Oopsy another unpopular opinion from me *evil cackle*. [image] Firstly I must start this review by saying this book was extremely overhyped imo. Everyone raves on about how great this book is, but to be honest it was just okay for me. I once again went into this book with high expectations as I did with Prince of Thorns and once again I've been left wondering what all the hype was about. Hype is a very bad thing. Seriously like FUCK THE HYPE (it's misleading & terrible). I don't know if it's just me but everytime I read something by Mark Lawrence, I feel the book is missing something. Please don't get me wrong Mark Lawrence is a brilliant writer and very talented, I love his no bullshit style and I think Jorg is an extremely quotable character, however some things in his books just didn't add up or were left unexplained. I won't go into details because of spoilers but that ending was fucking shit. Sorry. Why wasn't anything explained? Why does Jorg always get out of ridiculous situations? Why is it so unrealistic? Honestly I have no answers to my own questions and it's bothering me. Yep I want to swallow glass and die after this book BECAUSE IT ANNOYED ME. Some random ass shit happened and everything is left unexplained so I'm really confused about everything, I also hate magic systems that don't have repercussions, it's just so unrealistic. For me this book has more cons then pros, but I did enjoy it. The story itself lacked a lot of gore and action which the first book possessed and I found the plot kinda boring, it's basically about Jorg trying to take over an empire and anyone who stands in his way will die. Sounds awesome ? Yeah I no. But it was very mellow basically this book was Jorg looking for artefacts. ZZzzzz. However I did enjoy some components of this story, Jorg is my demented hero that I love with every inch of my black heart, seriously I feel guilty for loving him so much. [image] "A Dark time comes. My time. If it offends you. Stop Me.” Back to the bad stuff, another major issue I had in this book, I feel this isn't a spoiler more a warning but this book did have an animal torture scene. Yep I got the beef about it... Hollywood say "don't shoot a puppy" for a reason. I felt offended by the torture scene it was so unnecessarily disgustingly descriptive and disturbing, I felt it went abit too far, but hey when reading grimdark you want to be shocked and disgusted I just didn't imagine that type of scene and kinda really wish I didn't read it, seriously where the fuck is the eye bleach at ? this book is very unique and definitely left a huge impression on me which wasn't very good. However it wasn't enough to stop me from reading this. I read grim dark for a reason and that's to be shocked and to be offended. So if you don't have a hardened heart this book is definitely not for you. The plot is so intriguing, I couldn't get enough. The story is very dark and when I say dark I honestly mean it, it has basically no relief definitely lacking humour and the romance is actually FUCKED UP. This book is actually kinda scary but in an awesome way. I love having goosebumps and feeling creeped out, I think Mark Lawrence does a wonderful job of weaving together interesting and compelling ideas that have you on the edge of your seat, it has the right amount of everything (except of course animal torture, I could do without). It is pretty much the bible of badassery if it was better explained but most importantly it's realistic with grey characters and Jorg defines the word 'anti-hero'. [image] The plot is extremely complex, I must admit I was really confused at times due to the POV switching back and forth from four years earlier to present. I hate first person POV, it's a peeve. I want to secretly burn all first person POV books because i hate it. I don't know how to rate or review this book because I loved and hated it at the same time so I'm just gonna say it's average. I love Mark Lawrence's writing style, I love his beautiful sentences, I love his complex characters. I'm so taken by the interesting main character Jorg Ancarth. Seriously, I can't even cope with myself when I read about him. Some of the background characters especially Sir Makin stole my heart. He is definitely a genius when it comes to writing characters. Most of the plot was interesting, a lot of parts ending up being flat for me but it was intriguing and different. [image] If you have read this book I recommend going to google and looking at the beautiful fan art, it is all so beautiful. The covers also give me heart eyes, I LOVE THEM.
I recommend this book to lovers of grimdark and anti-heroes. All you vegetarians and animal activist should stay away. Definitely will continue with this series but I'm not in a rush.

