Harumi recounts her history from her parents' death in the Great Devourer's rampage to her own apparent demise. However, after the building she was standing on top of collapsed, Harumi found herself in a strange void being addressed by a formless being who introduced himself as the Crystal King. He offers Harumi the chance to serve him, and after some hesitation Harumi agrees rather than face being consigned to the Departed Realm. The Crystal King thus restores Harumi to life, and a crystal containing his essence enables her to dig her way out of the collapsed building.
On the Crystal King's orders, Harumi brought the crystal to the Oni Temple and planted in within the altar, causing crystals to spread throughout the temple. One such crystal showed the Crystal King now in a demonic, four-armed form, and Harumi was able to recognized him as the Overlord. In response to her protests that he would bring about destruction, the Crystal King claimed that destruction was the result of the ongoing conflict between light and darkness. His goal was to destroy the balance and bring about the domination of darkness; with this promise of so-called peace, Harumi agreed once again to serve him.
The Crystal King's next task for Harumi was to "build [him] an army"; more specifically, one made out of Vengestone. To that end, she brokered a business deal with King Vangelis of Shintaro. During a visit to him at his palace, she learned of the imminent arrival of the Ninja as well as Vangelis' dual identity as the Skull Sorcerer. She then observed the arrival of the Ninja from concealment. Following Vangelis' defeat, she was forced to acquire Vengestone through other channels, leading to her operations being discovered by the Ninja.
In the present, a captive Lloyd questions Harumi's plans, from why she collected the Vengestone to why she assembled the Council of the Crystal King. She then informs him of her plan to attack the Monastery of Spinjitzu and obtain the Four Golden Weapons, dismissing Lloyd's claims of their powerlessness by reminding him that he and the other Ninja have lost and regained their powers before. Lloyd then tells her that his feelings for her in the past were genuine, and that he searched for her in the rubble. Though this is true, he also uses it to steal the key to his chains from her, but his escape attempt is thwarted by Mr. F and the Vengestone negating his powers. Harumi then assures Lloyd that her plans will succeed, and that the Crystal King will rule over Ninjago.
