~ Bi-Plane to Immortal in the TV Series. |
Bi-Plane is a minor antagonist in the Image Comics series Invincible and its animated adaptation of the same name. He appears in Issue #7 where he battles the Immortal and proclaims that he will blow himself up and take out Denver to have his suicide be "remembered", only to be immediately thrown into space by the Immortal.
He was voiced by Ross Marquand, who also voices The Immortal, Aquarus, Kursk, and Rudy Connors in the same series.
Biography[]
Deception in the Comics[]
The evil avionics engineer Bi-Plane began his spectacular criminal career decades ago using the first version of his trademark bi-plane ultra light flying wings. Over the years Bi-Plane continually upgraded his uranium powered wings in order to carry out daring aerial crimes such as hijacking a Postal Service cargo plane, robbing a hot air balloon regatta, and attacking Air Force Two.
Bi-Plane's clashes with costumed heroes frequently ended in incarceration or injury, and as he aged Bi-Plane found he spent more time as an inmate than as a villain. A prison doctor told Bi-Plane that decades of wearing a poorly shielded uranium powered jet on his back had taken their tool - in addition to pinched nerves and a herniated disc, Bi-Plane was dying of cancer.
Bitter and vengeful, Bi-Plane escaped form a federal penitentiary in Colorado and donned his flying wings for one last act of spite against the world. Unhinged with despair, the dying Bi-Plane planned to detonate his flying machine high over Denver, showering the city with radiation.
Bi-Plane flies towards the Immortal, who laughs off Bi-Plane and believes the old man to be a ridiculous supervillain. Bi-Plane tells Immortal to take him seriously and Immortal begins to feel interested in Bi-plane's scheme. Bi-Plane explains to Immortal that he has cancer, and he will die in less than a month, as Bi-Plane wants to make his death to be memorable to the world, so he plans on blowing up Denver. Bi-Plane informs Immortal that his bombs are made of uranium and sticks out his remote control for his bombs, but Immortal immediately grabs Bi-Plane's arm that contains the remote control. Immortal throws Bi-Plane into space to prevent the supervillain from blowing up Denver, as Immortal later leaves the scene to meet the Guardians of the Globe in the base.
Bi-Plane's corpse briefly appears when Invincible flies to meet Allen the Alien in space.
Deception in the TV Series[]
Bi-Plane appears in the first episode "It's About Time" where he flies towards the Immortal high over Denver. Bi-Plane explains to Immortal that he had contracted cancer. He laces himself with uranium and prepares to blow himself up, making Denver radioactive, but Immortal immediately grabs Bi-Plane's leg and throws him into space, preventing the supervillain from blowing up Denver and killing him instantly.
Bi-Plane's corpse makes a brief cameo in "Neil Armstrong, Eat Your Heart Out" floating in the space while Invincible goes to Mars for a mission.
Personality[]
Bi-Plane appears to be an attention-seeker by wanting his suicide to be remembered with his destruction of Denver. Bi-Plane believes himself to be a unique supervillain to Immortal, mainly because he wants to blow up Denver. Due to his cancer, Bi-Plane wants to make his final moments with life to be memorable from his suicidal explosion. However, Bi-Plane's arrogance is what causes him to be defeated by the Immortal due to being unable to react in time.
Powers and Abilities[]
- Flight: Bi-Plane is able to fly due to his jetpack propeller that is scrapped from an airplane.
- Gadgetry: Bi-Plane is able to use his bombs to blow up Denver and fly from his jetpack.
