The Vapid Caracara is a 6x6 weaponized off-road pickup featured in Grand Theft Auto Online as part of the continuation of the Southern San Andreas Super Sport Series update, released on April 3rd, 2018, during the Target Assault Week event.[2]
Influence[]
Grand Theft Auto Online[]
The Caracara 4x4 draws heavy inspiration from the thirteenth-generation 2014–2018 Ford F-150 (P552), particularly the Hennessey VelociRaptor 6X6, a 6x6 alternative. The grille is specifically based on the Lariat trim models of the F-150, but with only a single bar in the middle, which mirrors the Shelby F-150. The front bumper appears to be influenced by the VWerks Predator Package for the F-150. The positioning of the exhausts resembles that of the first-generation Raptor, while the shape of the Caracara 4x4's headlights is reminiscent of the facelifted twelfth generation Ford F-Series, but with the same size and placement as the 2014–2021 Toyota Tundra. Additionally, the recess above the hood, housing the LEDs, bears a resemblance to the vent above the Tundra's grille. The tail lights bear a resemblance to those found on the second-generation Nissan Titan. The hood design takes inspiration from the Ram Pickup models and the Ram Rebel TRX concept.
The vehicle is equipped with a machine gun turret resembling the DShK 12.7mm (.50 caliber) machine gun, with an optical sight resembling the characteristic anti-aircraft sight of the real-life weapon.
Design[]
Grand Theft Auto Online[]
The truck features a long body and a bulky profile, where the front end is largely dominated by an off-road bumper, consisting of tubular frames on the borders, vented sections on the center and triangle-shaped outer edge panels, along with a sump guard protecting the front axle. The upper area is mostly occupied by the mesh grille on the center with seven horizontal separations over it, the middle one being wider and bearing the manufacturer emblem on the center. The outer edges feature a set of dual rectangular headlights placed within C-shaped light units, while the area above the grille features modern light strips acting as the high-beam lights. The hood features a scoop/intake on the center and vented sections beside it.
On the sides, large black plastic fender arches are seen over the wheels, as well as black side steps similar to the "Slat Skirt" options seen in the Riata and the Kamacho. The cabin area makes use of black trims around the windshield and side windows, along with body-colored mirror shells and black door handles. The front door windows have small extensions on the lower front corners, intended to improve visibility towards the ground.
The rear of the truck features a long truck bed with plastic trim on the upper borders. The tail lights are a stretched version of the Riata's, and the tailgate shares the same detail as the aforementioned vehicle, only with a smaller handle and different upper border. A plastic bumper with a license plate on the center can be seen below. Similar to the Technical and its variants, the Caracara is equipped with a turret, which is mounted on a steel platform placed on the truck bed. The interior uses the same interior textures and dials as the Cavalcade and many other SUVs.
The vehicle's primary color affects most of the bodywork, while the secondary color is applied to the grille elements and the vehicle's springs. The wheels appear to be an off-road derivative of the "Rally Master" tuner wheels, wrapped in high-profile tires with knobby treads.
Similar to the Technical, the Technical Aqua and the Technical Custom, the vehicle is equipped with the same machine gun turret that resembles a DShK 12.7mm (.50 caliber) machine gun, but can be replaced with a six-barreled 7.62mm Minigun resembling a GAU-17/A gatling gun.

Performance[]
Grand Theft Auto Online[]
Vehicle[]
Overall, the vehicle handles, as expected from an off-road truck, best off-road, although it is very prone to being flung with the tiniest of bumps and collisions, and has a tendency to flip onto its side, more so than the Dubsta 6x6. Its road performance is not overwhelming and certainly does not keep up with other turreted vehicles.
Durability-wise, the truck is generally resistant as an off-road truck thanks to its mass and relatively good speed, but is a poor choice on combat, as it is more of an improvised fighting vehicle. It can be destroyed in a single explosion and has no bullet-resistant windows.
The truck is powered by what appears to be an inline-4 engine sporting 4 throttle bodies. Positioned in a front engine, all wheel drive configuration, this is coupled up to a 5-speed gearbox powering all six wheels. The engine sound is shared with several SUVs in the game, including the Dubsta and the Dubsta 6x6.
The Caracara's statistical stock top speed is 93 mph / 149.7 km/h.
- EMS Engine Upgrade 1 produces 94 mph / 151.3 km/h.
- EMS Engine Upgrade 2 produces 95 mph / 152.9 km/h.
- EMS Engine Upgrade 3 produces 96 mph / 154.5 km/h.
- EMS Engine Upgrade 4 produces 97 mph / 156.1 km/h.
The Caracara has all four advanced flags enabled[3]:
- The first causes up-shifting to occur much sooner, and at lower engine revolutions, effectively shortening shift rates.
- The second causes the vehicle's engine to heavily over-rev and remain at the engine red-line for a much longer period of time before shifting, causing revolutions to fluctuate.
