I couldn't finish 'em. Looks like this's gonna get complicated.
I couldn't miss the chance to practice my drawing!
The Second Coil of Bahamut - Turn 2, also known as The Outer Coil, or Turn 7 or T7 among players, is a Raid turn in Final Fantasy XIV, and the second turn of the Second Coil of Bahamut. In this turn, players face off against Melusine.
Story[]
After battling your way through to the base of the colossal fragment that impales the ground in Alder Springs, your party enters the structure through an opening in its outer shell. The sight that greets you is of an endless procession of azure-lit passages, within which can be glimpsed the grotesque silhouettes of chimerical monstrosities.
Objectives[]
- Destroy the maintenance module: 0/4
- Defeat Melusine: 0/1
Progression[]
The Outer Coil[]
Bioweapon Storage[]
Throughout the fight, she will use Cursed Voice, which affects three random party members (always one tank, one DPS and one healer) and will release a cone-shaped petrifying voice from the victims. Those hit will be petrified for ten seconds. If Melusine (or any other lamia) are hit by this, they will receive a cumulative damage boost instead. It is important to not let players or lamia to be hit by these voices. Melusine uses Fireball throughout the fight and always targets ranged DPS with them, it is important for the ranged DPS to not stack with other players when Fireballs are being used.
During the battle, cyclops known as Renauds will appear. These need to be herded by a kiter near the edge kept petrified with Cursed Voice. The reason for this is because Melusine will periodically use a move called Cursed Shriek: those affected will release a full area petrification if the Renauds aren't used as a buffer by standing behind them. Note that players need to be outside the Renaud's hitbox for it to properly blocked. Since up to four Renauds can be on the field at a time, it is best to keep them as statuary on the opposite side from where Melusine is tanked. Renauds will respawn if they are slain.
At 80% health, Melusine begins using Cursed Shriek and knife-wielding Lamia Deathdancers will start showing up. The lesser lamiae should be eliminated quickly. Once Melusine reaches 65% health, four bow-equipped Lamia Fatedealers appear stationary in the cardinal directions on the platform. Melee fighters need to be careful with the one near the Renauds due to risk of petrification. In addition, one of the circles in the area glows and deals damage over time to any player standing on it. After a while, the circle explodes and deals damage on any player standing on it. Circle Blade is replaced with Red Lotus Blade.
Once Melusine's health lowers to 35%, a Lamia Prosector shows up. This lamia uses Petrifaction, and players need to look away or they will be petrified. Depending on party composition, it may be best to save Limit Break for her rather than Melusine. Once the Prosecuter is slain, Melusine will absorb her lifeforce and gain the ability to use Petrifaction herself. In addition, she starts using Venomous Tail, which should be treated by healers.
If the battle takes longer than 11 minutes, Melusine begins to spam Hysteric Smash, instantly killing players one by one until the entire party has been defeated.
Bioweapon Storage (Savage)[]
Despite being added prior to the addition of The Final Coil of Bahamut, the Savage mode of The Second Coil of Bahamut - Turn 2 is still considered to be the most difficult battle in 2.x.
The key difference throughout the fight is that two Renauds spawn at once instead of one. The Renaud's attack is an instant kill, so the kiter must stay at a distance. Another difference is that the Renauds cannot be petrified a second time and must be disposed of after use. Getting hit by Petrifying Voice or Shriek results in a 20 second Stone Curse that works exactly like Petrification, but any direct damage taken results in instant death.
At 80% health, Lamia Deathdancers spawn and Melusine begins using Cursed Shriek along with Venomous Tail and Petrifaction, the fight otherwise works the same way as normal. At 65% health, Lamia Fatedealers spawn, Cursed Voice now hits four targets (1 tank, 1 DPS and both healers) and Venomous Tail applies the debuff on two random players. The damage from the circle exploding is enough to one-shot a player. Red Lotus Blade still replaces Circle Blade.
The Lamia Prosector now spawns at 50%. Once the Prosector dies, Venomous Tail applies the debuff on four players and Cursed Shriek is used on two players, and can apply on the offtank. Melusine must now be tanked on the center and the Renauds petrified on opposite sides of the arena, so both Shrieks can be blocked.
Just like the normal mode, the enrage timer is set to 11 minutes.

Etymology[]
Melusine is a female spirit that inhabits or watches over water. Similar to a siren or mermaid, Melusine generally possesses one or more serpent or fish tails and a woman's torso and head. Sometimes she also has wings. Several noble houses took great pride in claiming to be descended from Melusine, notably the Plantagenet Dynasty of England.
