- Next to the girl watching Bill cut his pumpkin, is a walking refrence from the game series Half-Life, as you can see the boy wearing both Gordon Freeman's Glasses and HEV suit.
- Cricket's line, "smash pumpkins and play tricks - and I'm all outta tricks", is a parody of Roddy Piper's line as Nada in the film They Live, which was directed by John Carpenter. This film has since entered the pop culture lexicon.
- When the pumpkins take over the party guests by planting themselves in their heads is a reference to the DC Comics villain Starro. He also uses the method in taking over host's by replicating parasitic versions of himself. The episode's plot of aliens taking over might be slight reference to the DC Extended Universe 2021 film, The Suicide Squad, in which Starro appears as the main antagonist and tries to take over humanity by infecting them.
- This concept is also similar to the Symbiotes, a race of amorphous extraterrestrial parasites which appear in the Marvel Comics shared universe, the most famous of these are Venom, Carnage, Toxin and Anti-Venom. The Symbiotes envelop their hosts like costumes, creating a parasitic bond through which the host's mind can be influenced.
- Remy and Vesquez costumes are T-rexs, which in real life is a very popular costume throughout the entire year and is very big on YouTube.
