"He discovered that there were universes stacked on top of his own..."
The subject of this article comes from an alternate universe connecting to the main timeline of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. This universe is designated by the Marvel Cinematic Universe Wiki as the "Avengers Assassinated Universe".

"There are plenty of others. Why did you really come here?
"I need to keep this off S.H.I.E.L.D.'s radar and you seem to have some experience in that department."
―Betty Ross and Natasha Romanoff[src]

Doctor Elizabeth "Betty" Ross is a scientist and professor at Culver University who became infatuated with her colleague Bruce Banner. In 2010, long after Banner's transformation into Hulk, she became an accomplice and helped protect him from an international manhunt after Hulk. While assisting Natasha Romanoff with her investigation into the Assassination of Tony Stark, Ross witnessed Hulk's clash with the United States Army, during which he was killed under mysterious circumstances.

Helping Natasha Romanoff[]

"Your antidote didn't even make it out of the syringe. It looks to me like a tiny projectile of some kind was fired from the needle."
"You’re thinking nanotech?"
"I'm a biologist, not a ballistics expert. And I believe we're done here."

Ross gets approached by Natasha Romanoff

Walking outside the Culver University, Betty Ross was approached by Natasha Romanoff and assumed that S.H.I.E.L.D. came asking about Bruce Banner again. Ross told Romanoff that she had no idea where Banner could be, but Romanoff asked her for help with investigating Tony Stark's murder. She explained that Stark died after being injected with the Lithium Dioxide, and she needed her expertise to find clues to the true culprit. Ross wondered why of all people Romanoff would approach her, to which she replied that her investigation must be kept under S.H.I.E.L.D.'s radar, citing Ross' experience with Banner.

Inside her lab, Ross ran the tests on the Lithium Dioxide ampule Romanoff gave her and concluded that there was no trace of any lethal pathogens, which meant that Stark was not poisoned. Romanoff asked what could kill Stark then and Ross replied that the reason was not biological and the antidote did not even make it out of syringe. Ross theorized that Stark was killed by some sort of projectile that was fired from the syringe, which Romanoff assumed to be a nanotechnology, although the ballistics was not Ross' specialty.

She then told Romanoff to leave, which made her suspicious, as Romanoff noticed the Stanley's Pizza Parlor uniform lying around, although Ross said that the student probably left it there. After Romanoff received a phone call from Nick Fury, she suddenly reached to the cabinet, but Ross tried to stop her since Banner was hiding there. As Romanoff threatened Ross, Banner came out himself to prevent any further violence, before Romanoff told both of them that they need to get out as soon as possible.

Ross wintnesses the death of Hulk

While Romanoff and Banner were on their way out, the university was surrounded by the U.S. military forces, led by Thaddeus Ross. As Banner ended up transforming into the Hulk and fought the military, Ross ran up to her father, telling him to stop, but she was intercepted by Romanoff who pulled her into a safe spot. Ross told Romanoff that her father might listen to her, however, Romanoff informed her that he was not the one who started the altercation, making Ross wondered who did it. Suddenly, to everyone's shock, Hulk's body started to become swollen until he exploded, as Ross was devastated that Banner died.[2]

Personality[]

"I'll tell you the same thing I told you the last time S.H.I.E.L.D. came poking around. I haven't seen him."
"I'm not here about the green guy."
"His name is Dr. Bruce Banner."
―Betty Ross and Natasha Romanoff[src]

Ross was dedicated to Bruce Banner, willing to protect and hide him away from S.H.I.E.L.D.. However, due to her previous encounters with S.H.I.E.L.D., she had grown a distaste for the organization, as shown with her encounter with Natasha Romanoff. However, her compassion shows out to those in need of help. Able to understand Banner's situation, Ross tried to stop her father from attacking Banner, though after Banner's death, Ross' grief had grown.

Abilities[]

"You’re an expert in the tactical applications of cellular biology."
―Natasha Romanoff to Betty Ross[src]
  • Genius-Level Intellect: Ross is highly intelligent, mainly in the areas of biology and radiation. She was able to deduce the cause of what killed Tony Stark from Natasha Romanoff's injector.
  • Master Scientist: Ross is exceptionally skilled in several fields of science, being able to detect and differentiate the biological substances from what killed Stark.
