~ The Supreme Dalek taunts the Doctor in The Stolen Earth. |
The Supreme One, or Supreme Dalek, is a major antagonist in the Doctor Who episodes The Stolen Earth / Journey's End. He is a type of Supreme Dalek who commanded the New Dalek Empire, orchestrating the invasion of Earth and the Reality Bomb scheme.
History[]
The Supreme One is a Supreme Dalek who leads the Daleks during their assault on Earth where they have moved Earth into the Medusa Cascade, all while conveying information of the assault to his creator, Davros. Davros does not wish to know about the invasion of Earth, and only wants to know if the Daleks have located the Doctor, which the Supreme One has stated they haven’t located him yet. Dalek Caan, the last of the Cult of Skaro that has now developed prophetic abilities tells them the Doctor is coming, but is disregarded by the Supreme One, who brands Caan insane.
Former Prime Minister, Harriet Jones with help from the Torchwood team, Sarah Jane Smith and Martha Jones transmit a signal using the Subwave Network into outer space, allowing the Doctor and Donna to follow the signal to Earth. The Supreme One traces the signal’s origin back to Harriet, to which he sends a convey of Daleks to Harriet’s home to exterminate her.
Eventually, the Doctor and Donna, along with Rose and Captain Jack who are in the TARDIS are abducted by the Daleks and the TARDIS is taken to the Crucible with them inside. As the Supreme One orders the Doctor and his companions to leave, Donna is distracted by the sound of a loud heartbeat which she has been hearing recently. The TARDIS’ doors slam shut before Donna can leave, and despite the Doctor begging the Supreme One to open the doors, he states this is not his doing. However, he has the TARDIS dropped into the core of the Crucible to be destroyed, all while Donna is still inside. He forces the Doctor to watch the TARDIS’ destruction through a picture link. When the TARDIS vanishes into the core, the Supreme One assumes it has been destroyed and begins to gloat to the Doctor about how he is feeling watching his time machine and companion die. Unbeknownst to the Supreme One, Donna accidentally touched the Doctor’s severed arm and created a second version of the Doctor; the Meta-Crisis Doctor, who was able to reactivate the TARDIS and teleport it out of the Crucible’s core before it could be destroyed.
Back in the Crucible, Captain Jack shoots at the Supreme One in anger, but is promptly exterminated by him; although Jack quickly recovers due to his immortality and feigns death so he can be taken further into the Crucible. The Supreme One orders the Doctor and Rose to be taken to the vault of the Crucible as they are now the “playthings of Davros.”
Sarah Jane, along with Jackie Tyler and Mickey Smith arrive on the Crucible by posing as prisoners that the Daleks have taken from Earth. The three escape before the Daleks kill the prisoners using a smaller version of the Reality Bomb which rips the prisoners apart at the subatomic level. The Daleks plan to use the larger version of the Reality Bomb to destroy the Universe and then every other parallel universe in existence, leaving the Daleks as the sole living species.
Sarah Jane, Mickey and Jackie are transmitted to the Vault and taken prisoner after they threatened to destroy the Crucible using a Warp Star. Martha is later transmitted to the Vault from Earth after she threatened to destroy Earth using the Osterhagen Key which would jeopardise the Daleks’ plan of using 27 planets to power the Reality Bomb. The TARDIS then arrives in the Vault and the Meta-Crisis Doctor and Donna exit the TARDIS to attempt to assassinate Davros using a designed weapon, but both are blasted away by Davros and the weapon destroyed. The countdown of the activation of the Reality Bomb begins as Davros and the Supreme One forces the Doctor and his companions to bear witness to the destruction of reality. But, when the timer reaches zero, the Reality Bomb fails to detonate, as Donna had deactivated it; the blast from Davros awoken Time Lord knowledge in her head which she absorbed when she touched the Doctor’s severed hand. She then uses the controls to deactivate the Daleks’ weapons and make them uncontrollably spin around.
An angered Supreme One descends down to the Vault, blaming Davros for the failure. He fires a blast at everyone, but is then destroyed by Captain Jack using his new defabricator weapon. The Doctor and his companions return the missing planets back to their location, while the Meta-Crisis Doctor uses the controls to destroy the Daleks, effectively ending the New Dalek Empire for good.
