Giovanni "John" Zatara is a powerful magician who is reputed to by a descendant of Leonardo da Vinci himself who started his career - as well as fighting crime - around World War II. He is most notable for being the father of Zatanna Zatara, a prominent member of the magical community and the Justice League.
