Alta Morag is a major antagonist in "The Way Back", the first episode of Blake's 7.
She was portrayed by the late Susan Field.
Biography[]
Alta Morag was a member of the Terran Federation judiciary service, working under Arbiter-General Ven Glynd. She met with Glynd and Doctor Havant after Blake was arrested following his attendance of an anti-Federation meeting and witnessing the massacre of the dissidents. She expressed the view that, if tried and executed, Blake would be seen as a hero by the people, and instead felt their best option was to discredit him and have him deported to the penal planet Cygnus Alpha. She instructed Havant to frame Blake for child abuse by implanting false memories in the minds of three children.
Morag was assigned to prosecute Blake on the fabricated charges and joined Glynd in meeting with Tel Varon, who was assigned to defend Blake and who was unaware of the conspiracy. Morag told Varon that the evidence was indisputable and he should concentrate on mitigation. Morag carried out her duties at Blake's trial, allowing herself a smirk of triumph when the justice computer declared Blake guilty, with the arbiter giving the expected sentence of deportation for life.