- The third increases the vehicle's suspension "springiness", causing it to bounce excessively while driving.
Weaponry[]
Similar to the Technical and its variants, the vehicle has access to a turret that provides a 360-degree coverage and an elevation range of between -15 and 45 degrees, providing impeccable defense against helicopters and pursuing cars. However, the gunner is almost completely exposed, as it has no defensive parts. Also, because of the limited accessibility and space within the vehicle, the gunner is forced to stay in the turret, and killing them renders the vehicle defenseless against larger threats.
- Machine Gun: The first option by default is the same machine gun from the Technical and its variants, sharing the same damage of 200, the same fire rate of 333 rounds per minute and the same maximum range of 500 meters/1,640 feet.
- Minigun: The second option is a rapid-fire 7.62mm Minigun, which behaves the same as any mounted minigun present on other vehicles such as the Valkyrie and the Turreted Limo. The Minigun suffers from a significant loss in damage output; whilst it gains a higher fire rate (1200 RPM, almost four times the stock Machine Gun's 333 RPM), it experiences an extreme drop in individual projectile damage (30, compared to the stock 200). As a result, the Minigun option offers only roughly 55% of the DPS (damage per second) that the stock Machine Gun dishes out. Despite this, the Minigun is able to destroy vehicles instantly upon being damaged enough, while the Machine Gun can only set them aflame and requires additional rounds to finally destroy it.
It should be noted that because of the vehicle's poor durability, the player should avoid using the gun to explode targets close to the vehicle, as a single explosion will reduce the health to a critical level, if not instantly destroying the vehicle.

The Caracara 4x4 is the shorter and unarmed variant of the Caracara heavily inspired by the Ford F-150. |
Prominent Appearances in Gameplay[]
Grand Theft Auto Online[]
- Appears in the "One Armed Bandits" Casino Work, where two are used by the Madrazo Cartel to patrol the docks. They cannot be driven.
- A couple may also appear in Casino - Strong Arm Tactics, driven by Duggan's goons. They can be stolen and used for the final vehicle escort portion of the mission if there are enough players, as the mounted machine gun provides the team with considerable extra firepower.
- Appears in the Operation Paper Trail mission "ULP - Asset Seizure", used as a road obstacle with a Duggan member on the turret.
- May appear on the Last Dose missions "This is an Intervention" and "Friedmind" (Hard difficulty only).
Location[]
Grand Theft Auto Online[]
- Can be purchased from Warstock Cache & Carry for $1,775,000.
Radio Stations[]
- In Grand Theft Auto Online, the default radio stations are grouped by genre. The Caracara uses the "Rock" group which can play:
- Los Santos Rock Radio
- Radio Mirror Park
- Kult FM (Enhanced Editions only)
- Vinewood Boulevard Radio (May not play due to a three station limit within the group)
Trivia[]
General[]
- The name "Caracara" is a reference to the Ford Raptor, as caracaras are raptor birds.
Grand Theft Auto Online[]
- Game files suggest there was going to be an emergency variant of the Caracara, the variable name
POLCARACARA
, likely a law enforcement or police-modified vehicle, but was later cut from the game. - Similar to the Dubsta 6x6, the rearmost axle does not have a driveshaft connecting it with the rest of the system.
- Although the Caracara can be owned as a personal vehicle, it cannot be used in Target Assault Races, despite having the option to enable custom vehicles.
- Despite being weaponized, it can still be used in off-road races with custom vehicles.
- With the release of the The Diamond Casino Heist update, the vehicle cannot be selected for non-Target Assault races anymore.
- The personal vehicle icon is different from the actual icon that's seen on the map for other players, using the ‘dangerous vehicle’ icon present on the Insurgent and Technical instead.[1]
Oversights[]
Grand Theft Auto Online[]
- The Caracara does not have the drive-in cutscene when taken to Los Santos Customs in GTA Online.[4][5]
- If the player uses hacks to spawn the vehicle in story mode, it becomes apparent that the vehicle has no difficulty entering Los Santos Customs.[6]
- The second/middle axle does not follow the correct suspension travel and instead remains aligned with the third/rearmost one, as if it is considered part of a single component. This is most evident on steep inclines or driving towards a ledge in a way where the rearmost wheels are floating. This issue is not present on the Dubsta 6x6 or the Bruiser.
- If the player looks behind while having the minigun option installed and when not aiming, the character will reset back to their original position and won't turn around. This often results in their hands being distorted, and their bodies crouching in a weird manner or clipping with the minigun.
- The minigun also lacks a HUD icon when "selecting" it the same way as a drive-by weapon.
- Since The Criminal Enterprise update, the Caracara can no longer be modified in the Avenger. Furthermore, attempting to enter the Mobile Operations Center with it results in an infinite loading screen.
- In addition, liveries are not available in the Arena Workshop, although weapon options are still available.
- This was later fixed, although livery options at the Arena Workshop are still unavailable.
