Shinichi Donami (堂波 真一, Dōnami Shin'ichi) was the main antagonist of Kamen Rider Black Sun. He was the former Prime Minister of Japan and grandson of Michinosuke Donami.
History[]
In 1972, Shinichi was kidnapped by the Gorgom movement to put pressure on his grandfather. Eventually, the negotiation still ended in the favour of Michinosuke, prompting Gorgom to steal the Creation King and hide it in a jungle. Around this time, Shinichi would learn of Yukari Shinjo's plot to kill the Creation King and reported it back to the higher-ups. As a consequence, Yukari was killed and what remained of the Gorgom movement was absorbed into the government, acting as the precursor for the Gorgom Party.
At some point, Shinichi became the Prime Minister and took over the Gorgom Party, using the Creation King's extracts to create more Kaijins and Heat Heaven. After seeing that the Kaijin lord's potency was diminishing, Shinichi ordered the High Priests to search for the one half of the Kingstone, so that there could be a new Creation King. Previously, he had tracked down Oliver Johnson and retrieved the other half, an act which ended in the latter's death.
After some struggle, the High Priests were able to get their hands on both halves of the Kingstone, but they were still unable to find a new Creation King. At the same time, Kotaro Minami and Nobuhiko Akizuki mounted an attack on the Gorgom Party's headquarters, with the former managing to apparently kill the then-current Creation King. Shinichi led his men to the aftermath of the attack and subdued Nobuhiko. He revealed the truth behind the Creation King to the latter, and even said that Yukari Shinjo was all but a government spy working for his grandfather from the start, to make Nobuhiko fall deeper into despair.
Unbeknownst to him, Aoi Izumi had managed to uncover the true story behind the research on the Creation King and Kaijins. The girl revealed to the world the Donamis' machinations using a web conference. Exasperated at this turn of events, Shinichi sent a hit squad to kill Aoi, but they were massacred by Bilgenia, whom Shinichi himself had mistreated earlier. The video call went on undisturbed, and Shinichi faced a grilling from the other politicians for his actions as a result.
Seeing that Shinichi's affair had brought too much unwanted attention, his subordinate Isao Nimura arranged for him to go into a dark alley, where he met his end at the hands of Nick by decapitation. Isao would later become the Prime Minister in his place.
Personality[]
In youth, Shinichi appeared to be a spoiled young man who did not bother to hide his low opinion on Kaijins, casually sharing such sentiments with his girlfriend. Even as he was kidnapped by the Gorgom movement, he maintained his condescending attitude towards their race, which resulted in his frequent beatings and humiliation by Nobuhiko. Also being something of an opportunist, he snitched Yukari's plan to the higher-ups of Gorgom, so that he could be free from their clutches as soon as possible.
Growing up and becoming the Prime Minister, Shinichi was little different from his grandfather before him, being an avaricious, cruel and bigoted politician who would stop at nothing to enrich himself at the expense of others. The abhorrence he had for the Kaijin race only became more pronounced, as he viewed them as little more than animals serving no purpose whatsoever, other than to fill his own pockets. This prejudicial attitude was exemplified when he desecrated a Kaijin memorial by urinating on it, all the while being inside a pro-Kaijin district.
His sociopathy, however, did not stop at the Kaijins alone, as it also extended to the humans whom he deemed "undesirables" (namely the poor, homeless, LGBTQ+, etc). In fact, Shinichi's greed motivated him to either turn such humans into Kaijins to be sold for auction, or to kill them off as ingredients for Heat Heaven. Additionally, when faced with the prospect of being exposed, Shinichi spared no time ordering a kill squad to assassinate a young girl so that he might protect his position within the government.
He was shown to hold grudges, as seen by how he viewed and treated Nobuhiko, who was involved in his kidnapping half a century prior. Shinichi was determined to break his old captor's spirit while subjecting him to physical torture, even saying to his face that his old flame Yukari Shinjo was only a government spy to drive his foe into despair.
Shinichi's cutthroat politics and overt avarice ultimately proved to be his own undoing, as when the truth behind his machinations did become public knowledge, he was arranged to be disposed of by his very own subordinate for all the bad press caused by his very wrongdoings.
