Biography[]
Past[]
Tarkus and his partner Bruford were knights who lived during the 16th century and served the young queen Mary Stuart of Scotland. Due to Mary being considered a legitimate heir to the throne, the English Queen Elizabeth I accused Mary of the death of her second husband Henry Stuart. This led to a revolt among the nobles which Tarkus and Bruford fended off despite their faction being greatly disadvantage. Eventually, when the knights learned that Mary is in her custody, Elizabeth offered to free her in return that two men surrender and be executed as enemies of the crown. When they are about to be executed, they discover that Mary was already executed. The two knights died spewing bitter hatred for both Elizabeth and the world, legends speaking that Tarkus's neck became rigid in rage that numerous axes broke before he was finally beheaded.
JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Phantom Blood[]
Three centuries later, Dio Brando resurrects the two knights as his zombie enforcers. While Bruford was given Dio's blessing to face Jonathan Joestar in combat, Tarkus stood by until the duel ended as he smashed Bruford's armor in disgust of his failure. Despite Baron Zepelli's opinion on zombies, he and the others realize that Tarkus is too durability and strong to be ignored following an attempted escape on a hang glider created from Hamon-infused leaves.
But Jonathan ended up in Tarkus's favorite training hall, the Lair of the Two-Headed Dragon, forced into a Chain Neck Deathmatch while Zepelli and Speedwagon attempt to find a way in. Poco, a boy who was with them, enter a hole in the wall, but is violently knocked by Tarkus, who doesn't want interference in their battle. Poco, even wounded, manages to push the switch to open the door of the room. Zepelli, sensing it is his fate to die there, attacks Tarkus and ends up being bifurcated. But Zepelli mustered the last of his strength to transfer his Hamon into Jonathan, who easily defeats Tarkus.
Unlike his companion Bruford, Tarkus remained as DIO's undead minion to his second death, dying unrepentant.

Trivia[]
- Tarkus' name is a homage to the Emerson, Lake & Palmer album and song of the same name.
- His theme in the anime, "Knights of Terror", also seems to be influenced by the song in terms of rhythm and progression.
