The mother of Gamora was a Zehoberei who was killed along with her husband by the Chitauri during the Massacre of the Zehoberei, under Thanos' order.

Massacre of the Zehoberei[]
As Thanos, the Black Order, and his army invaded Zen-Whoberi as part of his mission to balance half of all living forms in the universe, Gamora's mother witnessed her people being murdered by the invaders. She attempted to hide in her domicile with her young daughter, Gamora, only for a Chitauri soldier to discover the two. Both of Gamora's parents were executed by the Chitauri, yet Gamora was spared by Thanos, who adopted her and made her one of his assassins.[1]
