The S.H.I.E.L.D. SUV (Sports Utility Vehicle) is a specialized heavy-duty land vehicle, commonly used as a method of transportation by S.H.I.E.L.D. agents. Common variations of the S.H.I.E.L.D. SUVs included those manufactured by Acura, Audi and Lexus. They are traditionally painted in black, some of which are emblazoned with the S.H.I.E.L.D. seal, and are equipped with sophisticated surveillance technology.
History[]
Coulson's Team[]
The SUV was used to bring Melinda May, Leo Fitz and Jemma Simmons to a destroyed Centipede Project lab in Los Angeles, California.[1]
Phil Coulson used a S.H.I.E.L.D. SUV to chase Miles Lydon. Lydon escaped him by activating a computer program that caused traffic problems.[2]
Between L.O.L.A. and the SUV, Felix Blake and Phil Coulson discussed Coulson's style of leadership and what repercussions might occur if Coulson continued to choose his team over protocol.[3]
As he was walking between the SUV and L.O.L.A., Luca Russo was killed by Melinda May for the torture he gave her and before he could attack Phil Coulson and Grant Ward.[4]
The SUV was carrying Agents May and Fitz when Sif appeared via the Bifrost Bridge. Inside the SUV, Fitz learned that Sif was an Asgardian while May greeted Sif and kept other agents from attacking her.[5]
When Phil Coulson had a meeting to discuss the possible identity of the Clairvoyant, he greeted Agents Victoria Hand, Felix Blake, Jasper Sitwell, John Garrett, and Antoine Triplett aboard the Bus between L.O.L.A. and the SUV.[6]
Phil Coulson and John Garrett discussed past missions they had together inside a S.H.I.E.L.D. SUV on their way to see if Index reject Noriko Sato was the Clairvoyant.[6]
When Melinda May was searching for Leo Fitz to shoot him with an I.C.E.R. because he discovered her secret phone line to Nick Fury, she was near the SUV when Agents Phil Coulson and Skye stopped her and held her at gunpoint.[6]
Grant Ward walked past the SUV as he did a threat assessment of Melinda May, before she decided to leave Providence.[7]
While the Bus was on auto-pilot on its way to Los Angeles, Ward entertained Skye by spray painting over the S.H.I.E.L.D. logo with black paint.[8]
A New Beginning[]
After S.H.I.E.L.D. was labelled a terrorist organization by the United States government, the logo was no longer used on the SUV.
Field agents Skye, Antoine Triplett, and Melinda May and mercenaries Idaho, Lance Hunter and Isabelle Hartley used an SUV to return from a mission that was interrupted by Carl Creel.
Later, the six used the vehicle as they infiltrated a Government Storage Warehouse. Inside the truck Skye hacked Private Tilden's computer so that they could enter. When the mission there went badly, causing Hartley to need medical attention, Idaho drove the SUV as Hunter amputated Hartley's arm. Hartley and Idaho were killed when the vehicle was flipped by Creel.[9]
Melinda May gave Lance Hunter a Mouse Hole so he could cut himself out of the flipped SUV. When Hunter escaped, he was surrounded by the United States Armed Forces.[10]
As Skye, Lance Hunter, and Melinda May parachuted down from the cloaked Bus to the Maribel del Mar in Casablanca, they passed a S.H.I.E.L.D. SUV.[11]
Chasing Phil Coulson, Skye and Alphonso Mackenzie used the SUV to search for the residence of Hank Thompson. During the ride, Skye told Mack about Project T.A.H.I.T.I. He was disgusted the Coulson might have alien blood in him; Skye looked at him, ironically. When they saw the Thompson family on the side of the road, they told him that they would handle the situation of Coulson fighting Sebastian Derik.[12]
Looking for privacy so they could have sex, Lance Hunter and Bobbi Morse went into an SUV.[13]
Lance Hunter used the SUV to help Sunil Bakshi escape from S.H.I.E.L.D. custody; Bakshi did not know that the escape was pre-planned. Hunter took him to the mansion of Octavian Bloom and was told to wait in the car until given a signal. While he was waiting, Bobbi Morse entered, having followed on the S.H.I.E.L.D. Motorcycle. The SUV was then surrounded by HYDRA operatives shooting machine guns. Hunter flipped a switch to activate the car's weapons system, killing the operatives.[14]
Beside the SUV, Lance Hunter approached Alphonso Mackenzie wanting full disclosure about whatever plans he and Bobbi Morse were conspiring. Mackenzie laid Hunter down by the vehicle after Hunter was put to sleep by Mackenzie's choke hold.[15]
Phil Coulson used the SUV to pin Calvin Zabo against a wall after Zabo became monstrous with the combined effect of adrenaline and his formula. Zabo was strong enough to move the truck, so Coulson reinforced it with an Electronic Battering Ram.[16]

The SUV also has interfacing capabilities, via interior touch-screens. They can be used, for example, to open S.H.I.E.L.D. 6-1-6's cargo doors, allowing the SUV to park inside.
Variants[]
- Acura MDX: Standard-variation Acura manufactured S.H.I.E.L.D. SUVS frequently stationed at various facilities, including the Joint Dark Energy Mission Facility.[17] Previous MDXs with no S.H.I.E.L.D. seal or matte finish were used for discreet operations.[18]
- Audi Q5: In Paris, France, Dumont and several S.H.I.E.L.D. agents utilized Audi Q5s while assisting Grant Ward in acquiring the Chitauri Neural Link from T. Vanchat. It is noted that these variants did not have a matte finish or any additional devices associated with the traditional specialization package such as bullbars installed.[1]
- Lexus GX 460: One particular variant of the Lexus GX 460 was frequently used by Phil Coulson's team, and came standard with the Bus, parked next to L.O.L.A.. It was frequently held in the cargo bay.[1] After the Bus' destruction, the SUV was parked in the cargo bay of Zephyr One.[19]