"Fuck anyone who ever doubts the purpose of daring acts of heroism"
Tyrants Throne is the last addition to the Greatcoats Series. I think it is a very average conclusion to a good series. I found myself writing down all the things I hated about this series instead of the things I loved. So prepared yourself for a ranty review, because let's be honest this novel left a salty taste in my mouth. My main issue with this series is how overhyped it is. Please everyone calm the fuck down, this review is all a matter of personal taste (a very unpopular opinion). I understand majority of people love this series & have it on their favourite shelves. This is quite honestly the reason why I purchased this series, I was so excited to start it, honestly this was one of my most anticipated 'new series of 2017'. So when I finally got around to read book one, it was 'insta meh'. I had high expectations and the book fell flat for me. Don't get me wrong I liked book two & three.. ALOT. But book four was a waste of my time. The main reason why is because it's the same shit that happened throughout the series, I know what your thinking "what is this banshee talking about?", well let me YELL it at you (in a very angry voice). I hate samey sameness, it's one of my biggest peeves, I was tired of hearing the same jokes over and over again, I was also sick of reading the same arguments over and over again, it's gets old quickly. I found the humour in book one refreshing, by book two I was like okay haha.. Book three I thought okay these jokes are becoming annoying, by book four it was INSTA RAGE, stop with the overuse of the same jokes please "oh look at the expression on Falcios face.. he has a plan" or the "oh look Falcio is about to have another speech". It BECAME LAME.. Ok we get it Castell! Falcio is an annoying main character who never shuts up! Luckily Brasti was there to break up the boringness and samey sameness of this novel, If it wasn't for him I would have tapped out at around the 30% mark. So your probably wondering why I gave this book three stars if I hated it so much. Well that ending... It was so goddamn cute, my soul has been touched and my heart broken, atleast the author got one thing right and delivered a beautiful ending.
"Because. I. Will. Not. Allow. Them. To. Forget. It"
You know for a book about war there wasn't a lot of war going on, just a circulation of the same goddamn arguments over and over again. I love war and politics but this novel felt rushed and unnecessary, I would have preferred the author adding an additional 150 pages to book three and having a conclusion in that novel, but instead he wrote a 600 page book of boringness and fillers. I refuse to even acknowledge this books existence. Because I genuinely liked book 2 and 3. So I'm extremely disappointed. THERE WAS NO BADASSERY. Which is blasphemy. I'm not even done ranting yet & I'm sorry to everyone who enjoyed this novel, but I'm salty.
This novel takes off from where book three ended, Falcio (the most annoying character in the universe) is trying to keep the peace in Tristia. The Kings heir Aline is soon to be crowned as queen and return the law to Tristia. But nothing ever goes to plan in this world and the Greatcoats are faced with a few new enemy, it seems like everyone is out to get Falcio. Obviously I understand the authors reluctance to let Falcio just live his life, but seriously how much torture does one man need to endure before he can have his peace, I feel like the author tortures his characters for fun. Don't get me wrong I live for torture in books but it gets to the point in these novels that I just started to roll my eyes. Seriously. I just don't care anymore, I kinda dislike Falcio. I was over his POV, I genuinely hate first person perspective with a passion. So annoying MC + first person perspective = terrible experience for me. I wish the author decided to make this series a multiply POV, that way I would have been less inclined to rant about this novel. Also some of the ways Castell dealt with the 'bad guys' pissed me off, I was all up for this idea "I'd rather rip out that little bitches cunt with my bare hands". I wanted savagery and got none.
But like I said earlier it wasn't all bad. There was a beautiful ending and some of the side characters are truly amazing. I loved the display of friendships throughout the series (even tho Falcio treats the people who love him like shit). A few things I loved about this novel; I love Brasti, I wish he was my friend in real life and the main character of the series, the sweetest cinnamon roll to have ever existed as a fictional character. I love Kest, another character I want to adopt and I also LOVE Darriana, SHE IS THE BEST.. But once again she got 0 page time, I was only here for her and I left feeling disappointed. But other then those things and that ending, this was not a pleasant experience. I just don't care about the story or Falcio anymore. There was a few plot reveals that I saw coming from book one, so they didn't affect me at all. Like I seriously must be a heartless bitch but i just didn't care, I had pretty much 0 feels throughout the entirety of this novel (except the last 50 pages which pulled on my heartstrings a little bit). I do however like the authors writing style but even found a few issues with that, the author uses the most overused unoriginal sentences in book history "I let out the breath I didn't even realise I was holding in".
Recommended to all fantasy fans, you will all probably enjoy it more then I did.
Ps. Mega fans please don't stab me. I'm actually a precious petal. I'm just feeling salty for wasting a week of my life on this novel....more

