- "There's no telling what soulless monstrosities lie within."
"They've been waiting for me. This isn't a tomb. It's a throne." - âWong and Scarlet Witch[src]
The Darkhold Castle was a structure located on top of Mount Wundagore, where the texts of the Darkhold were first transcribed. Wanda Maximoff, the prophesied Scarlet Witch, temporarily presided in this castle; until she destroyed the castle in order to destroy all copies of the Darkhold throughout the Multiverse.
History[]
Created by Chthon[]
In ancient times, Chthon, a demonic entity, constructed a temple atop Mount Wundagore. There, Chthon scribed the first Darkhold into its unholy walls. The temple, as well as serving as an origin for the Darkhold, was a throne for the prophesied Scarlet Witch, which Chthon documented in the Darkhold, complete with engravings of the figure into the temple wall. Chthon also installed the Elder Beasts, who were monstrous demon guards to protect the temple from unwanted trespassers.[1]

Journey to the Darkhold Castle[]
- "You couldnât portal us up there?"
- âScarlet Witch to Wong[src]
In 2024, Scarlet Witch and Wong arrived at the Darkhold Castle. Wong told Maximoff about the castle's origins and its connection to the Darkhold. As they walked inside, they heard noises from behind them which startled them. Maximoff used her magic to light fires into abandoned lamps allowing them to see. As Wong turned around, he became face to face with the Elder Beasts, who surrounded them. Maximoff flew on top of an altar and the Knights then knelt down.
Confused, Maximoff looked behind her to see a statue of herself in the wall and realized they were in a throne room for her. Maximoff told Wong that she was destined to rule everything but that she didn't want that and only wanted her two children. Wong asked her why she couldn't just have America Chavez take her to another universe, in which Maximoff responded that she wanted to always be able to look through the Multiverse for cures in case her children got sick. Wong told her she couldn't control everything but she disagreed and threw him out and over the ledge.[1]
Battle at the Darkhold Castle[]
Wanda Maximoff used the writings on the walls to engage dreamwalking. She managed to capture America Chavez and bring her to the castle through a portal. Maximoff then placed Chavez onto the altar and engaged in a spell, taking her powers away from her. As she did, Wong and Doctor Strange, dreamwalking in his counterpartâs corpse, defeated the Elder Beasts.
They then approached Maximoff, who attacked Strange. However, Strange who used the Souls of the Damned to get there cast them on Maximoff and he and Wong tried to contain her. Strange released Chavez from the spell as Maximoff blasted the Souls of the Damned and Wong away. Maximoff then attacked Strange only to be stopped by Chavez, who punched her through portals into a world of fire and lava. Maximoff got the upper hand and stopped her, leading Chavez to transport them to Earth-838.[1]
Destruction[]
Once she returned from Earth-838, Wanda Maximoff decided that nobody should be influenced by the Darkhold ever again, and that it was her job to destroy it. She used her telekinesis to cause the Darkhold Castle to crumble and collapse, effectively destroying every Darkhold in the Multiverse,[1] but killing her.[2]
