Amazing Race: la plus grande course autour du monde! (English: Amazing Race: the biggest race around the world!) is a French reality game show based on the American series, The Amazing Race. It was produced by Shine France (A division of Shine Group which the group is now merged into Banijay) for CBS Studios International (Paramount Global Content Distribution) and in association with ABC Studios (ABC Signature), distributed by The Walt Disney Company France, and premiered on October 22, 2012, on D8 (C8). The season finale aired on December 24, 2012. Alexandre Delpérier was the host. The show features nine teams of two who are in a pre-existing personal relationship and follows the various challenges that they undertake as they race around the world to win €50,000.
Development[]
An announcement was made that on March 23, 2012, Canal+ acquired the format to make a French version of the show. Filming started on June 30, 2012, in Paris, France. From that point, the nine pairs of candidates traveled to seven countries for 24 days which averages to over 31,000 miles. They start the journey away from France to the United Arab Emirates, Thailand, Japan, the United States (The first time a foreign Amazing Race traveled there), Brazil, and South Africa.
A few things differ from this show in comparison to the American version. The show is stopped multiple times to explain the culture and life in the places they visit. Also, the teams are presented their first clue of the next leg at the Pit Stop of the latest one. They are also told of the next destination numerous times before even opening the clue. Usually, teams are released separately from airports or begin the next leg of the race at the hotels they stayed in at the Pit Stop.
Conclusion[]
Filming ended on July 23, 2012, at Stade de France, Saint-Denis where Anthony & Sonja (Cyber Friends) are crowned the winners of Amazing Race and win the grand prize of €50,000.
