite created a story about Icarus, a fictionalized version of Ikaris who had wings and died after flying too close to the Sun. As a result of Sprite sharing her story to the citizens of Athens, Ikaris, as Icarus, became one of Ancient Greece's historical legends and was incorporated into their mythology.[1]

"I'm playing you!"
―Kingo to Ikaris[src]

Throughout the years, the Eternal Kingo starred in several Bollywood films. Eventually, he decided to make a movie about his fellow Eternal and long-time friend Ikaris, casting himself as "Icarus." Being unable to fly himself, Kingo utilized wires to lift himself of the ground in order to recreate Ikaris's flying ability. Kingo was filming a dance sequence involving himself for the film when the real Ikaris, along with Sersi and Sprite, arrived to inform him about the death of Ajak and the return of the Deviants.[1]

Trivia[]

  • In Marvel Comics, Icarus was actually the son of Ikaris and a human woman. Having been born without powers, he was gifted a pair of mechanical wings by Phastos and Makkari, with his father promising to teach him in their usage. However, his father was away for a long time fighting the Deviants, and growing impatient, Icarus took to the skies with his wings in order to find his father. Due to his inexperience, he lost consciousness and suffocated due to the lack of oxygen. His father found his body and gave him a proper burial, vowing to take his son's name and keeping it alive forever through his immortal status.
