The Amazing Race 10 is the tenth season of the reality television show, The Amazing Race. It premiered on September 17, 2006 and ended on December 10, 2006 on CBS. The entire season was released on DVD on May 1, 2013.[1]
Production[]
Applications for this season were due on January 20, 2006 (one week later than the original deadline), while interviews were conducted in March and April 2006.
Filming began on May 27, 2006 and concluded on June 24, 2006. This season traveled a total of 40,000 miles (64,000 km) across thirteen countries on four continents.
The show moved to a new timeslot of Sundays at 8 pm, where it would stay for the next fourteen seasons.
Travelocity and Sprint were the official sponsors during this season and would provide the prizes awarded to first place teams on certain legs.
Twists/Changes[]
- Expanded Cast: For the first time since The Amazing Race 4, the Race featured 12 teams.
- Roadblock Limits: This season featured 13 Roadblocks, leaving for a maximum Roadblock split of 7-6.
- Surprise Elimination: The last team to arrive at a predetermined midpoint in the first leg would be immediately eliminated.
- Yield: Yields are available on certain legs of the Race.
- Money: This season saw a number of twists related to the money teams received at the start of certain legs:
- In the third leg, teams were not given money at the start of the leg and were prohibited from begging or selling items in exchange for money for the duration of the leg. Teams were only allowed to keep the money they earned in that leg's Roadblock.
- In the fourth leg, teams would receive money in the local currency instead of the standard United States dollar.
- Intersection: After a precursor was seen in The Amazing Race 6, this season formally introduced the Intersection. The remaining six teams were required to divide themselves into three groups of two in the eighth leg, performing all tasks and making decisions together until further notice.
- Superleg: Teams encountered a double-length leg in the ninth leg.
- Marked for Elimination: For this season, the penalty for a team coming in last place on a Non-Elimination Leg was changed. If that team did not arrive at the following leg's Pit Stop in first place, they would incur a 30-minute penalty.
- Rules and Penalties: The following rules and penalty were revealed on this season:
- In addition to claiming a Fast Forward on their own, a team may claim a second Fast Forward as part of an Intersected team.[2]
- A team that violates a safety provision in their clue by taking a prohibited form of transportation would incur a 30-minute penalty.
