"Release the Hell Spawn! All of them."
"Sire, the Hell Spawn were created solely to defend the new colony."
"Do it now! Get me 89P13 and kill everyone in the head of that dead god!"
―High Evolutionary and Vim[src]

The Hell Spawn were a race created and experimented on by the High Evolutionary, designed to defend his new colony. However, all Hell Spawn were killed during the final confrontation between the Guardians of the Galaxy and the High Evolutionary.

History[]

Creation[]

In order to create his vision of a perfect world, High Evolutionary began experimenting. In order to better defend his new colony, he experimented on a pig and a bird, among other animals, creating a new race which began to be known as Hell Spawn, which possessed numerous cybernetic enhancements and stronger physiology. As High Evolutionary started making the Star Children, he planned on keeping the Hell Spawn to act as guards to a colony he prepared to move them all to.

In 2026, as High Evolutionary led a campaign to recapture a past experiment to help finish the Star Children, Behemoth and War Pig acted as his bodyguards. When the Guardians of the Galaxy personally arrived on Counter-Earth to confront High Evolutionary, Behemoth and War Pig blocked Nebula from joining with Star-Lord and Groot, as their scans indicated that Nebula's arm was a weapon, unlike the other Guardians. Afterwards, Behemoth escorted Quill and Groot to meet with High Evolutionary, as War Pig stayed at her position outside the Lab.

Eventually when High Evolutionary decided to wipe out Counter-Earth, he stalled the two Guardians as Vim ordered War Pig to retrieve Rocket for them as Behemoth stayed with him in ArĂȘte Laboratories, with her proceeding to leave to the Bowie where the comatose Rocket was at. However, during the retrieval, War Pig was killed by Adam Warlock who sought to claim Rocket for the Sovereign to keep High Evolutionary from wiping them out.

The Hell Spawn are unleashed

During the chaos, Star-Lord and Groot were able to leave the Laboratory, and resuscitate Rocket while Nebula, Drax and Mantis were captured when trying to rescue Quill and Groot. High Evolutionary decided to use the three as leverage for Rocket, however the group decided to instead Attack ArĂȘte Laboratories, with the help of their friends on the weaponized Knowhere. Upon learning what was happening High Evolutionary demanded that the Hell Spawn be unleashed on the heroes despite Vim telling him that they weren't meant for that. However, High Evolutionary proceeded to activate the Hell Spawn to attack the Guardians, while Behemoth led another group to attack Knowhere.

However, during the fight all of the Hell Spawn were killed off by the Guardians of the Galaxy, with Behemoth and his group being killed by Kraglin Obfonteri and Cosmo.[1]

Characteristic Traits[]

The Hell Spawn were created to protect the High Evolutionary’s colonies, and thus its members have all undergone extensive cybernetic enhancements that turn them into monstrous-looking creatures. Due to experimentation, its members gained superhuman strength and durability, and were capable of flight and self-sustenance in space, as shown when they could fly in space to attack the Guardians of the Galaxy and infiltrate Knowhere to attack its inhabitants. They are also capable of basic human speech.

Notable Hell Spawn[]

Trivia[]

  • In the comics, the High Evolutionary also selected a group of New Men (the comics counterpart of Humanimals) warriors and trained them to defend his colony on Mount Wundagore, and later on Counter-Earth. This group of elite warriors were collectively named the Knights of Wundagore.