"Thou shalt kill."
Okay, so YA isn't my normal genre of choice for a number of reasons, the genre itself is pretty bland and most books are samey same but this book was extremely different to the normal stereotypical YA read, it would also have to be one of my favourite YA books to date, it's up there next to Illuminae. For a book about death and morbid shit I expected a lot more death, and wished the author didn't hold back while delivering the goods like there wasn't enough blood and that's because it is a YA book, so it annoyed and pained me. [image] Basically the plot is about a world with no hunger, no disease, no war, no misery. Humanity has conquered all those things, and has even conquered death. Now scythes are the only ones who can end life—and they are commanded to do so, in order to keep the size of the population under control. This is literally the blurb copy and pasted because I feel saying more will be spoilerish. But I will say it's as good as it sounds don't let the 3.5 rating put you off, I'm just a hater and had issues with it, but I feel most YA lovers and a lot of fantasy fans would adore this book, the plot raises a lot of questions but my main question, funnily enough was also asked in the book; “Only scythes can equalize that (death), but everyone knows the chance of being gleaned in this, or even the next millennium is so low as to be ignored. We are not the same beings we once were. So then, if we are no longer human, what are we?” it definitely had me thinking and it made me realise I would never like to live in a world like this. I thought it was humorous and well written and I love a good fast paced dystopian Sci-Fi. Like it took me by surprise with how good it actually was. Most YA imo have very simplistic plots, this books plot is pretty simple but there were a lot of TWISTS that made the book exciting and added complexity to the story. Most of them I never expected, so it kept me interested and I continued to read. It's funny because I actually hated the start, I'm not a fan of my Main characters being high school students, don't get me wrong i don't dislike teenagers. I am a mother so love all kids. I just hate that nearly every high school character has the same personality. There's always the snarky, full of angst, semi emo, outspoken brat female and always the I'm so cool male but in reality he is a pussy... And this book had those characters, yes they did develop into okay-ish characters but I'm just sick of these personality types, not all teenagers are like this. I'll admit I really enjoyed Rowans development at the end and think he is now a cool character but Citra stayed flat for me like I HATE HER. I also like Faraday and LOVED Curie.“I can’t believe you’re being taught by the Scythe Curie. The Grandma of Death!” “Grande Dame, not grandma.” I also didn't enjoy the insta-love, seriously it came out of no where and had no build up, so it made me want to internationally scream and headbutt something, this book in my opinion would have been better if there was no romance and the two MC's hated each other. But that's just what I wanted from the story and not everyone is bloodthirsty and gore-obsessed like me.
My favourite part; “Esme ate far too much pizza. Her mother told her pizza would be the death of her. She never imagined it might actually be true.” I would totally embrace a death by pizza.
"A black hole was the perfect place to contemplate death. There was nothing in the universe that could last forever. Not stars. Not mat

"A black hole was the perfect place to contemplate death. There was nothing in the universe that could last forever. Not stars. Not matter. Nothing.”
This book had me on the fence for either a three or four star rating, I settled for 3.5 right smack bang in the middle. Haha. I'm going keep this review short & sweet.

“It was more the prospect of getting mugged. Or harassed. Or stabbed. She’d seen a few people that definitely looked stabby.”
I picked this book up after I saw two of my favourite GR users reading it. The thing with this book is that it's a character focused plot, yes I normally like character focused plots but I just found this book to be boring and very 'meh', the plot was so boring & lacked action. I feel like this book would be better suited as a TV series rather then a book.
So basically it's about a crew onboard a long haul space craft. They are like miners who punch holes in space. The captain looks after his family so wants better jobs, he sees a job advertised to travel to a planet that is currently at war. A whole bunch of shit happens and that's basically the plot haha. So like I said I was bored, it was like days of our lives only with aliens. I've seen this book compared to Startrek.. This book is much much better then Startrek (sorry guys) Startrek is the biggest load of wank I've ever seen in my life. Startrek rant over.. The pacing of the book was far to slow for me. I will check out the other books in this series but it definitely isn't a favourite.

