Kibibi is a character from the Disney's Animal Kingdom attraction, Festival of the Lion King.
Background[]
Kibibi is an African woman part of a traveling theater troupe along with the other emcees, Kiume, Zawadi, and Nakawa. In spite of being one of the four emcees, she would occasionally take part in singing during the show. She and the other emcees became affiliated with Simba throughout the show called "Festival of the Lion King".
Development[]
The Festival of the Lion King attraction opened at the former Camp Minnie-Mickey area in 1998 featuring Kibibi and the other performers. Over the years, the show became successful for many years before Camp Mickey-Minnie closed down in 2014 to make way for Pandora: The World of Avatar, which later opened in 2017, resulting the show to be moved to Harambe Theater in Africa, still featuring Kibibi and the other emcees performing within the facility.
Appearances[]
Festival of the Lion King[]
Kibibi is one of the four emcees who hosts the show, often leading the audience in the giraffe section, next to a giraffe. In spite of serving as one of the four emcees, she would often perform on stage singing songs such as "Can You Feel the Love Tonight" throughout the show or even during the "The Lion Sleeps Tonight" sequence with Nakawa while Timon joins in the singing.
Trivia[]
- "Kibibi" means "princess" in Swahili.
- During the beginning of the show, Kibibi brings up a trivial fact that giraffes make a sheep-like bleat and are not silent animals.
- Although Nala (who appeared in the original film) herself does not appear in Festival of the Lion King, Kibibi sings the lines that Nala sings during the "Can You Feel the Love Tonight" sequence while Nakawa sings the lines that Simba sings.
