“Do you not know me, human? Often before we have fought and you defeated me. But today I have raised an army. An army of little brothers and they long to meet with you. Do you not know me? I am Grodd.”
— Gorilla Grodd to the Flash (Wally West) – The Flash Vol. 2 #45 (December, 1990)
Grodd was originally an ordinary gorilla before he and his troop were exposed to radiation from a meteorite. This enhanced he and his fellow gorillas' intelligence to the point of sapience, as well as granting Grodd and his troop's leader, Solovar, psychic powers. As a result, the gorillas ended up building a highly advanced civilization, kept secret from the rest of humanity. While the gorillas were content with living their lives in secret, Grodd possessed a vehement hatred for humanity and decided to conquer the world while also aspiring to take control of Gorilla City, Solovar being a stark opponent of Grodd's wrath-filled prejudice. Grodd would end up up becoming an arch-nemesis of Barry Allen, the second Flash.
Gorilla Grodd is a boss & unlockable playable character in this crossover between Lego Batman (hence the title) and Lego Marvel. He leads an incarnation of the Secret Society of Super-Villains in an attack on S.T.A.R. Labs. After they are defeated by the Justice League, the Society are broken by out of prison by Hydra forces along with the Sinister Six. The Society then join Hydra's agenda of taking over the world, but are eventually all defeated by the combined efforts of the League, the Avengers, Robin Tim Drake, Spider-Man, Wolverine, the Thing, Deadpool, and a team of other supervillains led by Lex Luthor. Grodd is unlocked after the level he first appears in (Laboratories for Monkeys) is complete.