"and all the people seeing us fly by are like, oh my stars, look at that totally amazing ship, what genius tech patched together such a thing, and I’m like, oh, that’s me, Kizzy Shao, you can all name your babies after me – whooosh"
I did however fall head over heels with all the members aboard the wayfarer, all the characters were so special in their own way. My favourite characters were Kizzy, Jenks & Ashby. Whatever planet Kizzy is from I think I was born there aswell, she's the most relatable character I've ever come across, I swear we are twins :). Seriously I wish my love bun was a real person we would be BFFL <3
'“Well, if you’re going to live on this ship, you’re going to have to learn to speak Kizzy.”
Things I liked; ◆ I love the diversity, all characters were different. I also liked the fact that it was very realistic, all the aliens judged everyone for being different just like real life. Some aliens were so racist, but then there was Rosemary who is human and intrigued by the other races, she was so curious and respectful of everyone. Definitely not a hater haha. ◆ I love the fact that on the wayfarer they are one big happy family, it didn't matter where you came from or what race you were they were all treated equally and everyone was a part of the crew :') ◆ I absolutely adored the aspect of forbidden love; man with alien, man with AI & interspecies girl on girl relationships. ◆ I LOVED all characters I felt like I was a member of the wayfarer while reading it. ◆I LOVED KIZZY, everything about her was amazing. ◆ It was hilarious that half the crew were stoners haha. ◆ It made me laugh out loud everytime I read it, seriously the crew are so funny ! ◆ Most importantly the friendship between the characters had me feeling all warm and fuzzy ! It was definitely filled with rainbows, puppy dogs & kittens :D
Things I didn't like; ◆ Slow paced plot. ◆ Lack of action ◆ When the people robbed their ship, they let it happen.. Like common buy some fucking guns and kill those bastards. ◆ Boring Plot (like seriously where's the action at) ◆ Hardly any blood, guts and killing (like I was dying of blood thirst while reading this)
The pros out way the cons and this was a great, lighthearted read that I really enjoyed reading it was so fun ! :).
“Punch ‘em in the face! Monkeys like it, too!” “Hey. Kizzy,” Jenks said. “I ate a har - monica! These socks — match — my hat!” “Kizzy.” “A tool clattered to the ground. Kizzy’s hands clenched into fists as the music swelled to a stormy crescendo. She danced atop the shuddering ladder, her head still in the ceiling. “Socks! Match — my hat! Socks! Match — my hat! Step on — some — sweet — toast! Socks! Match — my hat!” “Kizzy!”
“Huh. Well, if this band hates the establishment that much, then I doubt they’ll care about me making up my own words. They can’t oppress me with their ‘correct lyrics.’ Fuck the system.”
Who I would recommend this to? to all fans of sci fi or anyone looking for something different & diverse with a character driven plot. Also if your anything like me and obsessed with space & the unknown you will enjoy reading this....more

I gave this book four stars because I was a tiny bit let down at the end I expected something EPIC to happen and it didn't.. Don't get me wrong the ending was amazing I guess I just expected more.. The plot is amazing 6 misfit teenagers who are all on the wrong side of the law meet by fate and go on a crazy mission. The mission kind of reminded me of the bank job only with teenagers and magic, lol. There is 5 POV's that will leave you breathless and wanting more at the end, this book is definitely character & plot driven so it ticks all the boxes *tick tick tick*

