The Goat with a Thousand Young is the main antagonist of Stephen King's short story Crouch End. It is a gigantic monster that resides underneath the Crouch End dimension, assimilating souls that become lost there. The monster was able to capture one of the two main protagonists, Lonnie, whom had been separated from his wife Doris.
The Goat with a Thousand Young was said to be a gigantic beast that was made up of large tentacles and "something like eyes". Along its body were the faces of souls that it had collected over the years, all of them said to be screaming in agony.
In the TV show adaption, the creature only appeared to be three giant tentacles with the ends of each tentacles acting like mouths that aggressively bit at Doris. Lonnie's head was seen inside one of the creature's mouths.
Biography[]
Short story[]
The Goat with a Thousand Young makes its debut at the end of the story, after the boy chanted in a demonic language and summoned it. After the ground rumbled, Doris was able to capture a glimpse of it's large tentacles, the screaming faces of all it's past victims, and what appeared to look like eyes. The creature was not said to have made contact with Doris.
Television adaption[]
After the boy's evil chant, Lonnie appeared and attempted to get Doris to embrace him in his arms. The ground erupted behind him, revealing the monster. The monster then wrapped the man up in one tentacle while another swallowed him whole. After doing so, the demon's tentacle mouths bit at Doris as she stared on in fear. A few moments later, one of the mouths opened up, revealed Lonnie's head crying black liquid and screaming. Doris then ran away in fear.

Trivia[]
It is heavily implied that the The Goat with a Thousand Young is Stephen King's depiction of H. P. Lovecraft's “Shub-Niggurath” character. This is because the demonic goddess shares a similar alias, that being "Black Goat of the Woods with a Thousand Young". This is supported by the other lovecraftian creatures that were referenced at the end of the story on the signs that Doris passed by.
It is heavily implied that the creature that attacked Lonnie in the bushes was the monster, or at least something/someone with a connection to it. This would mean that the monster had some form of intellect, using the voice of someone whom sounded like they were in trouble in order to lure Lonnie in and attack him.
The two Children, whom are supporting antagonists of the story, are heavily implied to be connected to the demon some how. This is supported by the boy preforming a demonic chant that caused the demon to reveal itself moments later. In the film adaption, this is supported when the two children attempted to drag her back to the demon's location when she tried to escape.
