Multiverse Discovered
"He discovered that there were universes stacked on top of his own..."
The subject of this article comes from an alternate universe connecting to the main timeline of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. This universe is designated by the Marvel Cinematic Universe Wiki as "Time-Traveling Runaways".

"Now that I know about him, I'm gonna do everything in my power not to become him. And I hope that, in the future, when we meet again, that we're friends. For good."
―Alex Wilder to Chase Stein[src]

Alex Wilder was the founder and CEO of Wilder Innovators as well as a member of the Runaways. He was confronted with future versions of both Chase Stein and himself, which left him shocked by the person he had become as the future Wilder planned on eliminating the Runaways. Wilder helped Stein capture his future counterpart through time travel before being sent back to his own time to avoid too many interactions with his alternate counterpart.

Runaway[]

Stuck in the Dark Dimension[]

While apart of the Runaways, Wilder got stuck in the Dark Dimension and found himself being tortured and forced to kill his mother only to find out later it was not his mother, but a recreation. This event messed with his mind, even when he escaped.[3]

Losing a Friend[]

During the Battle at the Hostel, Wilder fought against Morgan le Fay until she was defeated by Gert Yorkes, who died. For the next three years, Wilder had moved on from the Runaways and had developed his own company: Wilder Innovators.

He also often helped Chase Stein by taking possession of the Abstract and using it when Stein asked questions relating to it. He did this due to Stein's obsession with trying to bring back Yorkes through time travel, which he had yet to create. In February 2021, Wilder went out with Karolina Dean to a party where he met her new girlfriend, Julie. He then had a singing battle where he was a part of team *NSYNC.[3]

Time Travel Experience[]

"This is literally anyone's worst nightmare, to look into the future and see that they turned out like you."
―Alex Wilder to Alex Wilder[src]

On the day of the third anniversary of Gert Yorkes' death, Wilder joined the other Runaways at the Hostel at Nico Minoru's request. There, he was surprised to learn that his alternate self, coming from the future, had attempted to kill Minoru before being stopped by a future Chase Stein. It was suggested that Wilder could be put in a quarantine spell while the Runaways figured it out, but the idea was dismissed.

Knowing that the future Wilder could come after Julie, Karolina Dean's girlfriend, Wilder accompanied the group to their place, although he was instructed to avoid interacting with his alternate counterpart. Therefore, Wilder did not watch the confrontation and was only allowed to enter after his future self jumped through time again. He then inquired about his future self, wondering if he was as ruthless as expected.

Wilder arrives at Atlas Academy

With the Runaways being alerted that the future Wilder had gone further into the past to the day before the Runaways found out about the Rite of Blood, Wilder used a time machine provided by Stein to follow him, arriving in the past Atlas Academy. Wilder and Minoru watched over their past selves from afar to make sure that the future Wilder would not harm them, expressing embarrassment when watching his past self's tribulations.

Wilder confronts his future self

Wilder and Minoru then spotted the future Wilder and chased him, quickly followed by the other Runaways. They saw the future Wilder getting onto a bus, and Wilder was instructed to remain behind while the others were successful in capturing his future counterpart. Despite Stein's warnings, Wilder confronted his alternate self, expressing disgust to what he had become, although the future Wilder countered by stating he was only being pragmatic.

Wilder returns into his own time

Due to the situation escalating and becoming tenser, Wilder was requested by Stein to return into his own time to avoid too many complex interactions between the timelines. Wilder agreed and jumped back into his own time after sharing a hug with Stein and promising that he would do everything to avoid becoming like the future Wilder he had seen. Later, Wilder was presumably erased from existence when the Runaways were able to alter the timeline by saving Gert Yorkes in a recreation of the Battle at the Hostel.[3]

Personality[]

"I'm a hugger."
―Alex Wilder to Chase Stein[src]

Unlike the future counterpart he got to interact with, Wilder was a friendly and lively young man. He displayed genuine care for his friends, expressing understanding regarding Nico Minoru's decision to leave, and, while at the head of Wilder Innovators, was not disturbed by the fact that his life would come under scrutiny that came with success.

Wilder expressed considerable disgust towards his future self, considering him to be just a cold-blooded killer, and he promised Chase Stein that he would do whatever it took to not become like this version of Wilder.