“Bravery is just a different kind of broken.”
I'm really confused and feeling pretty conflicted with this novel. Some things I loved most things I hated. There's something about Marks prose that irks me and I'm gonna put it down to him trying too hard to write beautiful and eloquent sentences. Yes you get less of it in this novel then you do with his 'Broken Empire trilogy' however for me his writing feels extremely forced, beautiful prose should be effortless. But this is just my opinion and I'm in a very small minority of disliking this authors style. His writing comes across as half arsed and choppy, I always feel confused while reading his novels and I don't enjoy them like everyone else does, I guess I'm just a massive first person perspective snob, I hate first person novels, I find it hard to connect with the story and yeah it's just not for me. So I'm gonna to say that this was another 'meh' novel for me. Mark knows how to write awesome main characters but that's all I ever love about his novels, I hate his world building and dislike pretty much everything else. I'm gonna to keep this review short and do a dot point presentation of what I liked and didn't because, I'm conflicted.
“I was more ass than assassin.”
Likes: - I loved his use of Norse Mythology, I don't know anyone who hates Vikings. - I thought Jalan was an extremely loveable character and I found him to be very realistic. If I was in a fight with a bunch of guys with swords, I'd run for the hills aswell while screaming like a little bitch. Also, What is it about liars that us girls love so much? We sit around saying how we love honest men, but as soon as a handsome, confident, arrogant, lying son of a bitch walks into a room we are all swooning. This is why we all love Jalan. - The fact that Jalan is a twin of David Beckham.. *cue drooling* - I LOVE SNORRI. I'm prepared to finish this series just because, I LOVE SNORRI. I'm only here for him. My perfect badass protective Viking dad who is tough AF. - The bromance that blossomed between my boys. - I liked the idea of the plot but found the execution poor. - I like the cameo appearance of the guys from the 'Broken Empire' series. - The humour was okay.. Like I didn't laugh out loud, but it had me smiling from ear to ear. - Umm... - That's literally it.. -🤔
Dislikes: - Everything I didn't mention in my likes list. - The writing. - The execution. - The confusing plot. - The horrible pacing. - The magic system. - The middle was so boring, I hate when characters just travel for an entire novel. - Jalans only badass moment in the whole entire novel was cut off. - First person POV (matter of personal preference)
(I'll be writing these dot points into a proper review later but for now enjoy my mindless rant)

Towards the middle of this book I worked out what was going on. It is a beautifully written story and the characters are hilarious. “Never Flinch.' A cold whisper in her ear. 'Never fear. And never, ever forget."
This is honestly the hardest book for me to rate/review. I hated it so much but loved it at the same time. So I'm still sitting on the fence about my rating, I think 2.5 stars is the fairest rating for this book, not great but not terrible. Firstly I must mention the writing, I just don't know how to feel about it, I'm leaning more towards hate. The writing itself is very flowery and descriptive, it's full of terrible metaphors and similes. So I found it extremely overwhelming and annoying, I also grew to hate the useless footnotes despite some of them being hilarious. It distracted me from the story. I understand some people love this lyrical writing style and see the beauty in it, however I'm a simpleton and saw no beauty. It honestly made me at time not want to pick the book back up. Some descriptions were so long and unnecessary, like I mean they didn't even make sense at all. So half the time I was rereading what I just read and thinking "dafuq is that shite". Example; "If her face were a puzzle, most would put it back in the box, unfinished." That quote made me want to put this book back in the box unfinished, but I didn't I forced myself to read on. Why? Well firstly because the main character is AMAZING, secondly there was a lot of badassery going on; "People often shit themselves when they die. Their muscles slack and their souls flutter free and everything else just … slips out." So considering that the cons out weighed the pros, I'm going to say that this book was extremely average for me. I loved some of the quotes and I appreciate the differentness of the novel but there was too many tropes and that writing.. *shudders*.
"Iron or glass? They'd asked. Mia clenched her jaw. Shook her head. She was neither. She was steel."
The story follows a girl named Mia, her whole family is killed and she swears revenge. Mia is sent to a school where they train killers. But there is more to Mia then meets the eye, she has a special gift she must learn to use before she becomes a killer of killers. If I were to right now look past the writing and rate the story I would give it four stars, despite containing the whole school/competition trope and having a mean girl bully like every book these days, it was interesting, the magic system is definitely unique and I'm happy with the character development. I think I should talk about Mia now (I'm really gonna gush because she's my animal spirit). Mia is incredible, seriously everyone needs to go and read this novel now, if you hate the writing just read it for Mia, she's my perfect bloodstained psycho snowflake. O'gentlefriends, trust me when I say Mia is a badass. “Cock is just another word for ‘fool.’ But you call someone a cunt, well …” The girl smiled. “You’re implying a sense of malice there. An intent. Malevolent and self-aware. Don’t think I name Consul Scaeva a cunt to gift him insult. Cunts have brains, Don Tric. Cunts have teeth. Someone calls you a cunt, you take it as a compliment. As a sign that folk believe you’re not to be lightly fucked with.” A shrug. “I think they call that irony.” Unfortuntely when I think of female characters as assassins my first thought goes to Calaena from Throne of Glass, I know what your thinking.. Why do I even consider that loser as a proper assassin? The thing is I don't. but she has stained female assassins for me forever, she's not a badass just a joke, imo. Fortunately in this novel we are given Mia, who thankfully is the complete opposite to Calaena, Mia is a blood thirsty, cigarillo smoking, smart mouthed, sassy as fuck, badass warrior assassin who actually kills people and does her job instead of farting around a castle, eating cake, complaining about period pain and staring in the mirror. Mia is everything Calaena should have been. I love her.

"At the heart of it, two kinds of people live in this world or any other: those who flee and those who fight. Your kind has many terms for the latter sort. Berserker. Killer instinct. More balls than brains."
Another thing this novel is not YA, the author even said so himself on his blog. This is an adult coming of age story, YES the MC is 16 years old but that doesn't mean this book is a YA! It talks about the nitty gritty of being a female, periods, first time sex & crushes. But that's where the YA stops. This book is warped and I can't recommend you enough to keep your young kids away. There was a part in this story that surprised me at the warpedness of it. Mia imagined stabbing someone and riding them at the same time and was turned on by this thought!!! Incredible scene but definitely O' gentlefriends not for children. It also contained torture, a lot of death, swearing & more death. Okay while we are still kinda on the subject of sex this book contains the most horrendously written sex scene my poor eyes has ever read. It was a disgrace. Worst then SJM sex scenes... In future can this author not call a penis a root?! Wtf.. I've read some pretty questionable sex scenes in my life but the one in this book tops it. I actually felt embarrassed after reading it and I have no idea why.
"I appear to have misplaced the fucks I give for what you think..."
Pretty much an okay read for me, I think most people would love this book tho. Despite it being boring as hell in the middle and having extremely over used tropes, I found myself satisfied at the conclusion.

Firstly I feel I need to clarify my rating because it honestly nearly got 4 stars. But I just couldn't get past the start, I absolutely hated it, I, nearly DNF at 10%. I was really excited to read prince of thorns it had been on my the list for ages, I can remember staring at it and thinking can't wait to read it i do not read blurbs often and didn't with this so I thought this book was about a bunch of 14 year olds running around killing trained soldiers, I also hated Jorge to begin with a 14 year old bashing grown men and giving orders how unrealistic.. Yeah right.. I got to chapter 12 and found out the warband was grown men then I actually had trouble not reading it, everytime it was picked up I devoured it, I read until I couldn't read anymore. I will admit I had a little break to finish another book, but when I picked this book up and finished it I decided I liked it and enjoyed reading it. I was pleasantly surprised by how good the part in the mountain was with the necromancers and monsters, totally loved that part so much ! I love magic and as soon as that component was added in I loved this book. I liked getting to know Jorge in his flashbacks to his childhood, I liked seeing how Jorge became a monster I thought what he went through was very fitting to the title and it was good to read, I feel like I understand him now, lol. I loved seeing how Jorge meet his warband four years ago and how they traveled around terrorizing people trying to get Jorges revenge. I did however feel confused towards the end to where this series was heading ? Like really I have no idea what it's about expect a psychopath wanting revenge. I hope to see more things in the plot next book.

I'm very impressed that this is a debut novel, the writing is fantastic and the story itself is amazing, it draws the reader in, I think this is a hate it or love it kind of book due to the main character being an anti hero (actually a psychopath teenager with so much anger) It is hard to pull off a character as complex as Jorge but this author on his first attempt got it. I'm honestly looking forward to reading the rest of this series, I'm pretty much inlove with Jorge the sicko and can't wait to see what he does next. Definitely a different fantasy read for me, I haven't read much anti hero so it was definitely a different experience for me being from an evil perspective, but I really enjoyed it. I also hated the POV I liked third person, this was first person, I like multi character POV, this was single character POV. But I got past those issues and just read the book.
MAJOR SPOILER ALERT BELOW
"Hate will keep you alive where love fails”
I've always loved the anti - hero or the villain, I find them so intriguing & different so while reading this book I felt my interest rising in Jorge and his motives, this is of course after my dilemma with the start. I like Jorge and I understand why he does the things he does (sometimes), he has had it rough and there is definitely something wrong with him, he is an actual psychopath, I LOVE HIM. I'll admit at the start I was skeptical then after the first half of the book I got over my cringing and being a sissy and started loving what he was doing & now I feel like I need more Jorge. He is smart, he is manipulative & he is badass he is also very SICK & fucked up, LOL. But I did keep thinking to myself when will someone kill this TURD, like seriously how does he get away with the shit he says and does... then I realized its because Jorge literally does whatever the fuck he wants & I enjoy that. No one can stop him haha his a slippery sucker. I kept feeling the need throughout this book to compare him to Joffrey from a game of thrones like they seriously have so much in common. I hate Joffrey don't get me wrong *cough cough* was the best thing ever, in glad he is gone. But Joffrey and Jorge do the unthinkable and are both cruel but that's all these two share. Jorge has a brain, whereas Joffrey doesn't. (Not a Joffrey gif I no.. It was needed tho) in the mountain there was that scene were Jorge ate a heart...

I enjoyed all characters even the bad ones the Kings dream witch, he intrigued me and I want to know more about this dream magic. I also liked Makin - I hate his name so much tho, it confused me at the start for a word not a name. Makin was a loyal character, I have no idea why he is loyal to Jorge who is an asshole to everyone, but he is and I liked that. I would have enjoyed reading from his POV sometimes I'll like to know what he really thinks about Jorge and his decisions.
I really loved the Nuban, he was my favorite character. It was a shame to lose him so quickly in the series I would have enjoyed seeing more of this character and once again a POV. I liked seeing Jorge swoon over Katherine who barely took notice of him. (view spoiler)[ his weakness ! I hope they get together in the next book (hide spoiler)].

There wasn't enough characters for me to love or hate. This book was mostly about Jorge and his fucked up past.
’ll tell you now. That silence almost beat me. It’s the silence that scares me. It’s the blank page on which I can write my own fears. The spirits of the dead have nothing on it. The dead one tried to show me hell, but it was a pale imitation of the horror I can paint on the darkness in a quiet moment.”
"Lucifer spoke thus. Pride took him from heaven, though he sat at God's right hand.' Her voice grew faint, the hint of a whisper. 'In the end pride is the only evil, the root of all sins.' 'Pride is all I have.”
Great solid read, not for the faint hearted, good shock value & enjoyable story.
This book was not terrible but did not hit the mark I would say it is below average.
This book is a hard one for me. Some parI give this book 2.5 stars

This book is a hard one for me. Some parts I loved some parts I hated. The start of this book had me interested, the middle part I hated it was just the same as every other YA fantasy, I felt the ideas had been reused so many times I have to say YA fantasy is not my favourite genre in my opinion they are all just rip offs of what is popular atm. But there was so much hype around this book I had to read it for myself. I did however like the last four chapters I loved the betrayal and didn't see it coming. I will probably read the other books just when I'm waiting for my other books to come but I'm definitely not rushing out to get the next edition. Who would I recommend this to ? Teenagers who like divergent and hunger games. Who I would not recommend this to people who like a challenging exciting read with fresh new ideas haha if you are like me and enjoy something different you will be very disappointed ....more
